John Forsythe, best-known for his role as Blake Carrington on Dynasty, and the voice of Charlie on Charlie’s Angels, passed away on Thursday, April 1, after a battle with cancer. He was 92.

“He was 92 years old and, thankfully, he died as he lived his life
... with dignity and grace, after a year-long struggle with cancer,” a
statement from his family said.

The veteran actor passed away in Santa Ynez, Calif., northwest of
Los Angeles, after having struggled through a bout of pneumonia.

Forsythe’s career spanned more than five decades, starting in New
York City in such Broadway plays as the Pulitzer Prize-winning Teahouse of the August Moon, and on live TV shows like Studio One.

Born John Lincoln Freund on Jan. 29, 1918, in Penns Grove, N.J.,
Forsythe’s is family moved to New York City, where his father was a
stockbroker. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, but dropped out after three years because of a successful summer
job as an announcer for the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field. People
liked his voice so much that he easily moved into radio acting.

His first credited movie appearance was as a sailor in Destination Tokyo (1943), starring Cary Grant. That same year he was in the ensemble of Winged Victory,
Moss Hart’s Broadway tribute to the United States Army Air Forces, the
military’s aviation branch during Second World War, in which Forsythe
served.

In television, Forsythe starred in three failed sitcoms before he became the voice of the mysterious Charlie in Charlie’s Angels. The hit ‘70s show starred the late Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith as butt-kicking detectives.

Forsythe’s association with Aaron Spelling lead to his iconic role as Blake Carrington on the primetime soaper Dynasty, for which he scored two best actor Golden Globes.

Forsythe is survived by his wife, Nicole, son, two daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He (and his voice) will be missed.
