Well, last night I was having a dream. I can't remember much of it except at the end when I woke up. At the end of my dream I was on my bed at home (I'm in college now staying on campus), then somebody, I didn't get a good look at, tickled me on my chin. I woke up in my college dorm to find nobody was around me to even touch me. However, I had a strange numbness at my chin as if somebody touched me. Weird.

I tend to prefer the idea that dreams are a way for your unconscious to sort through things which you haven't had time to process while awake, and generally in a fairly abstract fashion. In that sense, I think they can have meaning, but probably not much beyond that. As for the numbness, it could be more psychologically based, in that part of you expected to have some sensation there, or that you'd managed to cause that effect on yourself while asleep.

Still, I could be completely wrong - I just tend to be a bit of a sceptic at times

From what I remember about basic psych I remember that being the discussed answer. It's been awhile and I can't find my old book right now so I can't be sure.

Well it happened again. This time in my dream my little brother was tickling in my armpit. And when I woke up, I'll give you three guesses what was numb now.

Mmm...

Well good luck interpretting my dreams to be anything meaningful. Usually they're of the acid trip variety.

For example, I recently dreamed there was a cow in my backyard, so I tried to tip it. However, this caused several grizzly bears to appear on my flimsy chain-link fence and walk acrossed it with ease. Instead of staying inside my house, I chose to teleport to a tree to hide behind it that was about ten feet from the bears. They ripped me apart violently, and one ripped my heart out like Kano from Mortal Combat. My heart was even choppily animated and pixelated, just for the occaision. Then, I reapeared inside, and the TV sucked me in spit out my bones, which the Scarface boss enemy from Smash TV ate.

In general, dream interpretation is more something the individual who had the dream does, just potentially with some prompts from someone else to help the individual ask appropriate questions about symbolism, and recent events, and so forth. This is because, effectively, the dream is based around your mind's view on things, and so how you link ideas/symbols together, not anyone else's.

As for the physical marks or sensations on waking corresponding to dreams, it is fairly well documented that external stimuli can affect dreams, so as to provide some "explanation" of changes to your body, or similar. The physical effects could be based around something to do with how you were sleeping, or something someone did to you while you were asleep, or just be psychosomatic (made real on expectation on some mental level, rather than some other stimulus). At least, that's my understanding on how psychologists would explain dreams/other effects realting to dreaming.

ive been getting constant dreams about toilets, usually when i'm extremally worried about something, or been bottling up feelings. ^^; after discussing it with some freinds, it turns out a few of them have been getting the same kinds of dreams.

Do they mean anything? Only you can know for sure! Look at your dreams, is there a connection or a running theme? And if you're really interested, write them down after you wake up because no matter how good your memory is you WILL forget them by the end of the day.

Me, I don't think dreams are your mind trying to tell you something. After all, it only means something if you want it to. It's just some kind of hallucination that plays off the memories you've stored, in a totally non-linear fashion.

Has anyone found they had the same dream with somebody else they knew? It would be a rare thing, but it'd be interesting.

Dreams can mean whatever you want them to mean, I guess ^^; And only you'll be able to say exactly.

Though I agree with Spite as well, I think dreams are a way to process thoughts and memories from the day into some big conglomeration of thoughts, ranging from what makes you happy to what troubles you most, complete with all sorts of randomness in between. Sort of like your brain in a blender. o.o

And I do believe you can feel things in dream. ^^ Afterall, people wouldn't enjoy flying dreams so much if they couldn't feel the motion of flying, and they wouldn't be as terrified of falling dreams as much if they didn't experience the rush of air from falling. I've felt hugs in my dreams. I remember waking up once to find my foot in pain after (in-dream) I kicked over my computer chair.

Has anyone found they had the same dream with somebody else they knew? It would be a rare thing, but it'd be interesting.

