Aha, I see. I'll look into the libertarian party.

Oh yeah, guys, Shifty locked the thread I made, which was about listing controversial things, in the forum that's meant for debating.  I think something's wrong here.  Apparently Mada's original concern of the community's failing to argue has been unveiled as actual prohibition from debate.  That's not fair.

You can make a seperate topic for each of those things you wanted to discuss, but don't make a topic about hate; especially in here (where focus may be on specific people or groups of people). ;P

I think its because you introduced it as a hate list, rather than having controversial opinions. But I'll take a moment to say that I strongly disagree with Invader Zim being a "Masterpiece". Average show that has a bunch of rabid fangirls. Its not terrible, but its nowhere near as amazing as its made out to be because it has "Random" humor.

i didnt find anything offensive about cosmos's thread but i guess the title might encourage others to post racist comments if that's why you locked it shifty. i think you put up good points i will open one of the issues you talked about in a thread since it interests me. make threads of the other topics if you like cosmos, they can be disscussed indivisually

It doesn't even have to encourage "racism" to be a bad approach; that it's a big load of vicious ranting is bad enough.

Also, SoaC, the libertarian party isn't the only option either... supposedly the Constitution party is pretty libertarian too...

It wasn't until I used the internet that I met someone who called themselves Christian that didn't come off as the biggest asshole I ever saw. I've really yet to meet someone irl (Not saying they don't exist, just talking about personal experiences) that was religious that didn't see themselves as better than me when they found out I don't believe the same thing that they do. A lot of southern baptists around here don't even want to associate with someone who isn't a super right-winger.

I'm rambling anyway, and if everyone else around me is right, then I'll be burning in hell. At least I'll get VIP tickets and get to hang out with Satan. And we all know Satan throws one mean party.

That breaks my heart.  =(  I honestly don't understand how fully-grown adults who are three times my age just can't grasp the basics of individual rights and putting themselves in another's shoes.  I'm so sorry you have to deal with loonies like that.  I promise there are a LOT of level-headed religious and/or spiritual folk out there.

Did you ever have to deal with religious pressure as a child?  Probably a stupid question, but I'm fascinated by when kids pop their heads above the cattle drive to say something that stupefies the grown-ups.  It seems that a lot of adults are so wrapped up in upholding traditional things that they can no longer fathom anything remotely unorthodox.  I guess it may be partly a case of being "set in the ways", but really, does it take that much effort to just consider a new idea?
Maybe someone can offer me an answer on this:  I've always wondered what in tarnation causes folks to believe one major religion over ALLLLL the others, when each and every one (excluding some) claims to be the only right path.  Where is the logic in this?  Some would argue that it's a matter of faith and not logic, and some even argue that logic is irrelevant.  I won't even get into the "believing fairy tales" part.  What causes people to believe one thing and disregard the others, when they all say the same thing?  Violence and hatred can't be it, because Christian and Islam are full of both, and they're the two largest religions on the planet.  Is it because children are brainwashed in Sunday School?
One thing I must touch before we move on, however:
I must corract u!  Invader Zim's quality isn't actually from the humor at all, if you'll notice -- It's from the satire of the public school system, capitalism, and the stupidity of the average person.  The hilarity lies in the characters' flawed logic and connecting two events that shouldn't logically be connected.  For example, the Irken race is a vertically-challenged people who equate height with intelligence.  The Irken race is smart enough to have advanced technology, but the fact that they can't distinguish a physical trait from a mental one points out that they have no sense.  And that's funny.  GIR only puts icing on the show; disregard him and his "random" humor to get to the meat of it.
Also, Jhonen Vasquez hates the emo kid fans that gravitate to his "scary" style, if that makes you feel better.
End derail.  =
Back to individual rights!!
P.S.  Thank you for the new thread, Mada!  Sorry for coming off as a dingus in the first one, guys.

Watching the video now, thanks!

EDIT:  Looks alright, but after reading up on both, I think I like the libertarian party better.  Thank you for the info!!

Plenty of religious pressure. I remember being told I was gonna go to hell when I was in Kindergarten >_>

Anyway, concerning your question about the possibility of accepting another's religiouss ideals, it goes back to what a lot is taught in the mythology (I consider Christianity a mythology more than anything else. No offense to anyone that is Christian, I actually find some of the folklore behind it interesting, but personally strongly disagree with a lot of points made in it). And that it is the word of god and its 100% true and only people possessed by Satan will say otherwise. And of course, Satan represents everything that is evil, so of course if you disagree with them, you're gonna burn in hell. Its as simple as that. God is introduced as the most powerful authority ever and its word is perfect because the Bible says so, and that's where the attitude comes from. I would imagine the arrogance bestowed by the Christian God is thus passed down to those that vehemently insist that they shove their beliefs down another's throat.

About adults, its more or less that its "just wrong". You have to remember, I live in a section of the country where people are still scared ****less over the thought of interracial couples and would disown their son/daughter over involving themselves in such a thing. No wonder I have such a passionate hatred for rednecks and most things associated with the southeast.

Kindergarten?? TT__TT I'm so sorry! Do you remember what you said or did to deserve being told that?

And now, because it amuses me greatly, I present a chart of Christian circular logic!

^I think that post might be a bit offensive to some of the more religious members of the MoFo.... just saying. I dislike Christianity quite a bit myself but I'm not trying to bash it, that would be hypocritical of me.

But yes, in Kindergarten I was told many a time I was gonna go to hell because I didn't go to church.....

Honestly, with as many times as I've been told that I'm going to hell (Hint: Its well over 9000), I've just accepted it. Besides, I'm an avid fan of metal music and metal is the devil's music so there will be plenty for me to enjoy!

It would be offensive to illogical thinkers, but I'm not sure we have any of those types here. I think any religious folks who have their head on straight would easily realize that making faith stronger requires questions and evidence and trying to figure out all the holes, whereas blind faith (as outlined above) is just plain groundless.

I'm all for religion that has a basis in reality, don't get me wrong. Some branches of Christianity are super level-headed. What I'm pointing out with the chart is the loony side of things.

I wanna make it clear that the topic was closed for the reason Mada (sonicfan) guessed: I couldn't allow responses to the topic the way the topic was presented. You didn't come off as a dingus; ;P It's a Terms of Service issue, really. We can't promote hate.

And for the record, I just re-opened that topic. Continue! *flies away~*
