Mine was the 3-part Beginnings saga and the 3-part Chaos Emerald saga. I also liked the Sonic Tonic episode cause the song rocked :)

What did you particularly like about them?

Well...I liked in the Beginnings saga how it developed their relationship with their adopted parents, and how it showed how they got their personality quirks, and how they met and learned about their powers.

And the Chaos Emerald saga had Knuckles and Athiar in it, and Dingo turning into an unstoppable monster was just EPIC. And how Robotnik didn't care if Mobius was destroyed as long as the Sonic Underground went with it...that was chilling.

The Chaos Emerald trilogy was impressive, but I think I liked Friend or Foe-the episode that introduced Knuckles. Rad Red is my favorite Sonic character, and that was the first appearance of him (as far as I know) in an English cartoon.

Yep, that was his first cartoon appearance. And SU also had the comics' Athair, and he was voiced by Sean Connery!

Yep! That's one of the coolest things about Sonic Underground: they got Sean Connery to provide a voice. It's just incredible to think that the same guy reading the lines of that glasses wearing Echidna played James Bond and Allan Quartermain, not to mention who knows how many other roles.

I was rather fond of the Beginnings series of episodes myself.

We're introduced to the three protagonists, each one with their own personality. Sonic was the calm, cool-headed one, Sonia the spoiled rich girl, and Manic, a former thief who still occasionally succumbed to his kleptomania. The three came together after finding out they were siblings, and became the most famous rebellions of the series.

You know, a lot of Sonic Underground was cool. Sure, it was cheezy as heck, most of the characters were unforgivably hideous, and Knuckles' voice sounded way too high in my opinion, but other than that it was good. Sadly, just like SatAM, it got cancelled before the whole thing could have been resolved. A pity...I was hoping to see a little more romance between Sonia and Knuckles.

The Sonic Underground siblings and Knuckles were my favorite characters, with Aleen and Athair as close seconds. Beginnings was a cool story arc: it gave an explanation of the differing behaviors of the group, how they ended up together in the Freedom Fighters, where they learned to use their powers, and a number of other cool bits. Still, it would have been nice to see at least one more multi-part episode that brought the series to a decent end.

Of course, my favorite part of Sonic Underground was Robotnik's most often repeated line: "I hate that HEDGEHOG!"

SU was no more cheesier than SatAM.

I liked that when they did the "Robotnik hosts a race to trap Sonic" plot, Sonic realized it was a trap and didn't participate, which is a lot more than can be said for his SatAM counterpart.

Exactly; all cartoons-and some live action shows-back in those days were cheezy.

Yeah, the whole "Sonic takes part in a race" storyline has been used in virtually every continuity I can think of, and the race gets dumber every time. Sonic X...*shudder*

Another of my favorite episodes I believe was called "Mummy Dearest"-it's the one where they set out to find the scroll of their ancestor Aman-Rapi, who predicted Robotnik's takeover and wrote a blueprint for defeating him down. Seeing Aman-Rapi act so much like Sonic-and looking like him-was priceless:

Sonic: This is cool!

Aman-Rapi: Who summons me?

Sonic (seeing that Aman-Rapi looks just like him): Way past cool!

Aman-Rapi (upon seeing that Sonic looks just like him): What a handsome lad!

Sonia: Oh yeah, they're related!

Priceless!

Mine was basically were sonia was given the choice of saving either Sonic or Manic, true, she did the cliche thing and saved both of them, but it remains a good ep.

To be fair, Unicron: SatAM Sonic did realise that the race was a trap - he entered it anyway to provide a distraction whilst Sally and the FFs ran a sabotage operation on some of Robotnik's machinery, since he knew that Robotnik'd rather watch a chance of him getting squished, nd a lot of security'd be diverted to make that happen.

Well, it's been a while since I've seen the episode in question. My memory's somewhat fuzzy.

No problem. Sonic could always've tried to think of a better plan (or, as was more usual in SatAM, convince Mary-Sue *coughdidIsaythatoutloudcough* Sally to think of one for him).