I haven't had the -exact- same dream as somebody else, but I remember having a discussion with my friend about our dreams from the previous night. In hers, this ghost girl was stalking her and her family and it turned into a nightmare. In mine, I was looking for a similar ghost girl who was haunting my family and it... well, it ended better than hers ^^; Like I said, they weren't exactly the same, but similar enough to be really creepy like that. o.o

I have. When I was about 6 or 7, I had this dream where I was in bed and a big spider was right in front of my face, scared me in dream and my mom rushed in, having the same dream, it was about me in her dream too.

Oddly enough, though, I'm not afraid of spiders at all and never have been. :/

Last year I dreamed my mother's hose. It had no fence and one wall was gone. I could see my mother from the outside. I phoned my mother that morning. I said, did you have any strange dreams? I did not tell her mine. She said, I dreamed that my room had no wall. People outside could see me.

Many of my dreams are symbolic. Someone said each individual's own experiences detremine its meaning.

Then there are the one's which are real.

I hear a voice telling me what will happen. They began in October 1986 when I hear a voice say that the Mets would defeat the Red Sox by an error and would go on to win game 7 and the World series. I saw the ball pass the first baseman. That day, I told my family the dream. It was the 9th inning and Boston was winning. They just needed two outs. Then the utnhinable happened. The Sox committed errors and the Mets had hits. Then the ball passes through Bill Buckner. My dream came true. Since then, these dreams with voices have come true. The Baseball series from 1988 between Dodgers and Athletics. The results of the Mexican elections in 1994 and 2000. The invasion of Panama in 1989, Afghanistan in 2001,....George Bush, Pope John Paul II,...

But one dream has totally taken my full attention for its magnitude.

I had it on Sunday July 4, 2004.

I accompany this dark figure . He tells me something about each person in a long twisting line. The first person is the brother of michael Douclas and son of Kirk Douglas: Eric. He died of a drug overdose on July 6. Same day, the President of Austria , Klestil, died. He was number 2....

Here is the original dream as posted at ask Jesus, a now defunct place titled can faith stop death?.

Among the people I had mentioned in 2004 are Susan Buffet, Pope John Paul II, George W. Bush, Yasser Arafat, Ariel Sharon,....
You can see them in Wikipedia too in the center and bottom of article.

Here is part 6, the most extensive of them all at ez board-New ChristianityThe dream is already in its 7th installment.

About 190 peoplee from my dream have died. About 110-127 are still to come. I was told in my dream that they will di within a 3 year period. I estimate that two be at least July 4,2004-July 3, 2007.

Still on the line are these politicians: George W *Bush,Ariel Sharon (in coma now) Pervez Musharraf (Pakistan), Hosni Mubaraq (Egypt), Ross Perot, John Kerry, Queen Elizabeth, Margareth Thatcher (Britain), *Vladimir Putin (Russia), Fidel Castro, Dick Cheney, Shimon Perez (Israel), *Subcomandante Marcos (Mexico), Kim Il Sung (North Korea), Luis Echeverria (Mexico), Augusto Pinochet(Chile), Judit valles (California), *Saddam Hussein(Iraq), *Mahmoud Ahmanidejad (Iran), *Assad (Syria)...*Hugo Chavez (Venezuela) complets the line. He is the last one in the line. Those with a star I expect them to be assassinated or executed.

There are many actors and TV personalities: Clint Eastwood, Hugh Hefner, Charlton Heston, Dan Rather, Andy Rooney, Mike wallace, Roberto Gomez Bolanos,....

People in religion like Dr. Billy Graham, Rev. Pat Robertson, Rev.Robert Schuler,...

In sports like JOhn Wooden, Larry Brown,...

and my family: my mother,....

They are from many nations, most from the United States, Britain, Canada, and Mexico.

All I know is that among the last 10 are Judit Valles, Stan Chambers, ....and Hugo Chavez

Maybe the reason I remember it is because of my mother.

