Dont get me wrong I know that the main use of the Swastika (today) is to represent Nazism. I was just saying that the symbol wasnt alway representing evil.
That's why Buddhists don't use it anymore, even though the symbol they used (the name escapes me) was the reverse of the Swastika. Having said that, I've seen enough backwards Swastikas scrawled on bathroom walls that I doubt even intelligent people would be able to tell the difference.

There's a symbol used by certain flavours of Buddhism that looks like a backwards Swastika, but the similarity is purely coincidential.

actually there is no coincidence, as a boy Hitler went to a church (I think, it was some kind of communal building) and the original symbol was part of the decoration on the floor
when he was gaining power he reversed the symbol and took it as his own

note, I was told this by my history teacher a few years back, thus the lack of exact details, you got a problem, take it up with my history teacher

Don't use such sweeping generalizations when trying to annoy people then - that was flamebait as it stands. It's kind of late to say "I didn't mean it," but just avoid being too ambiguous about stuff like that and it's cool.

And Jaffa, people start wars, not religion. Greed, selfishness, misunderstand are the very things most religions teach against, and it is these things that cause wars. Not every religion is good or builds up moral character, there are some that are deliberately encouraging antisocial or even evil behavior. Not trying to stuff it in your face, but religion gets a lot of blame for stuff rooted in the flaws of people, not the religions themselves. Your point about us arguing about stuff is noted, however.

The whole slavery vs. other stuff thing shouldn't even be addressed in this topic, as stated before. Marble Garden is really a lovely place for that, again I don't go there so I encourage you to move it there. 😛

And as for demon-busting, hand me that chaingun and don't spare the ammo.

The original Swastika was not the swastika shown on the Nazi flag. It WAS a symbol for many cultures and religions, but Hitler turned it around AND tilted it, making it a symbol of evil. Yes, I have a book on his history. And he did go to church, and there were no swastikas there.

I still can't remember how it came about though... Time to dig it out and read it.

The right-facing Nazi swastika.

The left-facing Buddhist swastika (known in Japanese as manji).

However, the swastika always faces right in India (Buddhism's home country), as a left-facing swastika is a symbol of evil in Indian Buddhism. However, due to the controversy with Nazism, Buddhist swastikas outside of India have changed to the left-facing one.

Right-facing swastika in Hinduism symbolizes luck, the sun, Brahma (the god of creation in Hinduism), or the concept of samsara (or rebirth).

Although Cycle is an often blunt and disagreeable person of somewhat-ill repute, telling him to 'STFU':

A) Does not help your case at all.

B) Is akin to the pot calling the kettle black.

Well, before this gets sent --somewhere--...like I have a feeling it will, I thought I'd chime in one last time.

slavery is the least of our problems
You know, I could have sworn that under UN convention that practice had been all but eradicated globally.

If we had no religion, we'd have no war.
What Tergo said. Opposed to what many would have you believe, religion was a mere excuse reason to launch war. It's usually, if not always, about resources.

Well you see, I tried to articulate a suitable response to the quote, but after half an hour I gave up. I was at a loss for words, so I decided the graphic would be a much better summation of what I meant to say. Calling a science textbook "biased" for not including creationism is like calling... you know what? It's still just too ridiculous for any analogy I can come up with. I lack the vocabulary and imagination necessary to find a proper comparison here. Be proud: you managed to leave me utterly speechless. And that doesn't happen very often, if I do say so myself.

Cycle is an often blunt and disagreeable person of somewhat-ill repute

It was a long time ago, and for a very good reason (though I'm sure you enjoyed it). It doesn't exactly validate your comment of my being "of ill refute", though I do like it when people refer to me as "notorious", "illustrious", "infamous" and other such things.

I do realize my behaviour has been rather boorish as of late, and it's mainly because I've been posting a lot on the PA forums, among others, where it is perfectly within the rules to show no mercy against dumb posts, statements, people and threads, and where you can count on it that if someone's feelings are hurt in the process, it'll be their fault. Needless to say it's kind of rubbed off on me and I tend to forget where I am. I'll try to work on that.

