the other night was pretty busy for me and by the time i went to bed 5 in the morning, my insomnia had crept up and was keeping me awake. As i continued with thoughts in my head trying to lull me to sleep i began subconciously talking to myself, except, unlike a normal talk with myself it was like another person in me was talking to me, i wasnt sure if i was just tired and reffering to myself in second person or if i was actually experiancing schizophrenia, i dont know anyone with the condition so i dont have anyone or anything to compare it with, but it scared me pretty bad and i have been a bit shooken up on the matter. Anyone had experience with this that could add?

Ok,

Seek out a counselor or mental health professional (doesn't have to be a psychiatrist).

But, it is the people who think talking to the voices in their head is normal that really need help, so I think you're ok.

Unless you are having other symptoms such as; anxiety, uncontrollable crying, memory loss, depression, loneliness, nervousness, hyperalertness, hypersensitivity, suicidal thoughts, always angry.

Then you should definately see a counselor. There is no shame in it, life gets tough on all of us.

What Jim said. You're probably okay because you did notice the fact that you were talking to yourself. Still, it'd be a good idea to talk to someone just in case.

I highly doubt that you're schizophrenic. For one thing, what you are describing is not schizophrenia. My best bet is that it was, if anything, a hypnogogic hallucination - that is hallucinations that occur just as one is about to fall asleep. It isn't that rare and is not associated with mental illness.

Erm, schizophrenia does include "hallucinating" of sorts - hearing (most common) and seeing things that aren't real.

It's got a fairly wide range of symptoms. See your doctor to put your mind at rest one way or the other.

One of my friends, Aaron, is schizophrenic. He has absolutely no emotions and is more intelligent than anyone I ever knew in my whole life.

What if it was just sleep-talking?
But if you're definitely sure you were wide awake, I'd go with the advice of what the rest of these guys are saying.

Your brain tends to do crazy stuff when it's exhausted. And from what I could tell by reading your post it only happened once. I wouldn't be too worried, [joking]unless you've been in contact with the One Ring for prolonged periods of time[/joking]. (Sorry, couldn't resist...)

Seriously though, you could just do some research on it, then once you get more information and you're still uncertain, then you might want to consider going to the doctor, if just to keep you from worrying.