This dream has worn me mentally and physically.

i still keep getting dreams about toilets. i'm usually trying to find one, but can't.. or if i find it, it suddenly turns into a sink or the door falls off so i have no privacy.

darned surreal. o-o; but not as much as the occasional one of big wars or being in a house that's collapsing. what happened to the nice flying dreams i used to get? ^^;

Everybody that I have seen in real life or on TV/movies which made an impact in my life. I always hear a voice saying what will happen.

My dreams with voices go as far as October 1986, almost 20 years ago.

There are like 10 relatives, three died already, and 4 students, of which 2 died already.

I have spoken to death himself, and to his helpers and God Yahweh's messengers.. This one was a messenger from Yahweh.I was told what each person was known for. That is, even in Heaven they know when we will die.

This dream I believe came from God Yahweh himself, since many people who rule the world now will be assassinated. People like George W Bush, Saddam Hussein, Vladimir Putin, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad,Hosni Mubaraq, Musharraf, Assad, Kim Il Jong?, Hugo Chavez, ...while others will die naturally like Ariel Sharon, in coma at this moment,Fidel Castro, , Pinochet, Echeverria, Jia Zemin, Queen Elizabeth, Margareth Thatcher, Mahmoud Abbas,Dick Cheney who might be the next President, and Pope Benedict XVI.

Yet, the impact of these deaths could create a political tsunami of lasting consequences which could lead to World War III.

Maybe that is the reason God Yahweh allowed to see these many people.

So far these people have received copies of my dream:
George W. Bush, Fidel Castro of Cuba, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, Arafat (dead already) Ariel Sharon of Israel(in coma now), a current Affair (off the air now), Hu Jintao China's President, and the guy from Fareheit 9/11, Michael Moore..

Other dreams are symbolic , those are harder to interpret.

I have a couple more questions. What's he like? Death I mean. Is it even a he? A she? Neither? And would he/she/it be able to tell you when I or some of the people I love might die, or is it just "important" people?

As for my dreams...

They mostly revolve around my own stories. Most of the time, I can actually control what I dream...but sometimes, it just gets weird. And I mean REALLY weird.

I'm talking Planet of the Apes mixed with Sin City weird. >>

You dream of apes being neutered?

I liked SIN CITY. It was different, but I understood it. I actually had an actual dream about that movie once. It may have something to do with the fact that I watched it like, 25 times. I seem to do that with everything. I've done that with every Metal Gear Solid game I've ever played. Resident Evil 4 did that to me too. But I guess when you do something repetitively or play something over and over again, I guess it just kind of gets programmed into your mind, so you dream about it. That's what I think.

Good thing I checked back for this, otherwise I would of made another thread.

Just now I went to bed at 12:00, and fell asleep. What happened in between during the dream doesn't matter, really. What matters is the end. Now today, as it is 4:00 when I am typing this, my family will have our yearly vacation which this year since we have less time than usual is just a two night stay in downtown Chicago to see the sights there. In the dream we are on like a wide freeway, like 8 lanes per side or something. In the car, after I am annoying my family with impressions of a stereotypical zany radio station host (don't ask) my sister tells me to stop it for being annoying as we went up an onramp in the middle of the freeway and stopped at a (gas station?/traffic light?) in the middle of the road bridge that crosses the freeway. At that point for some reason I realize that something doesn't add up and I was having a dream (which in retrospect, I don't know why I did, maybe it was the exaggeratedly wide freeway that had traffic lights on it that seemed to be made out of CGI)

