Lately I've been thinking about this. I'm kinda wondering what you guys here thought about it, too.  Basically, there are some forums out there like Sonic Retro or SSMB that are huge, and have a ton of members. Then, there are forums like this one where everybody pretty much kinda knows eachother. Or at least get to know each other. You know, kind of a smaller place where there arent as many members. So I was wondering what your preference was.

I like smaller forums like this one because

1. There wont be new posts in a topic as often, which can be a good or bad thing but from my point of view, its good, because I dont have to check the forum as often for new replies on my topics.
2. A nice feeling comes from kind of knowing everybody here, and thats really mostly what it is.

All though some people could find bigger forums better because they'll have more interesting debates, get to see alot of peoples points of view, I mean... there are many reasons to prefer one more than the other. So where you do you stand?

As long as the forum is friendly, I don't mind the size. Smaller closely-knit forums tend to be friendlier by default, but there are huge forums out there that are still friendly.

For instance I love going on the MSPA forums as people will take the time to comment on every single piece of art in the fanart thread (which regularly gets three pages of replies within the 8-10 hours I'm asleep), rather than here where you tend to get ignored. *shrugs*

Here's good for other stuff though. Like debates and stuff. Threads like this. I dunno 😀

There was a time when this forum was a lot more active, and we had a lot more users posting. (See: foum tallies). But even back when it was busiest here (04-05?), I always felt I recognised all of the usernames posting on a daily basis. Not really a big fan of big bustling places, always feels like you have to make way too much effort to be noticed, whereas I am just plain and dull and very unnoticable by nature.

I suppose this forum always struck the right balance with me, as I've never felt the need to frequent any other forum.

Are you heck!!!!! >=(

You're one of the most likable people here, you just don't post all that much that's all.

There's this really huge forum site I'm also a part of, and I've been going on it for 4 years, and I still don't know many people there. One interesting fact? The "Today's Birthdays" section HERE has one or maybe 2, sometimes zero every day. Over there, it typically ranges from 30-50 names on the list.

The "today's birthdays" isn't always accurate. I purposely always list my birthday as "January 1st" (and change the year at times) if something asks for my birthday that I feel has no business storing that information--ezboard/yuku qualifies to me as not needing to know the date of my birthday.

As for the topic at hand, I don't really have a preference. I just need to feel that I can post and get what I need out of it--and usually I'm looking for the ability to get accurate information on a particular fandom. If I get to know people, great. If I don't, that's also great.

not just you true red dear, lots of people here made their birthday's on 1/1 XD i remember on the new year there was lots of names someone took a pic of it even, if memory serves me right, and posted a topic on the spam section.

as for mine i kept it private and i think others did too. so it doesnt mean there's less people here cause there's not a lot of brithday notices just means this site gives you the option to make your birthday date secert which is good for a lot of us shy ones.

i dont know you that well one tru blu but i agree with her, when i asked you something out of the blue you didnt ignore my message and answered my question if anything that shows how friendly you are. you just dont post a lot that's all which i hope changes XD

I've met OTB once in real life at Birmingham, UK. He was a pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything. I met Pachamach and NukeAllTheWhales (THS come with but considering we're a couple that's not suprising) at the same time. Dispite online appearances I was the shyest person there.

Unfortunately I don't think OTB'll ever post any more than he does now. It's how he rolls, he's the mystery man.

A bit more on topic, the only forums I participate in is the MF, MSPA forums, Creoland and argueably Italics but to be honest I only post there once in a blue moon. I frequent lurking in a couple more but never post in them. I don't post in Italics much cause they've got this whole friendship thing going on and it makes me feel like i'm elbowing in and demanding my share of the picnic when I'm not invited. Which is probably the same reason no-one other than a few people including me (sometimes) post in Creoland. So it is possible for a forum to be too small.

i feel like i'm elbowing in here all the time, or any place really. who can honsetly say they feel like they belong to anywhere.
more than thinking about that, you should ask yourself if it makes you happy posting in a forum, if it does you're doing something right if its bothering you than you should find another place taht makes you feel happy.
that's what the internet is for anyway, pleasure not stress.

I prefer smaller forums, yes.

I have quite a few forums I partake in though. I have a couple of music forums (For the sake of getting recs and expanding my tastes), here (Although I've largely been neglecting it lately D:), last.fm, and a couple of other random forums.

There's a greater sense of community in a smaller forum, I like to think.

you know hukos i was wondering where you were, that's the thing about smaller forums you remember people and "miss" them.
i also miss craig, beardo, toby, kayla, turtle, vector .. and others too, so you better not neglect the forum again hukos or you'll be in that list. even if its for a few days its noticeable... or i might just be weird XD

D'aww, I'm missed.

I've always preferred this forum over others, I guess because it's almost a habit to come here on my daily 'net surfing. Even when things were busiest here, I always felt like I recognized most everyone here. Since it's smaller now, tho, I feel like it's a much nicer, tight-knit community. I'm fine with that.

Honestly, some of the nicest people I've met on this forum have been within these past 1 or 2 years.
