At least if what happened to TV Links becomes precedent.

Basically, TV Links - run by a 26-year-old guy in Cheltenham - has been shut down by British authorities for linking to illegal content. TV Links didn't host any of the content; it just linked to it. Guy gets arrested, and the author of this piece enjoys following the logic of the reason for shutting down TV Links.

I kind of agree with him, actually. Why not go after Youtube, Google Videos, or any of this other video services that actually HOST the illegal content? This guy got arrested for just linking to it. Does that mean the makers of Google should be arrested for linking to illegal content?

Heck, just by linking to this story, I'm linking to a site that links to Youtube, which links to illegal content. Therefore, I just broke copyright law! :crazy

Have fun. :cuckoo

Well, at least "The site that ryhmes with Hemonoid" is still running. You'd think a site which links me to download and keep episodes of TV shows, movies, comics, music and everything else would be shut down first.

I'd like to see the outcome of this action, I doubt it can stick.

Indeed I avoided "Site that embraces a noid" because I thought they'd shut it down. But I eventually gave in, that and one of our resident moose jockey's was kind enough to invite me. o.o

Don't mourn too much, though. Searching Stage6, YouTube, Veoh and such isn't THAT hard.

Just more time consuming.

...I think I'd better start searching for Heroes now if I expect to watch it before going home today.

On a related note: it seems as though the UK police're generally getting serious when it comes to copyright at the moment.

According to the register the tv-links guy was arrested because of "trademark laws"

Quote:

Gloucestershire police have confirmed that a 26-year-old Cheltenham man at the centre of an investigation into the website TV-Links was arrested under section 92 of the Trade Mark Act, on suspicion of supplying property with a registered trademark, without permission.

also,

The man has not been charged with any offence, and has been released pending further investigation.