I started shouting "It's a dream! It's not real!" and tried to wake up but I couldn't. Fate didn't want me to wake up just yet. Admist my slight panic, in a blink of an eye we were transported to the street that we use to get to our garage, traveling south at night. (again, this makes sense since we almost always take this way back when we go anywhere, especially if it is coming back from Interstate 90 and then Illinois Route 31) Still trying to wake up, I punched myself in the side of the face...and I got hurt. Next, a quickly grabbed my sister's hand and scratched myself on the cheek, which hurt as well. My sister didn't like that one bit and she quickly retracted her hand and pointed her finger/nail close at my eye, like she wanted to gorge it out, but I don't remember what she said. While this was happening we drove to our house and parked in the driveway. After the garage door came up there he/it was. Perched on our other car in the garage like an animal, was a person/creature with green, crusty skin and what I believe was yellow eyes. He was thin and nimble just like me yet slightly shorter, and to look any more like a comic book supervillain, he was wearing a doctor's white coat. Likewise, he had the power to spit/shoot acid out of his mouth and had various yellow pointy teeth (alot of his teeth were missing. The acid itself was bubbly and light yellow with slight green parts.

I met him before in the same exact location earlier in my dream, but last time was more comical. He stared at me and tried to shoot acid at me, but it landed on the roof of the car he was squatting on in the garage and sure enough the acid quickly ate through the metal and he fell in. But that time the dream had a more cartoony look to everything and this time it looked exactly like real life and at night. I quickly got out of the parked driveway car with my family still inside and started throwing things off the garage wall shelf while saying "Go away go away GO AWAY!" thinking the same thing will happen again. He did use acid to corrode the car roof away, but jumped onto the garage car's hood before the roof went away entirely. Of course, I'm like thinking "Oh ****" and start running away. Not much like out of the driveway, just past my family's parked car. My driveway is tightly enclosed, so there wasn't like any other way besides the direction I ran. Actually, it was more like me using my family's car as a shield. It didn't help lol, as the person/creature I would later call Dr. Acid jumped onto the hood and roof of that car and again shoot acid out of his mouth, with my family inside. Didn't see them ever again for the rest of the dream. n_N (sorry, its like 6:20 as I am typing this, the sun's up, and what was sheer terror hours ago is funny now) He then jumped towards me and landed on the ground, and thus the battle to end all battles ensued. Dr. Acid leaped onto me knocking me to the ground. As a struggled to get him off, he spit acid onto my chest and I felt a great burning sensation there that grew in mere seconds. Quickly I used my right hand and shooed the acid off my chest (which in retrospect, wasn't a good idea either) and the pain subsided. (I forget if I had felt any pain on my right hand as well) Somehow I threw him off of me onto my right side and again struggled, this time keeping his head and mouth down. For some reason, he got some dirt and grass stuck in his mouth when I pinned his shoulders and head down on my concrete driveway. All the while, during my fight with him the sun had somehow came up (morning already?) and I could clearly see, although I could of said that before we even started fighting. We struggled like this until in the heat of trying to survive and being scared for my life, I did one final attack where I broke his neck. I could hear a large cracking sound. I was still shocked/panicked with fear after this for a few seconds, but I calmed down after I realized it was over. Out of all the people, ghosts, aliens and monsters that had scared, tortured, or chased me in my dreams, I had never fought them tooth and nail like this, let alone winning. His limp body rested in my arms, and I gently rested him on my driveway, saying "Good night sweet prince." Right after that I woke up, overheated and tightly wrapped in my bed's comforter, with a pain at exactly the very point where his acid hit my chest. Figuring I must of slept a long time, I check the clock to see if it was morning yet. Turns out it was only 2:30 AM!

I spent the next hour awake pondering what had just happened, all the details I could remember, and what it all meant. The driveway fight itself I would say lasted 30 seconds to a minute in length. After I was awake I suddenly noticed the music playing during the entire Dr. Acid part I had heard before and checked back on the internet to confirm. Indeed it was this mp3, which makes sense since I had it playing on a loop yesterday afternoon. Infact, 0:50-0:51 into the song syncs to when the garage door opens revealing Dr. Acid. I just wanted to share this dream with all of you considering I remember it really well. And the fact that I shared this wall of text with you in paragraphs.

