I was at first surprised you knew about the "newbie eating" welcome but when I read your mention of you looking around for a while before posting (even though it was because you couldn't) it made more sense to me.
Similar thing with the subjectline, when I read "the infamous" I thought it was someone who had read a lot of "I'm new" threads and was commenting on them, as opposed to someone who was introducing themself. Well, since you read posts before posting, I guess a little bit of both would happen to be true, huh? By the way, speaking of patience, I sent this post with missing fields twice and had to start this post over each time.
