Yeah, I know, a lot of movies based on books are awful, but some are really quite good.
Right now I'm reading The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde, and I think it would make a decent movie, but it's a bit thick with high-brow literary references that are central to the plot and might confuse viewers that aren't particularly well-read.
Of course, like many, I'd like to see JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit done as a movie that fits alongside Peter Jackson's LotR movies.
I would also like to see Douglas Adams's Dirk Gently's Hollistic Detective Agency made as a movie. I know that the last Douglas Adams movie was a bit "meh," but since this book isn't as big as Hitchhiker's Guide it might decrease Hollywoodization.
Well, how about you all?
I'd like to see the novel Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk turned into a movie. I mean, the movie Fight Club was a great adaption of the novel, and I think Survivor would work well. I really can't think of any others aside from other Palahniuk (because he's all I've been reading lately) books, but Survivor is on the top of the list.
Hmmm... Good idea Dirk!
-Snow Crash... It is BEGGING to be made into a movie.
- The Giver Trilogy (The Giver, Gathering Blue, amd The Messenger)- another Perfect movie series. Start out the Giver in black and white... Then BOOM little color here, a little there.
-A Wizard of Earhtsea... Actually, I think someone in Japan is starting this one.
-Have Space Suit, Will Travel by Robert Heinlein
-Ringworld by Larry Niven
-The rest of the Hitchhiker's Guide series.
I wouldn't mind seeing one of Tom Clancy's novels. I'm not picky towards which.
I'm a firm believer that too much gets lost in translation to make most adaptations viable - but if I have to make a choice, it's Philip Reeve's Hungry Cities series.
CGI a-go-go, but strong characters, not too much internal monologuing and room for some truly War of the Wolds-esque set pieces.
Even if Hollywood could never let the series through without changing the ending. 🙁
World War Z.
Pretty much anything with "Tom Clancy" on it, except maybe the Net Force series, which is a bit more into the character's heads than would show in a movie. And that'd kinda kill it.
