don't you love it? New seasons,New shows, familliar and unfamilliar characters.
great isn't it?
Not when 4kids is involved.
so i beg the question, did 4kids end up dubbing Naruto?
(also i noticed that BoBo-whatever it is is coming too.)
I don't know. I know I heard some sort of rumor that 4kids got a hold of it. Or maybe it was Funimation. = Argh...
I'm not even a fan of Naruto, but if it gets mangled the way One Piece got mangled, 4kids is gonna find javelins being hurled through their office windows by a very angry Shoe.
It ain't 4Kids.
ShoPro is dubbing Naruto. ShoPro is owned by Viz, who happens to also be the ones behind Shonen Jump and a good portion of translated manga, including Naruto and One Piece.
*relief* Ah. I don't remember any specific bad dubs with Viz, so hopefully Naruto will turn out well.
So, when are these new shows going to be on?
I don't watch TV. Seriously. I don't even watch the news anymore. I read the paper or listen to the radio. So no, I don't love it. At all.
I believe Naruto starts in September (or very early October). I am very glad 4Kids isn't dubbing it, though I would have been interested to see what they'd have turned Kakashi's "Make-Out Paradise" magazines into.
bah, i wish viz was licenced to sell manga in the UK. ;.; there's very few places that ship in comics like naruto.
bobobobbobobo-etc is being licenced? o_o i've only seen one episode, and it was insane! he fights with his nosehairs for goodness sakes.
The only animes I'm looking forward to are the new Sonic X episodes and the Viewtiful Joe anime, as I don't watch much anime as I used to (wanna watch more American-based cartoons).
~Neo
I just want more Fullmetal Alchemist, myself, considering new Case Closed eps aren't going to be coming on TV anytime soon. 300 eps of the latter and still growing, yet low ratings over here mean we only get the same set. Disappointing, though at least I don't watch a good series get mediocre or anything (not to say it definitely does, it's just that 300 episodes sounds a LITTLE dragged-on to me...). At least Fullmetal only has 51 eps to go through in total.
Other than that, I really don't watch much TV. The Internet's where it's at.
300 eps of the latter and still growing, yet low ratings over here mean we only get the same set.
I think the low ratings are partially due to the fact that they play it at the ungodly hours of the morning. But yeah, it saddens me, too, mostly since it's pretty much the only anime I liked.
At last, the mystery has been solved. And 4Kids ISN'T GETTING NARUTO! **dances a happy, happy dance**
I'm not a fan of most anime (usually there are too many fans that turn me off of series' like Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, InuYasha, Full Metal Alchemist, among many others)... Naruto's the only one I really follow. ^^;
... I'm not worried so much about Make-Out Paradise as I am about Sexy no Jutsu. o.o; Though it's not being done by 4Kids, it's still gonna be shown on Toonami (right? unless this has changed and I have not been informed?) and I highly doubt they'll show that. XD
~Shadowed Spirit Sage
...Make-Out Paradise and Sexy no Jitsu.
Do I really wanna know?
Make-Out Paradise = Come Come Paradise (Japanese name), which is basically porno (it's ALLUDED to be porno, anyhow).
As for Sexy no Jutsu...
Naruto.
Naruto using Sexy no jutsu.
The target.
Instant nosebleed!
All I have to say is, "poor poor Iruka-sensei". **hands him a box of Kleenex** XD
Ultra wins the prize for giving a better description of Sexy no Jutsu than I ever could.
~Shadowed Spirit Sage
That's a very unhealthy loss of blood.
Also a guy turning into a chick is very very bizarre.
...
What's with anime and giving guys nosebleeds when they see "sexy" things anyway? I have never heard of that happening in real life ever.

Tell that to fans of Ranma 1/2. 😀
Actually, Naruto never turns into a girl, it's just an illusion (but a very convincing one, judging by his opponent's reactions).

I'd prefer not to get near them.

Oh. That makes a little bit more sense. I think.
so it's Shopro who's got it then eh?
YEYEAH! ow,that makes me so happy.
Quote:

Even we think it's bizarre. That's why we love it. (okay, at least me. I like surreal things. Watch Excel sometime)
Also notable. I think Shopro's got access to the Oceans group(seeing as they're doin the dubs to Rockman EXE and Axess). HUZZAH.
Geneon has Viewtiful Joe...which DARN well better mean bilingual DVDs! I wanna see Six Majin duke it out with King Blue Mech! COME ON, SIX MAJIN!
Wait. Isn't Ranma 1/2 on Adult Swim? Or...am I hallucinating? oO

Naruto's a ninja, so he uses Sexy-no-Jutsu, one of his many illusion techniques, to "distract" his opponents.

