Okay, so I've been hearing lately that several people have gotten viruses from DA.  I think that last night, I joined that group.  Does anyone know if it's the site itself or the ads that have the virus?

Also, is there another art site hasn't had as many problems as DA?

As far as I know, the admins of DA are in the midst of fixing it. I have no idea if they did as I haven't heard news on said virus in a while (than again, you getting struck last night might prove otherwise). I think I was struck by it a month or so back, but that could be from another source for all I know. I don't think it's the ads though, I'm a subscribed member and still had it happened to me (subscribed members do not have ads shown). From what I heard, it was an outside source who did all this - I forgot if he was a member or just a hacker - so it's more or less outside from DA who's causing problems to it.

Well, now I'm paranoid about going there. I had to do a system restore to get rid of it, since my anti-virus didn't pick it up.

Hrmph, people who do things like that need to be banned from the internet.

If you use Firefox, get Ad Block Plus. For extra protection, get No Script. Hope that helps you in the future. D:

dA being popular, it gets divebombed with infected ads every so often.

Not dA's fault but it still sucks.

I can testify to the efficacy of AdBlock Plus.  It's easy to use and adaptable so that you can unblock certain things that you need to.  I've been checking DA almost every day for a long time now, and haven't had a problem, so it may have been some kind of ad problem.  Or maybe I'm just lucky.

Granted, if you use a different browser, you'd have to find another solution if it doesn't have something similar to ABP available.

I do have Firefox. How do I use Ad Block Plus? I've heard it mentioned at other boards, but I've never messed around with it.

Kay. I have it. Can I tell it which sites to block ads from, or do I actually need to go to the site and do it?

Thankies for the link, Hiro.

Pretty sure it defaults to BLOCK ALL AAJLKAKJQWJJFAEJWJ and once you get to the site you can tell it to allow certain ads

Yay! Though it'll be a bit before I get brave enough to traverse DA again.

Actually, you can subscribe to a block list. It should have shown a popup menu to that effect, the first time it loads. Easy List is a good one to use and will block pretty much every common ad system.

In that case it should already be working.

Watch a video on YouTube to confirm.
