(Sorry if this doesn't go here. I thought it should because it has alot to do with morals and whatnot.)
I love Graffiti. I am a graffiti artist. I'm gettin' up and I love it. It's my escape and, for me, the best way for me to express myself. I love the idea that the world is my paper and the paint is my pen, ya know? You can do art with paper and pen, but it isn't the same, ya know? Anyway, the overall question is: what is your view on graffiti. Discuss.
If it's used to defile public or private property, then yes, it is wrong.
Put it on my property without my permission and I catch you, you're getting in trouble. Otherwise, no one cares.
If all grafitti were the good kind, I might agree with you. However, 90% of it is just some sugared-up kid's tag scrawled in red over a bus stop ad or something, so yes, nine times out of ten, grafitti is ugly and stupid and nobody likes to look at it.
I enjoy the kind of graffiti I see in Richmond or DC. However, the stuff where I live isn't very good at all.
I'm all for free expression, but I disagree with defacing property without permission.
Seems pretty unanimous to me. If it's legal, yay, if it's illegal, nay.
I had a better responce, but EZ ate it.
Public property: no.
Your own property: yes.
And off-topic...why'd you reset your post count again Craig-o?
But if it's art, right? The way I see it, as long as your not going around tagging stoopid things like little Nazi symbols or stoopid profanity, I personally think it's alright. I think too many people are against it. I just don't understand it. The city I live in needs it anyway. It's boring as all hell. And the pre-existing graffs aren' good.
Art means different things to different people. The people who go to my establishment may have different tastes/backgrounds than the people who visit yours. If you really want to tag somewhere then you can ask permission first. There are alot of city works that actually will let grafitti artists put their work on temporary construction walls and in specified areas of the city.
Otherwise I just see it as vandalism done by kids who have never had to pay for anything. Sorry if that makes me close minded, but my apartments are graffiti'd all the time, and because of it my rent goes up. The complex apparently spends a ton of money a year having the walls cleaned.
Wait wait... no one has said it's wrong or they hate it. Why are you being defensive?
As a hopeful artist myself, I think graffiti as an art form can be incredible, and in many cases unbelievable as to how they achieved what the artists have performed, however, as stated by others, if it's on public property, without permission from the local authorities (they may want to add a little colour) then it is then illegal. As for tagging and the majority of graffiti on the streets, which is definately not an art form, I can't stand it, and it gets everywhere.
There's also a health issue, my friend, whom I've known all my life, used to suffer heavily due to asthma as a child, and to get to the closest park to his home at that time, he had to go under a tunnel which was coated in graffiti, the fumes aggrivated his asthma every time. I would rather graffiti was left to professional artists only, and even then, in places where it can't harm people. Sadly, the kids that do the tagging don't care.
Have you thought of considering the other residents point of view in the matter? they have to live in your city too.
graffiti isn't everyone's favorite, they might be very displeased with you if you ruin the image of their city.
Ask them, do a survey if you're not convinced.
Well I kinda live in a hick town. 'Lotta rednecks. 'Lotta wiggers and preppies too. I'm kind of a punk (ignore the Good Point Wonderbat. Nobody says you have to post. And There is a human soul. What makes you feel emotion? Hm? C'mon. Come up with proof that there isn't, and then maybe I'll believe you. And I also heard about the human soul weighing in at about 20 to 21 grams. That said something about blood loss and fecal release after death so that might be where the other 21 went. Who knows?
Anyway, people need to believe in something. Anything at all. Wnd when there is already an established faith, than they don't have to take all the time to establish one for themselves, hence Christianity. I don't think anybody even thinks of that (existing Christians I mean), but I really do believe that.
Your post got eaten by your last one =(