It's a rather general Asian thing. It makes sense when you think about it. When you see something sexy, your heart begins beating faster, you breathe harder, you start sweating, your face gets flushed, you get all feverish. The Chinese term, at least, for all these things is literally "heating the blood." The conclusion Asian cultures have made regarding these physical symptoms is that if you see something CRAZY sexy, you'll rupture a blood vessel. Hence nosebleeds.
YAY TRIVIA!
I always find it kind of unnerving that Sexy-no-jutsu Naruto doesn't look like a sexy woman, but more like a transgendered man. I mean, he has the same face and everything. It's freaky.
Heh, knowing them, Make-out Paradise would probably be interpreted as some sort of romance novel or something. It can still work within the context of the show, where the ninja mentors are "girl crazy," kind of like in Animaniacs, which was definitely a kids' show.
Man. Kakashi needs a girlfriend.
I have a T1 on campus so I always catch shows fansubbed. Because of that, my fall list is basically "whatever they showed at Otakon that I was impressed with." I've finished season 1 of Full Metal, but I can never get myself to keep going because it's just so sad, I never want to watch it while I'm in a happy mood.
I'm looking forward to getting E'S Otherwise, another Square-Enix production. Square's got that "sketchy pseudo-evil badass government organization the do-gooder hero works for" ting down pat... again. It's relatively new (2003) and I caught the first three episodes at Otakon. Should be interesting.
Also, Fafner, Yakitate Japan and Gakuen Alice. Gunslinger Girls.. maybe.
Wait. Isn't Ranma 1/2 on Adult Swim? Or...am I hallucinating? oO
You're hallucinating.
The flyer thingy that came with a magazine says Naruto comes out on September 10, Saturday, at 9PM ET/PT. I'm going to watch in happy tears, as 4Kids didn't get to dub the show. *party!* And like everyone else, I want to see what they do to Naruto's "sexy no jutsu".
Yes, I want to see the remaining episodes of Case Closed on Cartoon Network... A part within me died when they started at episode 1 again
Someone needs to import Yakitate! Japan. Soon. Maybe I'll buy the books and look at the pictures, while confusedly looking at the Japanese writing.
Fullmetal Alchemist. I want to see the remaining episodes, and I want to see the movie. Drastic measures may have to be taken...
That's about it. *sends herself to Japan so she can watch the Fullmetal Alchemist movie and Yakitate! Japan*
Part of me died when I was unlucky enough to see the intro to 'One Piece'.
~Rico
Part of me died when I was unlucky enough to see the intro to 'One Piece'.
A huge part of me died when I actually sat through a full episode of One Piece.
In two words, it sucked.
Hey. Rico.
GOTTA GO! GOTTA GO, GOTTA GO! HO HO!

Dubbed? Can't say for the sub, but if you watched the dub, well of COURSE it sucked, it's freakin' 4Kids.
I think I would've hated either version. The concept of the show is incredibly stupid. And not in the funny way.
Oh, you kids and your crazy pointy cartoon fetish.
I basically only watch Nick @ Nite, it has only about 3 good shows, including the Foxworthys that is rarely on.
Average nick @ nite night:
Fresh Prince (yay!)
Cosby Show (yay!)
Rosseanne
Rosseanne
Rosseanne

