we dont talk alot in the marble garden forum do we? well let's try topics that arent so sensitive and that are more fun to reply to.

to me these are the kinds of commercials that are out there:

i can guess when a commercial is lying about its product like this obvious one
1-   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXcYVh-W14E&feature=related   i just feel sorry for the ladies in the ad putting on that loony mask on... you dont need a PHD to tell electricity on the face is harmful. so of course this is a lying commercial.
2- but there are commercials that work like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iUo_qdekwI&feature=fvw  snuggies are dumb looking but the commercial didnt lie it does keep you warm.  so we know we cant say all commercials are lies or controlling but i for one wish commercials will tell the truth, i mean i didnt stop eatting junk food even after i knew how much calories they give, no need to hide the truth it might not be that bad.

3- also there's the other form of commercials that are annoying the ones where they're just right down creepy  >____<   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZtPhvJQ7Eo&feature=related  is that really supposed to be a dog?!

4- next we have the IQ challengers, the commercials that you dont know why they make them  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIUDqE1d3T4  if anything that makes me not want to eat a burger from where it came.

5- the fun commercials that we all love like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT86iWiH2mI  either funny or with a fun jingle. some commercials deserve awards.

i think commercials are neat and i enjoy watching them as much as movies if they were that good... but not have a weird commercial pop up in the middle of a horror movie >__< one time i thoguht the commercial was part of the movie and that ruined things for me as you can understand.

Do you not have a law against false advertising there?

Personally I think the best adverts aren't the ones that say "check how brilliant this is", but the ones that engrave a brand name in your mind. They might not advertise a product at all but they do increase your awareness of a brand and make you more likely to buy one of their products.

Cadburys do this loads (**** YOU KRAFT) and they are extremely memorable

Or Hovis's 122 year anniversary that makes my hairs stand on end and ends up with me bursting into tears every time at the blitz scene. I think I can safely say this is my favourite advert ever.

I dislike adverts that talk about how great they are in any manner that isn't silly. One which works is Nicholas Cage's flirty spanish cousin. One which doesn't is Davina McCall monologuing to her mum about her hair.

Marmite are especially ingenious in that their entire advertising campaign is based on the slogan "You either love it or you hate it". Americans just don't understand how that works as an advertising campaign, but it honestly does. They are completely honest about how polarising their product is and they don't care if everyone knows. Plus, marmite is delicious o.- I once sent a jar to Hiro0015 though and he wasn't too keen.

And while I think I'm alone with this one, I find the Go Compare adverts absolutely hilarious.

no sweety and stealing  commercial ideas is very common... even this mcdonalds' commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMAx_JNMR_w   has been stolen by a popular tv show over here... you'd think they'd at least steal ideas from a less known international company -____-  so i wont talk about our commercials because i doubt they're original ideas. and i dont respect that.

anyway thanks sweety i enjoyed those commercials you added, the only reason why i didnt reply sooner was cause i was looking for that yeast extract thing. i never tried it but i asked about it and found out its very healthy so good you to like it... oh and if hiro didnt like it because of the salt there's kinds without salt, i have high blood pressure so i would go for the none salty one either

i'm sorry to say though i didnt get the compare ad.. some commercials might have had a lot of work done to make them but if half the viewers didnt get it i dont think it works... though i like how you mentioned commercials you cant forget and are your favorite.

let's see.... i remember this old cocacola commercial, the reason why i cant forget it is the cool song XD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC98bk0HSDE&feature=fvw
i also can never forget the lurpak butter commercial XD i mean who can forget that cow it always made me laugh  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiggrWgd4G0&feature=related
those are old specials of mine, but one that is very sweet and brings a huge smile is close ups commercial, the song and how cute the guy is in it is just breath taking http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOK9mRkj8Yo  bunanigans your nicholas cage commercial is also a fun eye candy.. though i'd never liked him i didnt know he had a cute ....um you know

thanks again sweety please add more if you can, you got an interesting taste in comemrcials. is there one with a song you like, like the cocacola one i liked?

but penguin ads help you know what's in the market, what's the latest thing out there, like plasma tvs, i found out about them through advertisment. and they are better (probably healthier if you think of how you can carry them) and some ads like the geico commercial veckums just placed are fun to watch just like a comedy show you'd tune in for fun. why cant you learn about some new product while having fun. to tell you a secert i sometimes flip channels just to see all the commercials XD

i love commercials as long as tv doesnt reruns them too much, then i hate the product no matter how good it is.

Geico commercials are the best, though I can't say I'm switching my car insurance anytime soon. I'll be honest I don't watch much televison, and when I do it's usually some show I have recorded on my DVR so I'm fast forwarding thorugh the ads. I do agree that ads help people realize what's out there to an extent, but I also follow the old saying, "Don't believe everything you see on TV." That especially applies to these wonder inventions that seem to be just about everywhere on the TV.

Yeah, one shouldn't be rewarding overly aggressive marketing like that anyway. Though really, advertising (at least of the large-scale variety) isn't the only way to know what's in the market; word can spread from person to person, from people who liked the product enough to those they are talking about it to. Advertising is one means of it, and happens to give the advantage to those who have more resources with which to call more attention to their product.

As for the coca-cola commercial you linked to earlier, I'd heard of the "always coca-cola" slogan before but I don't think I heard the jingle it was from until now. Now I know what this song was parodying. (I heard of that years ago, probably through Napster or something like that, but just felt reminded of it by hearing the jingle it was parodying.)
