I'm hoping I missed the topic for this, because I couldn't find it, but I know there has to be one, right? I've been so pumped for these games since like...last year. That opening ceremony was simply amazing. I loved the Parade of Nations. Even found a new love in Women's Beach Volleyball. So anyone else been watching this or...did I not miss the topic for this and I really am the only one that finds this interesting? u_u
I've found it more interesting this year as the beeb have loads on interactive features that you can "press the red button" and watch whatever event you want or pick up on the day's highlights. Also online streaming in SD quality for more events and stuff is http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/live_action/default.stm
the opening was the most epic one i've ever seen in the olympics. the chinese really love their wire-fu, don't they?
i noticed taekwondo was listed as one of the events. i've never seen that in the olympics before; is it a new addition?
Yes they've really made the Olympics internet friendly this year. It's awesome. as for taekwondo...hmm I was nearly positive that was there atleast last year, but I may be getting that mixed up with mixed martial arts and judo. And yes that opening. Epicness!!
I watched the opening ceremony & some of the Vollyball & Basketball tornaments..But in all honesty I just don't have a longeinough attention span to watch a whole olympic event...The olympics rock though....I hope the U.S.A. gets at least one gold medal!
I hope the U.S.A. gets at least one gold medal!
Heard of Michael Phelps?

Heard of Michael Phelps?
He he that swimmer guy?
If so then yes..if not..then..well no.
& is it true that Cannoing is an olympic event?
Not canoeing...but sculls. Singles, doubles and quadruple I believe. Pretty amazing stuff. As for USA getting atleast one gold...we have two last I checked. With Phelps swimming again soon i'd say three is on its way. Not a long enough attention span, though? Really? Ahhh come on? This only happens every 4 years, you know.
Watched most of the opening ceremony. Frikkin' epic. Damn TV station it was on here kept going to commercials on the fireworks D: And lol, I only watched up until the end of the marching. Was kinda cool seeing that tall basketball guy bring out the China flag (can't remember his name, and too lazy to google it).
I haven't watched too many events, I did watch the swimming though with Michael Phelps, but I think that was just some preliminary stuff. But I did see some sort of cycling going on, one of those endurance cycling events too, it went on for over 6 hours and I was lucky enough to catch the last lap, which was awesome btw. Spanish won that even though D:
Hahah yea man...you'd think some of that stuff could be commercial free. But nooooo. I had the same problem. 😛 And yea that cycling event you are talking about...was like 156 miles or something. So long! That's insane. You were lucky to catch the last lap though. In the women's cycling race there was a crash...looked pretty bad but I think everyone was ok. And yea that tall Chinese guy[Yao Ming =P] was such a good sport and whatnot. China and America played this morning you know, and Yao was really cool with his fellow NBA season competitors. Anywho...have I said that i've fallen in love with another country's player over the last few days of these games? Oh man...Merel Mooren. Simply elegant. From the Netherlands...6'1" and slender. Beach volleyball.

Fast forward to 24:00. She's on the right. =]
Not canoeing...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canoeing_at_the_2008_Summer_Olympics yes canoeing also your nbc site is antisocial and will not let foreigners with a valid zipcode + isp provider access the site...
Oh wow, I stand corrected. Awesome. I don't believe they've done any canoeing yet though. Thanks nuke. Sorry about the link...I can post a pic of her awesomeness.
*heaven's angels sing* On the right btw
Yeeeaaahhhh!!
>_>
So the Winter Olympics are moreso my thing, but I like alot of Summer events too. I've been watching the Ladies Artistic Gymnastics prelims and am excited about the team finals. I also like watching Rhythmic Gymnastics which isn't for a week or so and diving.
I'm going to the 2010 Vancouver games and I can't wait to sit through the figure skating long programs.
Winter olympics are insignificant.
Winter olympics are insignificant.
Your palindrome post count is insignificant, foo! But yea I love the Winter Olympics too. Torino was like...amazing. I loved it! I've really gotten into the Olympics these last few games. Seeing the World together at one place is so overwhelmingly awesome. Did anyone else just see that 4x100 Freestyle Relay?! France and USA...my goodness. Like...the old WR wasn't anything to beat. I'm sure like more than half of the teams beat it. I'm not going to say who won...you'll just have to go find the video yourself. 😛 GoWorld!
I don't know if it's just me, but I find things like the opening ceremony to be meaningless pageantry, and I never understand why people find them so amazing. The only thing I regret missing from the opening ceremony was the fireworks ='( As for the games themselves, I've never really been too much of a fan, but this year I've watched alot due to the 12 hour time difference, so it all fits in with my staying up late this summer =D I'll probably be watching alot of the games for the next few weeks
Why is the parade of nations and whatnot so...important to most people? That's a good question actually. I couldn't tell you dude. I know for me...it's just neat seeing something that has been planned on for so long, finally executed. I honestly thought it was mindblowing...and I saw it on TV...a small 17 inch one btw. I couldn't imagine being there. As for seeing the nations come in...it's just...you know. Kinda like a fashion show...of the entire globe. But yea i'll admit I wasn't that big of a fan til like...the end of the Athens Olympics. Now i'm like...all for this stuff. Woo hoo!! I was watching water polo earlier[never had before] and it rocked. I'm not too sure why i'm so so pumped for these games, but I think it's because I love sports so much maybe. *shrugs*

