Don't know if this has been done, so don't flame me if it has.

Everybody should remember this show. :spin
Write you humble opinions.

This show had their own hilarious jokes, satirical stories, funny songs, three adorable siblings who's soul purpose is to annoy everyone. I hope it airs again. :(

Last time it was seen on tv was on Nicktoons with horrible edits.

Now DVDs are out and they aren't going to show it again.

If you are lucky you might be able to catch episodes on youtube.

Animaniacs was some of the best times in my childhood, right when I'd come home from school, and sit down to watch TV. First there would be Batman, and then Animaniacs. <3 Much love.

Animaniacs indeed! I was actually just thinking of it the other day, and I have fond memories.

I have some friends who say Tiny Toons was better, and no disrespect to Tiny Toons but I think Animaniacs was a much better cartoon. I need to get my hands on the DVDs one of these days

Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain are the pinnacle of 90's cartoons.

Sure, they are funny for kids... But there is SO much adult humor in them. My dad and I LOVED these series. I've got PatB Vol 2 on DVD, and have burned Animaniacs Vol 1 =)...

I would like to know why the DS game is so flipping difficult! The GameCube one is fine, albeit annoyingly slow when you're used to playing Sonic. They got the original voice actors too - I could listen to Yakko, Wakko & Dot all day in that game :D Plus any villain who quotes Hannibal from the A-Team is due respect.

Back to the DVDs, they also rock. I have volumes 1 & 2; I think 3 is due out this summer. They get funnier as they go along - and the plus side is that they are uncut, as far as I can tell. So bits that have never aired in the UK (or only on Cartoon Network after 9pm) can now be seen in all their glory. Yay!

Animaniacs was the last great cartoon show. It was smart, witty, had great classic animation, wonderfully acted characters, and even had the balls to poke fun at politics and its own in Hollywood in a way David Spade could only dream of - and in a way only grown-ups could appreciate. A lot of jokes were carefully crafted go right over the heads of youngsters in an attempt to reach their parents. I didn't realize until rewatching some episodes how 'adult' some of the jokes really were; I doubt any other Saturday morning show would even try some of the stuff that they did. I'd like to think that if not for the Anime Invasion, more shows would have been made like this.

Were any of you like me and tried to memorize and sing that infamous Yakko's World song that many years ago? Still impresses me to this day.

That's really all I can remember off the top of my head in the beginning. I also know parts of Asia and Europe, but... meh... I do have the Presidents song pretty much memorized though (We had an extra credit opportunity in my old 7th grade History class. This was really my saving grace. xD)

...

Norway and Sweden and Iceland and Finland and Germany, now in one piece, Switzerland, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Turkey, and Gree-- *is shot repeatedly* X_x

Man, I loved the hell out of that show as a kid.

Unlike most of today's cartoons, it didn't bore adults either. Most of today's cartoons (lookin' at you, Cartoon Network. F**k you and your adoption of all of Disney's REJECTS $%@*#%$) just suck. 🙁

Ah, the amount of times I've got an answer in the pub quiz because I know "Wakko's America"... Also the amount of times I've had a friend text me going "Quick, what's the state capital of Montana?" or some such :)

Last work's pub quiz we had, the quiz master deliberately included a US state question and a President of the USA question. Yay! :D

I have the first two volumes on DVD (thank you Warner Brothers!) and I think the third's out quite soon.

I also have most of the CDs that were available - I think I'm still missing a couple though, because I *need* to get a legit copy of "Macadamia".

Sing along with me...

"Donde que vas a Nintendo, Macadamia? Hola, que pasa, you grande sack of grain-ia. Qui a coupe le fromage? We abstain-ia, OY MACADAMIA!"

I didn't mind it, but I vastly preferred Tiny Toon Adventures.

Animaniacs started well, but for me - like a lot of gag-after-gag series - starting running out of steam very quickly. Most of the characters and plotlines, although admittedly in a self-conscious kind of way, werevery simple and formulaic, and just couldn't come up with enough variation fter a while to even enjoy anticipating what the trick would be this time.

Then there was the obsession with being oh-so-subversive and naughty by piling in as many lowest common denominator bodily function jokes as possible (eg. The Great Wakkarotti or Potty Emergency).

And at the exact opposite extreme was the fact that the writers either didn't seem to know who they were writing for, or else just came across as writing for themselves and trying to show how clever they were. If parents were likely to wince at the contents described in the above paragraph, just what relevance did elements like West Side Pigeons (in fact, the whole concept of the Goodfeathers, which strikes me as about as understandable as marketing Alien v. Predator merchandise to the same demographic) or Les Miseranimaux have to their kids?