I have dream story arcs. Recently I've been having this series of dreams about somebody stealing eliteboard. They log in with a stolen password and copy or block everything. I wake up outside an RV in a mountainous area and somebody had knocked me out with a rock to the head, then talk to people on the mofo about it and fight to get eliteboard back by hacking or legal copyright. But they have like scary thugs and agents to stop us. It's a lot more elaborate and cooler than that but I never remember a whole lot about dreams more than a few minutes after waking up. Yet when I'm asleep I do remember dreams and it's like a storyline that feels like the real world.

I have nightmares more often than anyone I know. Very graphic, gory nightmares from which I have woken up in a cold sweat from. I recently had one that I blocked out after I woke up from it.
Otherwise, my dreams tend to be bittersweet.
I hopefully they are just manifestations of my anxieties, but who knows...

The brain receives many stimuli throughout the day, far too many for the brain to process at once. This, of course, includes emotional reactions as well. These stimuli are 'prioritized' so that the important stuff is most evident to you at the time of its occurance.

The overload of emotions and feelings and smells and sights we experience in a day is stored in subconscious memory. When we sleep, the brain attempts to process all the stimuli --the sounds we didn't overtly hear and the emotions we've experienced, repressed, acted upon-- and tries to 'make sense of them.' I forget the part of the brain that fires these stimuli off at you while you sleep, I learned it in my Psych class and I don't feel like doing a search to find it right now, but I think it's like the 'Stimulus Stem' or something like that. Thus we dream.

As to whether it means anything... well, no. The paranormal theory would be that the mind is also subconsciously aware of the 'flow of reality' and is somehow in tune on a deeper level with fate and the like, and that might be able to affect our dreams in such ways as to give us premonitions, etc. Of course that's not scientifically proven.

Man you know what I hate?
When you're dreaming and the events in the dream take place over several hours, and then when you wake up and it's only a few minutes later.

It makes me feel ripped off for some reason =(

What Kaul said.

Although, I like to do experiments where one day I will do nothing to mess with creative stimuli. Work do nothing but solve problems as they arise and at home either stare at the TV or play a FPS. No thinking, writing, posting in RPs, etc.

The funny I found was if I DID that. I had VERY vivid dreams that night, the kind you even remember when you're awake. Now if I DID vent on creative outlets like messageboard stories, writing, or working on the prepwork for No More Heroes. I don't think I dream at ALL.

It almost seems like the less time we give ourselves to think creatively, the more time your subconscious spends on it while you're asleep.

Maybe, Rico, that's because when you vent, you are emptying your subconscious of anything that needs to be addressed in sleep? Just a thought.

And as to your experiments in doing absolutely nothing to stimulate your brain all day... that's a hobby of mine, also.

I find if I have nightmares I can usually relate them to something Ive been worried about during the day.I also find they reoccur over and over until I can deal with the problem so for me there is a clear link between what I dream and what happens in my 'awake world'.

I had this one dream, me and all these other people were fighting off Freddy Kreuger. I can't remember all of the details, but we were in that factory at one point, but it just ended up being underneath a school. We broke out onto the surface, and were still fighting him in the playground.

Someone went Super Saiyan and blasted Freddy away with a Kamehameha! =O

Then I woke up.

But I've had weirder dreams than that, like when Freddy came back a year later, and he was all like "DO U RLY THINK DAT A KAMEHAMEHA CAN KILL ME!?!!!one". But, he only made a cameo, and never appeared again.

I've had all types of weird dreams, like Jurassic Park, and Aliens and Predators, and other dreams which weren't based off movies and games. I had one dream earlier this year, where this crazy scientist person was injecting people and turning them into cyborgs, similar to the Mega Man X series of Reploids. It was completely awesome and was the best dream I've had, ever. I've even started up a little fiction about it, and the events and characters in the dream, including the crazy scientist person.

So, to me, dreams are the creations of a person's imagination, only limited to just that, but are visualised on a better level than just closing our eyes and picturing something, because most dreams can feel so real.
