The company I work for, just put out a new report which has been picked up by the majority of British newspapers today, regarding males aged 25-44 having early mid-life crisises, which have been dubbed as an "early life crisis".

www.guardian.co.uk/uk_new...94,00.html

I'm sort of shocked to find 1 in 7 people are suffering it.

What is it about modern living, which assumedly would make things easier for people now than a few decades back when the majority of the comforts we take for granted were less available and more expensive.

So what are your reactions, suprised or not to find this out? What do you think could be done to counter it?

Discuss.

Well, it's always been known that young men are discontent. I'd like to see a comparison of this statistic to that in the past.

I think one reason why it might exist is because of lack of direction, as the article says. "Back In The Day" there was less social mobility, so people knew exactly what they were going to do with their lives. Now, everything is fluid.. anything can do anything. Also, there aren't as fixed communities anymore. People's families don't stay in the same town for generations anymore. For better or worse, people don't know the people in their neighborhood like they used to. Schools, shops, health services and such are institutionalized. Things are more dynamic and efficient that way, but this can also lead to feelings of isolation.

Basically what Troop said already. I don't find it surprising because it's not just a "male" thing. It affects all people. Based on what I see, I think people in general are more stressed now than they used to be even when I was a kid--and it's not like I'm old at the age of 24 either. ;p
