So, those of us keeping up with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 probably don't even want to let the world know that they are, (or were, at this point) fans - at least not at this point. How many of you are sick and freakin' tired of that Endless Eight hoopla?
Me too, duders. Me too. The good news, is that we are reaching episode 9, which would be episode 8 of the Endless Eight arc. This should be the last magical episode were Kyon finally DOES HIS GOD DAMN HOMEWORK, but we'll see. They've been jerking us around so bad. I wouldn't doubt that the first 20 minutes of this episode is the same like the last seven, except the last five minutes probably fixes the stupid time loop. Oh man, I'm going to be so pissed if that's so.
So, my fellow MoFoers, after this, are you going to keep watching? Or have you already stopped watching? Inquiring minds want to know, (namely, just me).
[Spoileroonies - highlight to read]
To those that have no freakin' clue what's going on: Haruhi season 2 starts off normally with the first episode. The second episode begins with "the gang" of the SOS Brigade going through a list of things to do with the last two weeks of summer vacation so their time doesn't go to waste - but before I continue on, the whole point of the show is that this girl, Haruhi, is pretty much an all powerful, controlling GOD. Yes, this little high school freshman, is god herself, but she does not know it, but her little friends do, and they will forever be her friends and keep her from knowing before she throws a temper tantrum and DESTROYS THE WORLD.
She's also, still, a teenager looking to have fun.
With that said, she's had such a blast this summer, that she doesn't want it to end. So what happens? She subconsciously RESETS THOSE TWO WEEKS of HER LIFE over 9,000 times! (15,500 times, to be more accurate). That's about 600 years of the same crap over and over again, stuck in an infinite loop with the exact same actions over and over again - and everyone is oblivious to it, only receiving "deja vu" signals from their minds which slowly lets them figure out that, hey, Haruhi's got them in a time loop! (Though they've never been able to figure out by the end of the episode).
Now take that knowledge, and REPEAT IT 7 TIMES. FOR THIRTY MINUTES.
Yeah. Best. Season. Ever. </sarcasm>
Hard to imagine there are still people who tolerate this garbage. They are delusional and should be put out of their misery.
I just want it to move on. Is that so much to ask?! D=
You unfortunately should know the answer to that!
I just think it's the company/studio's answer to shutting up all the Haruhi fans.
"You want more?! Here's some more, then, you freakin' bastards!"
Yay. It's over. Sighs next week. Disappearance next season.
A holes. A HOLES. They actually went eight episodes with Endless Eight. WOW, dudeskis. Wow.
I'ma watch that shnitz right now.
Well Kyoani already had the otaku crowd in their back pocket with K-On (And may heaven have mercy on your soul for watching THAT) so hey, why not?
Then again they have been trolling Haruhidom pretty hard, what's the harm in MORE trolling! Completely aware that everyone will buy this season because of it will have the Disappearance of Haruhi and everyone wants THAT!
I never made it past Remote Island Syndrome. Just wasn't interesting enough, and the chronology of the series confuses the hell out of me. I've been hearing about this arc for weeks at various boards; doesn't really make me want to try to pick it up again. Though I did like the episode where they were making a movie.

N'ah. Unlike other fans, I don't follow the mangas or mini novels or whatever the hell you wanna call it, I just watch the show, so I have no clue what Disappearance is - I'm guessing she goes missing.
I can't say I know what K-On is, and with this stunt, I'm not sure I care. As for the DVD, hahahahhaha, good luck trying to sell that. I sure as hell am not buying it. The only way they can make me buy it is if they pull it off for the comedy gold. One disc with all the Endless Eight episodes, without the 8th one. It should be like 5 episodes of that, and then when you hit Bonus Features, it's the other two episodes, and it NEVER FINISHES. I'd buy that and give it to a friend as a gag gift. But like I hell am I buying the next season.
I heard from somewhere that the original creator apparently APOLOGIZED to his fans at some con in Japan recently.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqy8x-zKuKw for the apology.
I can actually see the business stratergy behind this and it all goes back to the decision to make season 1 out of order.
See, they have 14 episodes covering all chronological events in the saga from Melancholy to Live-A-Live. Missing out two short stories and an entire novel. These shorts are Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody, Endless Eight and The Sighs of Haruhi Suzumiya.
Now, given that we have about 5/7 episodes of material there, depending on how thorough you wish to be with Sighs (which is "The Filming of Adventures of Asahina Mikuru 00"), this leaves the suits with a few options.
1. Season 2 out of order. As a lot of it splices between season 1 and the out of order airing was so unpopular that only the original airing and special DVDs have it, I'm fairly sure they thought it unprofitable and started airing in order again.
2. Season 1 with extra episodes to fill gap. Given that the slot would be set from the re-air slot, it would be a matter of stretching the remaining stories into that gap. Hence Endlessly Eighting.
