I figured I'd use it to talk about the rep post from a while ago. More recently when I insisted on talking to certain mods about it they said the reason people didn't read my posts wasn't my past self but my longwindedness. So let's test that theory.
I know I'm dragging up an old topic, (I don't remember it well myself) but it's one I'd like to talk about since I find it interesting how popular opinion in this community works. It seems like when others here say people don't read my posts because of my history, and I'm the one pointing to the posting style, they say posting style changes are superficial, yet when I'm the one talking about my 'history' and where the rest of the site might have gotten it wrong, they then say it's the longwindedness. But I'll leave it there for now until I get responses. (Assuming I will)
Happy 1000th man! As for all this...your posts aren't read and stuff...I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. I'm only in like...3 or 4 specific topics anyway so...
yay! good for you. I missed my 1000th'd post ;;

As did I.
Matt, use smaller words.

We're not all college-material like you.

You mean in the kilopost itself, or in general? Again, I thought popular opinion here was that I was 'dumb' and the idea that big words are too 'college-material' doesn't seem all that consistent with that. o.o
I often skim through your posts rather than properly read them because a lot of your posts tend to be huge walls of text. I do the same with any large posts I find, not just yours. How you write is also quite awkward to read for me, as I find you tend to make your sentances quite long and... well long winded. While I mean this in general, there's an example in this very thread!

As one sentance that is very long, and I personally tend to find longer sentances quite hard to understand. Especially when there's lots of commas in there. I tend to limit the number of commas I use in a sentance to two or three at a stretch, as it becomes confusing with any more than that. I had to reread your sentance around four times to fully understand it all - if it were in a large wall of text you can imagine how it could put people off. If it were split into two or three sentances I'd understand it better.
And I think you are in no way dumb. I reckon you're certainly smarter than me. I think it's more a case that you tend to overthink and overanalize things, and you feel the need to clarify everything you say so it can't be misinterpreted easily. Which is fair enough, but you could probably do it with less words for the same effect. Because of this your writing style is fairly hard to read. It'll be nice if you tried to be more concise with your writing. That's my two pence.
Also, happy kilopost! Nice to see you took your time acheiving it with meaningful posts, rather than churning out a load of spam like some people do.
I don't think you're dumb, Matt. (I meant in general, btw.)
You're, like, one of the smartest people here.
I don't remember how you used to act a while ago, but right now you're using really complex sentences... so complex I don't understand them. X_x

I've missed, like, three of mine.
From the replies here it seems like the posting style was more so what people were responding to before now. But I wonder why when I was the one bringing up posting style, people who were saying it was just superficial and wasn't the real problem, or that people don't read my posts because of my history, weren't rebutalled?
It's not even as much about convincing people here to read my posts as it might seem to be; obviously I can do without it. (Many posts that get little to no response here get lots of response on some of the other websites I post them on.)
It's more so that the way things turned out while I was here, (and the "interesting" way popular opinion seemed to work here, as I said earlier) I just wanted to confront this site's apparent preconceptions about me, assuming the people expressing them meant them. (Though at least the one about me being "dumb" doesn't seem to be there anymore.) And it's not even so much about "saving face on a Sonic site" as people said a while back, but I think looking into the way things turned out could also have some more general lessons to potentially apply elsewhere too.

People probably have different reasons for not reading your posts... that's probably why they weren't ... er ... rebutted.
Also, what do you mean by "general lessons"? You mean like to improve your posts or yourself as a person?
Congratulations Matt, and you did it without spam so I thank you.

No, please, we need more "big words." CT, if you think you are not college worthy, you should raise your standards and try to get there. If I'm interpreting that right, do you really not care about being intelligent?

Matt, as usual, these are the things you are doing:
1. Assuming that a small number of people represent the larger population. Not many say that posting style is not a deterrent to reading.
2. Expecting consistency. The fact is that humans rarely know why they like or dislike things. For example, I analyzed why people like certain stories. After attempting to learn by asking or reading opinions, I realized that many of the things they say are just rationalizations of the complex processes of the brain. This is often true of morals and opinions too. Sure, there is some conscious decision there, but a lot of not so rational things play a role with most people.
You often point out some inconsistency in "society's" views, which is an extremely good quality, except that you seem to assume that the audience agrees with or wants to defend those views, or that there is a rational reason that the views exist.
I can relate to this, and based on my experiences, I wonder if perhaps you are autistic, and also suggest NOT that you stop questioning, but that you try to understand that people are individuals and motivations are a product of wildly varied factors.
Your determination to learn and improve yourself is admirable too.
Congrats on the K post. I agree with Trudi though. I skim through walls of text since I live such a rushed life. Not you fault though. Your topics are plenty interesting so your history has nothing to do with it. IMO at least XD

Well, not many say it, but since there were no rebutalls to it, it seemed like most agreed. But I'm pretty much convinced that it was posting style. By now comments like the ones I was talking about look like more like exceptions than the rule. And I agree on the "wildly varied factors" bit. (And the "rationalizations" bit felt a bit complicated for ME actually XD)
And it feels quite refreshing to see the whole thing expressed the way you put it, since it's certainly not what I'm used to here. Also, could you send me a PM? I recall sending you some before without response, and was wondering if you even recieved them, just wanted to make sure...
EDIT: And CT, it's certainly not just posts; even within the Internet I was considering using mediums other than text for online debates in the future. To say it would be about myself as a person isn't quite the best way to put it, but I do think whatever I could've found out by looking into this (as in, how things turned out here) could give me some ideas that would be useful not just on the Internet, but offline as well.
This kiliopost is a fake. Matt would of made it six paragraphs long.
Thanks for reminding us why you are banned, stair, so that I won't have to bother with deliberations about said ban.