Cooki-Adult Swim said they wouldn't do Ranma. There was a card saying "stop telling us to do Ranma 1/2". Too bad, though, it's a great series. Anyway, yeah. I almost punched the TV in the first fight between Zoro and Buggy in the dub. GEE! ZORO GOT PUNCHED REAL HARD IN THE BACK SO NOW HE CAN'T GET UP! OHNOZ! Come on, people. It's freakin' midnight, show the frickin' knife!
Nah, the dubbing of One Piece is only good for one thing. Laughing at how pitifully horrible it is.
Stick with the Jap version.
i didn't see the Buggy duel thankfully, are you actually telling me the Chop-Chop man didn't use a knife? I thought it was bad enough when I tuned in and saw Sanji's cigarette had been replaced by a lollipop. o__O
i don't mind One piece, if you can stomach the lame theme song, Luffy being pronounced LOOFY and Zoro being pronounced Zolo, Sanji's lollipop, Luffy's horribly irritating voice, lack of violence, Ussop, and everything else that's been butchered out of the manga then you'll like it.
i'll still watch it myself. seeing as how Shaman King wasn't all that bad.
i just didn't want to see a 4kids Naruto. if they Butchered THAT series (I.e. cutting out most of the violence) then you wouldn't have a show.
Naruto isn't being dubbed by 4Kids.
As for Luffy, it actually is pronounced 'Loofy'.
Quote:
It's freakin' midnight, show the frickin' knife!
It plays saturday mornings on Fox in my area.
1. In the JP version, that is actually close to how Luffy and Zoro's names are pronounced. Though...Luffy's name in Japanese sounds more like "rufie", so...yeah. Zoro's name is pronounced "zodo". Yeesh, I never thought I'd find myself defending 4Kids. O.o SHOOT ME NOW.
2. And no, they didn't edit out the knife entirely...just when it hit Zoro. Then the knife magically vanished.
3. It also's on Toonami's Midnight Run, with the uncut DBZ. So...yeah. They need to unedit it.
4. Sanji's lollipop is excusable. Sanji's VOICE DUB is not. They made him sound like a total idiot!
But Cyk, i thought you loved Sanji's amazingly congested New york accent!
Zoro's and Nami's voices are okay.
Luffy's is tolerable at times.
Sanji's is horrible.
Usopp's makes me want to gouge my eardrums out.
ussop's voice was pretty good. it's just like i thought he would sound.
Admittedly, I imagined Usopp's voice to be a bit 'toony'...but the voice acting is HORRIBLE. ATROCIOUS. Usopp's VO has no impact or emotion in his work.
Saw the first two episodes of Naruto. Aside from a bit of blood removal, I noticed no major edits (there was a missing scene that showed Naruto stealing the scroll from the Hokage that involved him using the Sexy no jutsu, but I don't know if this is a manga-only scene). The Sexy jutsu was retained intact, and Naruto's voice actor was actually pretty good!
Rating: A
Naruto and One-Piece:
Living proof that Ninjas will ALWAYS be better than Pirates.
I thought Naruto was a fairly decent dub, although I did dislike Naruto's voice actor. And I've been pronouncing it "na-RU-to" all this time, while the show says "NA-ru-to."
Better DUB than One Piece, but I prefer OP.
Due to being at a friend's house for a party, I wasn't able to see a lot of it.... I saw the second half of the first episode and skipped most of the second episode....
But from what I did see, it stayed rather true to the anime, which makes me very happy ^^
Sure, the dubs aren't the best in the world, but they're better than others I've seen. It took awhile to get used to the English voices though, after watching it in Japanese for two years. It was as if my mind rejected it for a few minutes... it was kinda weird but cool. XD
So far, I give it the Sage Approval.
EDIT: (there was a missing scene that showed Naruto stealing the scroll from the Hokage that involved him using the Sexy no jutsu, but I don't know if this is a manga-only scene).
Yeah, that's a manga-only scene ^^; It wasn't in the Japanese version either.... I think it might have been cut for time, but I'm not sure.
~Shadowed Spirit Sage
Ah.
I really don't watch the original Japanese version of any anime, or the subs for that matter. That's why I'm a bit more tolerant of dubs.
But not sucky dubs, oh no.
And here's an interesting bit of trivia; did you know the director of the Naruto dub is Jeff Nimoy (director of the Zatch Bell dub's first season and the majority of season 1-2 of Digimon)?
Sasuke is pronounced SAUCEKAY?
that's really really weird.
Eh, Japanese pronunciations differ from what you expect. For instance, I thought Sakura was Su-KOO-ra...not SAH-kuh-ra.
FYI, there's an encore tonight at 10:00 Eastern/9 Central for the first two episodes of Naruto.
Naruto has fared much better than One Piece when it comes to dubbing, though I can't stand Naruto's VA (a little too high-pitched for my tastes).
Well, he IS twelve. Boys going into puberty tend to have breaking voices. Besides, the voice itself is fine...but the acting of the voice ITSELF is what impressed me.