Then there was the grindingly Americentric compulsory "edutainment" content (which admittedly, had its uses :)).

I know that in some ways it was trying to transcend being pigeonholed into a demographic, but what it often came across as to me was random and patchy.

There's lots of it that I'd probably appreciate more today and I'm not saying that I totally dislike it - but I've never viewed it was the great seminal classic that it often seems to be described as.

I remember the show kicking major tail and the Genesis game being pretty fun (but HARD. Hey, I was young). I never cared for the Pinky and the Brain parts, they deprived me of more Animaniacs...

I'm in two minds about Animaniacs.

If I'm in the right mood, and it comes on, then I'll quite happily sit there and laugh my foxy socks off.

Sometimes though, it just seems like a rather cobbled together string of slapstick and poorly attempted satire.

Having said that, it's not very often that I don't enjoy a bit of Pinky and the Brain, and the Goodfeathers always appealed to me for some reason I'll probably never know!

Would I buy it on DVD? Probably not. Do I watch it if it's on TV? More than likely, but then I'm a bit of a cartoon junkie! :)

I believe that this is as close as I can get to the lyrics. If I am wrong, please correct me:

It's time for Animaniacs,
and we're sainy to the max,
so sit down and relax,
you'll laugh till you callaps,
we're Animaniacs!

Come join the Warner Brothers,
and their Warner sister Dot.
Just for fun we run around the Warner movie lot,
they lock us in the tower, whenever we get caught,
but then we break lose and find ourselves wandering around the movie lot.

We're Animaniacs.
Dot is cute, and Yakko yacks.
Wacko packs up with the snacks,
while the musican plays the sax,
we're Animaniacs!

The Pinky and the Brain would like to rule the universe,
the Goodfeathers stick together while Slappy wacks them with her purse,
Buttons chases Mindy, while Rita sings her verse,
we have no script so why do the writers bother to rehearse.

We're Animaniacs,
we have paid and played contracs,
we're sainy the the max,
there's bologna(boloney) in our slacks,
We're animainy, totally insainy,
(Something random that ends in 'ainy')
We're A-ni-ma-ni-acs.
Those' are' the' facts.

Sam, on your third paragraph - That was part of the points made in the first page; while most kids would find The Goodfeathers to be a more boring part, it may have appealed more to the parents, which, unlike today's cartoons, the Animaniacs actually did.

I think one of the best things about the show was the awesome music. Fully orchestrated <3

Should be as follows (I have the DVD set N_n)

It's time for Animaniacs,
and we're zany to the max,
so sit back and relax,
you'll laugh till you collapse,
we're Animaniacs!

Come join the Warner Brothers,
and their Warner sister Dot.
Just for fun we run around the Warner movie lot,
they lock us in the tower, whenever we get caught,
but we break lose and then vamoose and now you know the plot

We're Animaniacs.
Dot is cute, and Yakko yaks.
Wacko packs away the snacks,
while Bill Clinton plays the sax,
we're Animaniacs!

Meet Pinky and the Brain who want to rule the universe,
Goodfeathers flock together, Slappy whacks'em with her purse,
Buttons chases Mindy, while Rita sings her verse,
The writers flipped, we have no script, why bother to rehearse?

We're Animaniacs,
we have pay-or-play contracts,
we're zany the the max,
there's baloney in our slacks,
We're animanee, totally insane-y,
(Something random that ends in 'ainy')
A-ni-ma-ni-acs!
Those' are' the' facts.

Those are basically the offical lyrics... Unless the telepromter people screwed up =

Sounds like the teleprompter people were right for a change. When it first came on, the Closed Captions were wrong and said "pay-for-play" - 'cos, to be fair, that's what it sounded like.

Fear the Animaniacs geek!

Subtitles are always amusing though. I'll never forget ITV's attempts at writing "Clampett Corneal Catastrophe" and "Friz Frizzle" in Tiny Toons, without having any idea who Bob Clampett and Friz Freleng were...

Did you not spot the double entendres in Animaniacs? :) I particularly liked the end of an exchange:

"Well, I never!"
"Well, you should, it's fun."

I always did like Slappy. I loved it when the only way the Warner siblings could get rid of their new Nanny was to set Slappy on her, because Slappy had no morals and needed no invitation to be violent against anyone :)

Beethoven (or whoever): I AM A PIANIST!
Yakko: The things they say on kids' shows these days.