It's kinda like watching the Macy's Parade when you were younger (or any other parade for that matter) You could careless about the parade itself, but rather which favorite TV show character will float their way down the parade route. It's kinda like that with the "Parade of Nations", you just wanna see your country march down waving their flag held up high with pride and enthusiasm as they enter the biggest stage in the world, representing your country.
Of course this current generation are mostly made up of angry internet trolls, that the meaning of pride and country is just meaningless.
...meh.
Oh, I'm not complaining about the March of Nations, I think that it's great for those athletes who made it to the Olympics, but aren't truly in the running to win a medal to have fun and be happy about what they have achieved. I just feel that the Ceremony before that seems meaningless, it's just because I've never liked parades or anything like that. Either way, I guess I shouldn't post if I have anything bad to say
Was kinda cool seeing that tall basketball guy bring out the China flag (can't remember his name, and too lazy to google it).
His name is Yao Ming and he's badass. As for the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, I watched ALL of it (it was the first Olympic opening ceremony I've been bothered to see from beginning to end). I think it was an INSANELY EPIC opening ceremony. Since then, I've watched a few Olympic sporting events. I've been cheering for the Aussie team, of course. I'll also definitely be watching the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, but I probably won't watch much (if any) footage of the next Winter Olympics when it rolls around in a couple of years time. I don't get as pumped up with the Winter Olympics as I do with the Summer Olympics.
Yea gammarallyson, that's a good explanation I think. And steebay, it's cool. It doesn't matter if you anything good or bad to say. Besides...you didn't say anything bad. =P Hahaha insanely epic indeed Rishi. This too, was the first one I watched all the way through. I've been watching pretty much everything. I'm like overwhelmed with this year's Olympics. It's so weird. lol
I had to find teh opening and OMFG epic is just... JEEZUS CHINA. CALM DOWN!!!
Phelps is god right now-and the Freestyle relay WAS SICKNESS. 25METERS FOR THE WIN!!! Cant wait for tonight. Phelps better get 7 this time around >>
Women Gymnastics tonight too !! But did anyone see that guy get pinned under his own weights at the Weightlifting competition? OMFG sickness.
The opening ceremony was simply awesome. I just happened to catch it out of nowhere and was so damn impressed.
You didn't have a love for women's beach volleyball already...?
No SX...I didn't. Not a love. I liked it. But my lord...I LOVE it now. And nice little thing there Steebay. I'll have to try that out. I barely know any. My score's going to suck.
When Michael Phelps jumps into the water, he doesn't get wet. He breaks a world record.
If Poseidon and Aquaman had a son his name would be Michael Phelps.
One time Michael Phelps got in a swimming pool and broke a world record for most amount of epic in a body of water.

I know..I mean 11 olympic medals...no way the guy is human.....mabye he's an android...or a podchild....Possible podbot........This requires further study.........all i can say is Phelps would most likely give shadow a run for his money as the ultimate lifeform..LULZ!
Painful weightlifting is painful D:
They were quick to move it to block the view from the public whilst he was receiving medical aid, however they then seemed to replay the moment of failure from all possible angles, much tot he displeasure of the commentators... (most of the youtube vids get removed quickly for copyright infringements, so gif only)
I like how the dudes go for the barbell first instead of the dude.
Yea...those are expensive weights i'm sure. 😛
No SX...I didn't. Not a love. I liked it. But my lord...I LOVE it now. And nice little thing there Steebay. I'll have to try that out. I barely know any. My score's going to suck.
For some reason I misread this along the lines of "No SX, I didn't, Not a love, I loved a nice little thing called Steebay"
At which point I decided to try reading that again but properly.
Hahaha! *seems my subliminal techniques are working*
a shame they faked some of the fireworks.. oo; i feel sorry for the little girl who sang the song, but wasn't shown.
It was pretty noticeable that they did fake the fireworks. One of the factors which I noticed to come to that decision was that they only linked it from the jumbo-tron big screen thing, not an actual live image for us.
i feel sorry for the little girl who sang the song, but wasn't shown.
What are you talking about? I vividly remember seeing a little girl in a red dress singing a song. Vividly.
It wasn't her singing. She was dubbed by another girl with the right singing voice, but who supposedly wasn't photogenic enough for the organisers.
Yea...what Sam said. Supposedly China has been taking notes from us in that dept. 😛 As for the fireworks...which ones were faked? I remember hearing about it, but wasn't sure which ones were. The footsteps? Because those were too awesome.
yeah, it's been reported in various places that they faked the footprints. I can understand that they want it to be impressive, but it's rather sneeky.
Actually, it looked like that one guy was just pushing the weights out of the way. o.o
...What the hell have we been feeding our Olypiads this year, we are getting medals outside of boats and actually made it onto the board for a sprint.
Something is wrong :foldsarms:
Michael Phelps won all eight golds this year.
That guy is insane.
Yea...Phelps...is frickin' mad.
I can't imagine how proud Phelps' mother must be. He's gonna go down as one of the greatest athletes of all time, and getting to see it happen was just awesome. That guy is a beast.
Also holy crap @ how much China is owning in terms of gold medals
Ha, seriously China has more golds than most countries have in total.
Michael Phelps will go down in history as the greatest olympian of all time (and rightfully so), with a record-breaking total of 14 gold medals. He also shows no signs of quitting, as he has vowed that he will once again compete as an olympian in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. China has also done excellently in this year's Summer Olympics as far as earning gold medals is concerned, but keep in mind that China has BY FAR the most Olympic athletes representing it.
Including 14-year-olds. Those damn kids.
Including 14-year-olds. Those damn kids.
HEY NOW! That's not fair SX!
... One of them is at least eight!