Sorry, Mau. You're perfectly entitled to your opinions, and I hope you realize I never meant to say otherwise. I've made it clear before that I don't think I should have to remind people of this every time I disagree with them, however, in retrospect I probably should've been speechless and left it at that.

Seriousily though, get a backbone. This is the internet- words will be said, not all nice. What ever happened to "Sticks and Stones will break my bones, but Words will never hurt me." - learn that policy and stop whining over someone over the internet.

Indeed. I thought 'ill-repute' was a reference to a person's sexual character.

Anyways, Darkwolfe, methinks we weren't supposed to reveal that little tidbit.....remember what happened there with Sailor Nudity? :p

I accept your appoligy and I appoligize also, I do have a bad temper about things and when people put down the people I care about or my personal beliefs, I tend to fly off the wall. I've got nothing against an opposing opinion, it's just the amount of venom and attitude in your posts I didn't like. *shrugs* Now that that's been cleared up...

And Ultra Sonic I don't think people appreciate having something like being banned brought up. :p

Ahhh! My post disapeered. This is why I HATE this kind of layout. >.< It's too confusing to know where to reply or what.

Anyway I appoligized as well...if you can find my reply floating around here somewhere...o.o

Edit: This is what I originally posted but it ended up as a reply to a different part of the thread. Gah! So confusing. -_-;

I only did it to give credence to my 'ill-repute' comment. I personally wouldn't care if someone referred to a time where I got banned. If that were the case, they were just referring to a younger, less mature 'me'.

Besides, Cycle's tough. :cuckoo

I tend to prefer the Plasma Gun myself, though it depends on how many demons start charging out of that hole...

Besides, we need to take out the head of John Romero, to stop the spawning of random demons, and then clean-up surviving archviles. Cheat-hacks at the ready!! :cuckoo

I've always loved the shotgun. I've been hooked on shotties ever since Doom 1. Over a decade later, my favourite gun in just about every shooter I play remains the shotty.

True, for generic wandering around, nothing beats the shotgun. However, when you're expecting to face hordes of high-powered demons, you want something with a little more oomph...

What you talkin' 'bout, Willis? More oomph?! Few things have more oomph than blasting some dude's face off with two barrels of bucksot. Basically the only situations that call for anything other than the shotty is when you're in a big open area or a long, narrow hallway. There's nothing quite like flying round a corner at full tilt and blasting some hapless henchman's carcass in half.

I have plyed Doom, I am not one who randomly wanders around with the BFG, and I do indeed value the shotgun highly - good ammo efficiency and highly effective at dealing with enemies up to and including Cacodemons, hence making it weapon of choice for having ready while wandering around levels. However, against things such as Barons of Hell, the shotgun becomes more dubious, and the harder enemies are far more capable of simply shrugging off shotgun blasts. Couple this with a relatively slow firing rate which only picks off a couple of low-calibre enemies at a time, and appreciation for something such as the plasma gun - which has far more finesse than the BFG9000 - is surely deserved. Granted, cells tend to be scarce, and so use of such weapons is not advisable under most circumstances, but I'm anticipating a large force coming out of that hole, and I ain't taking any chances

The shotgun was awesome...

...

...but the SUPER shotgun was millions of times better. Same principle but over twice the damage (7 rays calculated with the shotgun, 20 with the SSG) for just twice the shells seems like a good deal to me. Kills Pinkies in one hit, Cacodemons and Hell Knights in three, and for everything else, it has the impact of a rocket without the blast radius. Assuming you're more close to the enemy than far, or otherwise, that rocket IS your best bet.

VCP is the only mod I can think of who has ever been banned (to my knowledge) and he's clearly the best one ever!

Technically, I've been banned 3 times, however each time was by complete accident. Yay!
