Yeah, I saw that on Fox, and silly guy, doesn't he know a white hole is different from a black hole in that it spews out matter rather than sucking it in? Oh, plus I find it hilarious about what he said with Angel and Devil food cakes!
African American hole?
I'm open to other names for black holes, let's call them Vistas or something
Well, glory be, it's CloudedHorizon. Now there's a name I haven't seen in awhile! How ya doin?
A black hole is called as such because that's what it appears as, no light being able to escape preventing it from having any other form.
It's not coined as a negative name, like with Black Sheep. Quite frankly, if you think the word black makes something racist then you are far too eager to be offended, the intent behind a statement is really what makes the difference.
But black sheep exist. They're relatively rare and unusual, hence the term. If you're the black sheep of the family, it's cos you're different to the rest of them.

^We know that. We're not (as) idiotic like those guys.
What are they worried about, they're brown.
Only in America.
Black hole, white hole... they're all quantum singularity on the inside.
Some time ago I went to the discussion page of Shadow the Hedgehog on Wikipedia... only to find a huge topic started by some guy who changed Shadow's description to "african-american hedgehog", claiming his game gave "definite proof" that he had african roots or something. >>"
...are'nt they the african type of hedgehog anyway?
...and does'nt race only apply to HYOOMINS? (Though I DO think Knuckles would be black if he had a race...)
It doesn't matter since Shadow's an ALIEN.
" 'SUP GUYS"
It offends me
Just like when someone mentions the word monkey in my presense, it is just as offensive. Don't be so quick to write something off as not being offensive.
The same can be said for writing something off as offensive.
If a word offends you then you should think about why it does. Black hole and monkey aren't offensive words, they have their intended purpose and shouldn't be taken offensively when they're used for their purposes. However, I'm not going to say they can't be offensive, but that depends on the intent and the sentence structure. Almost anything can be used to be offensive, and if bigots stop using one word they'll start using another, and if this can build up to longer pool of words to avoid, and make language more and more complicated.
We aren't allowed to say blackboard and whiteboard anymore because this can be deemed as offensive, but why? Both describe inanimate objects with no feelings to hurt, the terminology doesn't make one out to be better or worse than the other, all it does is point out the difference. Now, you could say that that is why it had to be changed, but changing their names doesn't stop from pointing out the difference, it just points it out without the colour.
To add, difference shouldn't be something to hide, yet that's how things seem to be pushed. Discrimination because of difference is the part that should be offensive.
Sorry to rant...I'll keep it in Marble Garden next time.
wait... what? We can't say blackboard anymore?
From what I remember from school (and working there recently too), nope. It's Chalkboard and Wipeboard now. Or at least that's what the teachers had to say.
Sorry Robo but my above post was drenched in sarcasm...
So yea...what about white dwarfs and brown dwarfs. They should get in on this too. =P

Ah...sorry... text can be hard to pick up on.
*has been ranting a lot elsewhere lately...probably all the coffee...and early mornings*
wow, even my colour pencils are racist.. >>;
Hm, I wonder what fan fav Final Boss theme "Wrapped In Black" is trying to say? How about Eggman NEGA? Doesn't NEGA sound awefully similar to something else when taken out of context?
