Okay. So, it seems the entire Haruhi reairing "season 2" debackle was just to build up hype and publicity for the 2010 adaption of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (AKA: The best damn book in the series), a feature length movie.
Already the internet rumor mills are turning, regarding the project. Many assuming the season 1 director who wasn't involved in "season 2" will be helming the project and some evidence showing that it's been in the works since as early as 2007, which would explain the major delay in the show's revival and why the constant trolling has been happening. I'm really excited for this since for some reason I kept hearing Season 2 was going to have the Disappearance.
Still trying to figure how I'm going to watch this while not waiting for the dub.
Can anybody here fill me in about what Haruhi is, and if I wanted to get into the series where I should start?
The best description I've found is:
Haruhi is the story of God.
If God was a 15 year old psychotic Japanese school girl with no idea that she was God. She unconciously dreams up the world we live in.
She believes in Aliens, Time Travellers and Psychics... so because she does, they exist, but if she KNEW they exist the world would change, as God knows that they exist rather than believes.
The protagonist is a guy called Kyon who is a normal human and dragged into the crazy world because his presence sparked Haruhi to create a club designed to "save the world by overflowing it with fun"
This is very literal, because the great danger is, if she gets bored with the world. She will destroy it and create it anew.
Superb series. Superb characters and yes it's kinda hentai in the way one character is 85% fanservice.
I'd advise starting with Episode 1 and moving up from there. I started in the US DVD order (all but episode 00 is in chronological order).
Honestly, I've yet to find an anime series that I like better than Haruhi. Creative premise, memorable characters, engaging story. It has a great mix of comedy and adventure.
Abac: Although I am waiting for the US release, I'll still watch the subbed version of this movie. I waited on season 2 as long as I could, but in the end I decided to download the subs.
Can anybody here fill me in about what Haruhi is, and if I wanted to get into the series where I should start?
I first watched it on Youtube, don't do that though. Its really hard to find every episode easily. There's alot of anime websites around, just google something in. It might be under "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" or "Suzumiya Haruhi no yuutsu" either one works. I hope you enjoy the series as much as me, its something thats really stuck to me.
