Also, Winston Churchill was fake.
Guess your general public's as stupid as ours, eh Britain?
In before Creo having a fit at what you just said
Quote:
Three percent thought Charles Dickens, one of Britain's most famous writers, is a work of fiction himself.
WHAT THE DICKENS?
Thought, or wished he was a work of fiction?
*has a fit about it in place of Creo*
I don't know who on earth they polled, but I do not know a single person who's that thick. Honestly?! A quarter?! I think the chances are I'd at least know someone who thinks like that with those odds.
The only logical explanation for this is that they conducted this poll at the Big Brother auditions.
Hey, if other countries get to taunt America's general public for lack of common knowledge, then we get to turn around and mock them for their lack of common knowledge.
I think this poll goes to prove one concrete indisputable fact: the average person anywhere is really really stupid.
Indeed. Embarrasingly so =(
The survey was done by UKTV Gold. There my friends is your reason why.
charles dickins, a fake? *laughs* half my home town's streets are named after characters or books of his.
Wow, I don't feel so embarrassed about this country now. It's not just Americans, it's just people in general that are stupid as hell.

UKTV Gold television surveyed 3,000 people.
There you have it folks, the target demographic of UKTV gold that were surveyed are morons or groups of students with free time decided to have a laugh and mess around with the said survey (just as likely).
Quote:
Britons polled, believe Sherlock Holmes was real
*see modified subject* Also what makes you think that those surveyed were British? hmm?
"The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter."
-Winston Churchill
Well, the people who made StarTropics 2 apparently thought Sherlock Holmes was real.
That is, at least you meet him in a time-traveling adventure that supposedly only takes you to times and places in the real history of Earth - but then again they included King Arthur and Merlin too, and the game was based on a short series where you play a baseball pitcher whose uncle is an archaeologist on some islands.
........Wow.
We should sell these guys some swampland in Florida. Who's with me?
It's interesting, some of our UK residents responded to this the same way the US resident do when something about us like this is posted.
I'm guessing UKTV GOLD is somewhat akin to UK FOX News?

Well I am quite the patriot I guess
And not really, UKTV GOLD is just repeats of shows from the BBC among other stations. Oh and lots of Antiques Roadshow. Funtimes.
So like a nation-wide OETA? hehe.
Either way my faith in my own country would have been less sour if it wasn't evident I'm one of only two people I know of NOT voting for freaking Hillary "I hate civil liberties" Clinton.

I really want to argue against this "poll," Unfortunatly, of the five people in my house, I'm fairly sure the guy who we had to clarify what a parsnip was, would fall under the daft voters catagories here.
*Le sigh*

I believe AR went onto one of the other UKTV channels, and anything else that's decent is on Dave. UKTV GOLD is full of old Eastenders so yeah.

Count me as the third guy.
They must not watch the Dave channel in the UKTV list, that has QI, thus meaning we learn too!
But seriously....I'm not actually surprised. I complain about the stupidity of the general public of this city everyday. Also considering how many people I meet who prove common sense isn't all that common....well...yeah...
Sherlock Holmes isn't real?
=O
I love it. Some folk thought Biggles existed. If only!
I would be interested in the demographic of that survey, mind. Too bad there aren't more details. I mean, Sherlock Holmes was supposedly at least vaguely based on a real-life person; and there are many myths that have risen around Richard the Lionheart, although he did exist.
DW
Actually, I haven't met any Democrat not voting for Obama.

Sherlock Holmes: I do believe you've wandered into the wrong topic, dear SX.
I like how the Brits are trying to defend themselves. Just accept your stupidity like we do.
But we produced DangerMouse! How can we have fallen so far?!
DW
Oh no, a topic with my hillary bashing is still around. *eats words with a side of fava beans*

UGH.
Her accent makes it all the more awful.
God, it looked like even Jeff Foxworthy just wanted to curl into a ball and weep for our country.
You know, I really don't think we should get into a "Who's stupider" argument, cause there's no way it'll end well. 😛
you get idiots everywhere, the entire world over. i don't see where the arguement is. ^^
