Through and through, I have had this arguement/discussion many times over and over. I have had the traditionial arguement of "Black Sabbath is Metal, Mike!" - Me, personally have and never will see them as a Metal band. Sure, they inspired such things like Sludge Metal, Heavy Metal, and such... but inspiring something does not make you that genre. It's simple logic, to me. But still even if I say that people refuse to take my opinion about the subject matter seriousily. Well people. I think Black Sabbath, the supposed Kings of Metal as a ROCK band. Why do I think this? I mean it's not horribilly obscure that I think this.

Black Sabbath sounds to me very much like a original band with that raw 60s _rock_ sound you found in bands like Jefferson Airplane, and such. But we all know Sabbath sung about gloomier aspects of the 60s rock movement so lets not use that as a arguement.

The basic premise of this topic is to debate. Is Black Sabbath METAL or ROCK that inspired Metal?

You decide.

I thought you said griping about musical taste was a pointless endeavor.

I know we're not supposed to do this sort of thing ever since sun/cloud but the only thing that can describe this topic is:

FAIL.

Black Sabbath HAS done it all, trying out different sounds over the years. However their lasting impact on popular culture will be as a Metal band. A lot of bands have changed their sound album to album, or even with different songs on the same album, but bands contemporary to Sabbath such as Jethro Tull, Who, The Rolling Stones all have their own distinctive sound.

Sabbath will continue to be the "Pioneers of Metal" or simply a Metal band simply because it was that body of work that resonated most with fans and pop culture.

Wonder, that doesn't contribute anything. If you don't like a music classification post you don't have to respond to it.

I say music classification is purely subjective, especially in close classifications like rock and metal.

Listen to the man. Music taste, and yes classification too, is purely subjective. What you like, someone else will like. No amount of frivalous arguments is going to prove your point.

You say toMAYtoe, I say toMAHtoe, lets call the whole thing off. :3
