My Keyboard is... messed up. After it got a bit of water in it (nothing major-20 seconds of rain, don't ask how.)

The Keyboard works in the sense that it's operational. However, most Keys will trigger a wild string of characters that you can't see because of awesome editing on my part.

a=q`a
d=ed
p=p-;/
n=u6jn
r=r5fb
SPACE=

See what I mean? Not all Keys are buggy though.

A friend of mine told me that it shouldn't be permanent but I thought I'd ask you guys.

If it means anything, my laptop is old.

Also this entire message took an hour to edit and clean up.

did you let your laptop dry out properly? i kept mine turned off for two days and upside down on a towel when it had a sudden tea bath a while ago and it was fine. o.o;

You could also try taking the keys off to make sure everything is dry underneath. They should be able to come off.

Okay I bought a usb keyboard since the laptop seemed dried out and it was still doing the same things.

@Lighty the keys don't easily pop off on this laptop, at least not for me.

i don't know enough about computers to really support what i'm about to say, but you could've caused damage by using your laptop while it was still wet. oo; still, glad you've got a USB keyboard now!

think i'll go for a desktop the next time i'm able to buy something, mine is far too old too. plus it's easier to fix when things attack the keyboard. >>;

Yeah looks like sadly the only way to truely fix it would mean replacing the keyboad which would cost too much. Some may remember Koogle :D

^ I still have an piccie someone made of Koogle.

I had something similar happen, but I was able to dry it out quick enough before any damage was done. A few of the keys still stick occasionally though.

You tried an external keyboard and it was still doing it?

I'd GUESS it's a short from the water damage and you're up you-know-who's creek and Crimmy just ate your paddles. That means because it's a laptop, which is now a throwaway piece of hardware thanks to netbooks, you trash it and buy a new one.

The usb keyboard works fine, it's just the keyboard on the original laptop is scrappy.

Also I'd probably break a netbook if I tried typing on it. I've got huge hands AND I type fairly fast. Don't think a netbook would last very long :crazy

Why am I being blamed for this?

Honestly, you destroy laptops just once due to beer spillage and suddenly everybody blames you for eating their creek escape assistance devices.

Anyway, yeah if it's what happened to mine, it's likely that your laptop keyboard can be saved if you take it apart and clean it with rubbing alcohol or such, but with a laptop, it's so much effort despair your better off getting a new one.

New keyboard pieces or just cleaning the internals should work then. Provided you don't let lord hotboxers near it.

erm, my laptop had an accident involving beer. >->; what's recommended for cleaning the keys? i have a good amount of q-tips and rubbing alcohol. i have no tools or knowledge of taking laptops apart, so don't want to risk that. think a few drops of the beer may have gone into the vent on the side, but i dried the darn thing as best i could and it's been turned off for a day and a half now.