MattManic, does it matter if they stole "I hate that HEDGEHOG!"? Really, it's not stealing, since Sonic Underground and AoStH were both made by DiC, and both series featured Robotnik-although AoStH's Robotnik was a lot weirder.

You want to know what was my LEAST favorite SU episode? Virtual Danger, the series finale. They ended it horribly, even worse than the Ixis Naugus' eyes cliffhanger at the end of SatAM. Sure, with SatAM you at least get the sense that there's more to tell, and it was great as cliffhangers go.

SU, on the other hand, botches it. Robotnik was supposed to get caught in the virtual world for good, or so Sonic's buddy Cyrus (can't believe he and Knuckles are voiced by the same guy) said, which might have been a good way to end the series. What they should have done was branch that out into a multi-part episode, throwing in Knuckles, Queen Aleena, and a few other characters just to wrap things up with a big battle that ended with Robotnik's imprisonment. But did they? No, they finished with Sonic using a remote control to send three cargo ships on a kamikaze run on Robontik's fortress that didn't so much as give Robotnik a broken limb.

It's hard to believe that SU Robotnik was voiced by the same guy who voiced Grounder in AoSTH.

I have several favourite episodes of SU. They all involve Knuckles.

My reasoning for them being my favourite? They all involve Knuckles.

That shows how versatile some of these actors are.

Some of my favorite eps are probably the Beginnings saga. They give some insight into the pasts of each member of the SU, and feature a bit of character development as well; the SU learn to trust each other, and to work better as a team. They also become closer to one another as siblings.

Amen, Spiner Storm, amen.

Another of my favorite episodes is the one where Sonic and the others visit what could basically be called SU's Anti-Mobius; the world where they rule Mobius as unfeeling, pompous monarchs and where the Freedom Fighters are led by a music loving, mohawked Dr. Robotnik. The way the Sonic siblings from either universe interacted with each other was priceless, particularly this:

Manic: I'm here to put an end to your stealing.

Anti-Manic: I don't steal. I tax.

I forgot about that episode rather artist. Though I don't know weather it was nice or cheap that the anti-hedgehogs reformed at the end. Does that mean the trio can just as easily fall into darkness?

Funny that you say that; I talked about this sort of thing in the Fiona Fox thread that's going. Basically, alternate versions of Sonic characters-evil or otherwise-all have basically the same personality as their counterparts. In the case of the Sonic siblings' evil monarch selves-or the Anti Mobians-the only difference between them and the heroes is that they lack the morals that their goodly selves possess, meaning that they are willing to do things that their goodly selves wouldn't do. Take away Sonic's dedication to the side of good, and you could easily wind up with another Scourge.

Now, I'm not saying that the versions of Sonic, Manic, and Sonia from that episode were as bad as the Anti-Freedom Fighters. Really, they were just rulers who had let privelege get to their heads, hence the moral of the episode: "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" (they didn't put it in those words, but it's basically the same). Sonic and his siblings could easily wind up just like their counterparts if, once they rule Mobius, they allow power to go to their heads and start doing whatever they want. Fortunately, they've all been brought up in an environment where they've seen how bad leadership can affect those who are led, and so they're forewarned against such a thing happening.

I'd think so. It's like the whole "one decision and you'd be just like me" thing between Sonic and Scourge.

Exactly, Samanfur. That's the thing about characters who have counterparts from other dimensions: deep down, all the various versions of a being are the same. All that differentiates them are their histories and the decisions they've made. No few stories have demonstrated similarities between individuals that show you that it was one decision that made them different: Harry Potter and Voldemort/Tom Riddle, for example. Not to mention the several fiction universes where a villain tries to unnerve the hero with a speech of this kind: "You're just one bad day, one act of destruction, one fould deed away from being me."

Sonic and Scourge, and any other pairing of hero and corrupt self, could have ended up being each other were it not for something in their lives that made them into the individuals they are today. Just one decision-to disregard or stay true to morality-has influenced countless characters into becoming what they are, and the Sonic universe is no exception; really, it's a prime example.

Sonic Underground had quite a few good episodes, which is why I look forward to it coming out this winter.
