The point is that you can have your view, other people can have theirs and in this forum it is possible to agree to disagree, without implying that anyone who disagrees with you is a candidate for reporting to the RSPCA. Equally, when people refuse to back down on their views, it doesn't mean that they haven't considered your view point and it doesn't mean that they're telling you to go away.
Back on topic, re Craig's point: Cats don't make a mess - incorrect. Cats make a terrible mess, they just don't do it in *your* garden or your flat. They like to do it in your neighbours' property
For me, it's dogs all the way. I don't care how intelligent or otherwise a furry companion of mine would be, what I would like is something big & fluffy to scare off door to door salesmen, to warm up my feet in the evening and just to be there if I've had a bad day. Attention seeking is a good thing. Having said that, we haven't had a dog in my family since I was about 2 years old, so all my experience is with other people's pets. And I live by myself, so no dog for me, unless I win the lottery and don't have to work.
Therefore, there is always the possibility I might succumb to the local cats & dogs home's black cat, named Salem. But to be honest, it would be a fair amount of work & expense for a second best pet, so maybe I won't!
