Kind of an odd question that I thought of that was brought up in my last Western Civilization class. I figured this would address some of the Europeans' attentions at this board though it may catch the attention of my fellow American posters as well (or other peoples not living in Europe).
Just wondering, I know there are people for or against such an ordeal, it'd be cool to hear some opinions from the peoples from the UK and other European countries as it'd be cool to actually know what their feelings towards it would be. Having Europe become the United States of Europe, instead of separate countries would benefit, but there would also be uhh..bad things as well. Europe is rich in history, and each European country takes pride in it's rich noble heiritage. Yet I already see it happening by the use of Euro in some European countries.
But maybe I'm not entirely clear on the subject. Opinions for all countries are welcome though.
And I hope this is the right place to put it, it's not really philosophical enough in my opinion for Marble Gardin and a bit too appropriate for the spa. However if I am wrong in posting this here I implore the admins/mods to move it accordingly. oo

Ugh, if the European Union does happen. I hope they call themselves something other than "The United States of Europe". Though if anything, it'd give a rival economy to that of the US.

Given the current quarles in the EU over Britain's proposed budget amendments, it don't look like happening, any time soon.
(Britain has the presidency of the EU until the December Summit, I think)

We should make the EU an offer; Become one nation, and we'll throw in Quebec for free :thumbsup

It'll never happen. The only regions in the world with as much historical animosity between countries as Europe are the Middle East and India & Pakistan.

Simple, at least where I live if you asked them the question the answer would probably be:

******* off...

No, seriously, and I agree with this, I dont want antyhing more to do with Europe than we have already. Their great as neighbours, great commercial trading partners, theability to get to and fro through to France easily really makes European Hlidays and travel and commerce easier.
But, a LARGE ammount of people in the Uk ABHORE france, a large ammount abhore germany, I'm sure there are some Italiaphobes here and, oh m god, I canlist people who hate Austria, Norway, beligum, Luxemburg. We hate everyone, I promise you, give me a week and I'll find someone who can give me a reason why he thinks portugal is hell on earth and run by the devil.

We;re perfectly fine as we are, and I can't imagine the country being ran by anyone who isn't British, we have enough problems with the French Agrigultural policy never mind handing over all the power.

The one good thing about the Uk is, although a large ammount of the population has our own opinion, and we all get drunk enough to express them volcally, none of us are extremist enough to actually do anything and we've the sense to elect nice people who realise that it doesn't pay to piss off the peoples of Kazakhstan. We leave that to our news reports and comedians, Ali Gi please step up.

Just to back up my above statements, don't know why else I reposted it.
Besides, as far as I can tell Tony Blair's view is: Make friends with everyone. We're in europe because it's good for economy. We helped America out because it gives us good links with America's economy, best of both worlds. But we're only dipping our toes in, anything commited and SOMEBODY in the UK will start moaning.
It's a national past t:cookies ime, and we love it :cuckoo

And that's the kind of attitude that would make quite a few imperilists start muttering; "Bloody Americans, think they own the world." I don't know if you are American or not, it doesn't matter, even if you were from Germany I promise you some british grandad is reading that and thinking about America with loathing in their hearts :cuckoo

That said, the opinions expressed above are all minorities, but they do add up. The majority of us love 90% of the world, we do, we really do.