Thw Warner Siblings were 50/50 funny. Often boring, often screaming laughter. (Odd Note: Does anybody remember one of the last episodes of Tiny Toons about Buster & Babs rescuing some 1920's cartoon stars from the Warner Bros. vault, who look suspiciously like the Warner Siblings, who then go on to become stars and steal their jobs?) Oh, and I liked the ridiculous humor, thankyouverymuch. Come on, it's Wakko burping a symphony!

Pinky and the Brian were bleepin hilarious. They worked MUCH better in cartoon short format than the half-hour Pinky and the Brain series, though. Usually the insanity of their plot was the best source of comedy, which means it's funnier the shorter it is. By far the best part of the show. After they spun it into an independent series Animaniacs only had the repetitive one-joke skits as backup to the Warner Siblings.

I laughed at Goodfeathers the first time, chuckled the next, and then it just wasn't funny because it was always the same joke about Pesto going crazy. Maybe if I'd seen the movie it was based on, it might be funny as a satire, but to a person who isn't familiar with the movie (like 99% of the audience), it was repetitive (like every other skit on the show not about the Warner Siblings or Pinky and the Brain).

Chicken Boo, probably the most one-joke skit, somehow managed to be funny most of the time anyway. This is just proof that chickens are naturally funny, especially when they have a theme song and absurd disguises.

I didn't like Slappy because I rarely like slapstick.

The other skits, like Buttons & Mindy and Rita & Runt, just had me going WHY? Never funny in the first place, and even less funny as recurring skits. I think those were just in there to use air time, especially since they got over-long repeating intros. There were maybe OCCASIONS where some of them had a joke, but Rita & Runt didn't even seem to be trying to be funny or have a point.

(@darkwinguk)

I thought Rita & Runt were there because Bernadette Peters wanted a job.

The Goodfeathers weren't funny to me and I wasn't actually a big fan of Pinky & the Brain - aside, perhaps, from the one where they're trying to steal a dragon's toenails and Pinky can't find rhymes.

That's the beauty of the DVDs though - skip past the boring stuff, go straight to the characters you like. And pump up the surround sound when they start singing "The Senses", or "Macadamia" or "Wakko's America".

Slappy in "Bumbie's Mom" was a riot as far as I was concerned :)

The TTA characters you are thinking of are the Two-Tones - Foxy, Roxy and (I think) Goopy Gear. "We're two-toned, we're looney, we're wacky, silly, goony, and do you like our ears and butts better up or down? Let's go to Two-Tone Town!"

I liked the one with Bosko & Honey, although I've often wondered how the Warners managed to stay young if no one ever saw their cartoons to laugh at them...

Reviving this topic for it's greatness.

Anyway, I was reading Wiki about Animaniacs and came across the reason for it's cancellation. Listen to this:

Quote:

"Kids WB" Era: Episodes 70-99
The series was popular enough for Warner Bros. Animation to invest in additional episodes of Animaniacs past the traditional 65-episode marker for syndication. Animaniacs premiered on the new "Kids' WB" line-up on September 9, 1995, and new episodes were aired until 1998. During this time, the show's popular cartoon characters Pinky and the Brain, were subsequently spun-off from Animaniacs into their own TV series in 1995. While on "Kids' WB", Animaniacs gathered over one-million children viewers every week. [25] However, Animaniacs was also successful in an unintended way, bringing in many adult viewers and viewers outside the "Kids WB" target demographic of very small children. [42] This unintended result of many adult viewers and not enough very young viewers put pressure on the WB Network from advertisers and caused dissatisfaction from the WB network towards Animaniacs. [42] Slowly, orders from the WB for more Animaniacs episodes dwindled and Animaniacs made it through a couple more short seasons, relying on leftover scripts and storyboards. [31][42] Finally, in 1998, Animaniacs was canceled by the WB, led by executive Jamie Kellner, who has also been held responsible for the cancellations of Freakazoid! and Pinky and the Brain. [44] Animaniacs was ended one episode short of its 100th episode, having which is a milestone in television. Afterwards, Animaniacs segments were being shown along with segments from other cartoons as part of The Cat&Birdy Warneroonie PinkyBrainy Big Cartoonie Show. [45] On December 21, 1999 a direct-to-video movie starring the Warners, titled Wakko's Wish, was released. [25]

Wiki's link can be found here.
After reading this, I thought that it was a pretty much an unessecary reason for it's cancellation.