3. Season 1 with extra episodes, not stretching Endless Eight, but putting Disappearance at the end. Ask yourself. If we WANT Disappearance so much. Why have it air at the end of a re-airing.
=
The decision they made, no matter how stupid it appears, is the most reasonable from a marketting perspective. This way when season 2 happens, it will start with THE STORY EVERYONE WANTS. It will make money.
I don't think it's respectful to stretch filler, but they seem to be going out of their way to adapt ALL books and not insert any anime original stories, besides Someday in the Rain which was added to book canon after the fact. ---It's kind of nice in the evil way.
That's all nice and dandy, but to someone who is just a fan of the show, and nothing else - because I have no idea what's coming up next, I have no idea what all these story arcs are, nor have I ever heard of them, nor do I "really want Disappearance NOW!" because I don't know wtf - I don't care. They totally, totally screwed the pooch, and took something that could have been done just fine in 3 episodes, (setup, the problem, the solution), they went out of their way and not only wasted our time, but their advertiser's time and money, (if you didn't notice, their ratings TANNNNNNNKED like nobody's business, and with good reason). 3 episodes would've been fine. That would have been, "oh wow, way to mess with our heads, haha good job, let's get on with it" fun, and acceptable.
They did NOT have to fill it so crazy-style. I have to agree with the panelist in that video, Craigypoo; why would they take something that is a 30 page short story, and drag it on to 4 hours of mind numbing repetitiveness? Rarrrgh blarrrgh yargh and all other sorts of anger and such.
I just read most of that.
... And it STILL doesn't make sense to me! XD
Egads, and here I was, working through a backlog of other series I wanted to finish before getting to Season 2, and this is the news that greets me.
They honestly could have covered something like that in one episode, resetting every three minutes with subtle differences. Guess I'll know what to dodge when I get around to watching.
Long story short for non-fans, they didn't adapt all the episodes they needed in season 1 so couldn't proceed to 2.
Without Bamboo Leaf and Endless Eight they couldn't make Disappearance. So either they could have confused audiences by putting it in a random order during season 2 or just redo season 1 with the correct amount of episodes.
I imagine buying time on TV is not as simple as saying "We need 20 episodes instead of 14 for this re-airing" so they would have been given a number to fill, and with too few to adapt the next story and an almost superstitious fear of making anime original episodes, they stretched Endless Eight.
I'm not saying it's right or fair. But it's what they did. It's easier to remember this is season 1 you're watching.
Also, the final scene of Endless Eight was epic due to Kyon's voice actor, kudos to that guy.
PS: Endless Eight IS bullcrap. They should have just had different events like Nagato says they keep doing. Doing the same thing 8 times was dumb as hell, even if I understand WHY they did it.
I dropped Endless Eight after the third episode of it. After that, I just laughed at the people who let themselves be crushed week-in and week-out.
This was a stupid stupid beyond dumbtarded business decision on their part. They're selling the DVDs for $50-$70, AND THEY'RE ONLY TWO EPISODES PER. That's 4 DVDs of Endless Eight. $200-$280 dollars worth of Endless Eight. The number of people willing to pay that are very few, and DVD sales are gonna tank for Haruhi this time out.
I'm confident that I missed nothing of importance. I missed nothing of importance 7 times.
Besides, with FMA: Brotherhood, Phantom, One Piece, Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Canaan (BEST TAXI DRIVER EVER), my anime plate is pretty solidly filled right now. Not having Haruhi around until it wraps for the season is no biggie at this point.

Can't deny that, that was pretty epic. But MAN, why did he not SLAP HER after she got all crazy. AWGH. Stace and I were just like "SMACK HER! SLAP HER! PUNCH HER IN THE FRACKIN' FACE!!! DOOO IIIIIT!"
And nothing. So much disappointment this season.
I dunno, from an artistic perspective, I loved seeing the different reincarnations of Endless Eight. I admit, I kind of got swept into the "WHEN WILL IT END" crowd, but eh. It kind of reminded me of guest comics and fanart on the professional scale. I like to believe a different person was in charge of the art direction for each episode, so seeing each person's take on it made me happy.
Of course, when Kyon absolutely flipped at the end, I could feel the relief washing over me as the music continued building and building and Haruhi's rage at his audacity reached boiling point.... that was a great moment. It was like... through all of that, we know it's finally coming to an end. And the smile on my face was a mile wide.
Also, I have fun LOL-ing at the people getting so worked up over this. I mean, it's a freaking anime. Are people really that butthurt about it?
~Shadowed Spirit Sage
lol I agree with Sagey... that said I have yet to watch the new subs... does anyone have the specific Youtube links?
so season two is just bits from season one repeated for 8 episodes? oO; that's the impression i'm getting from this thread.
coz will and i had tried to watch an episode of the second season, and i'd somehow seen it already (unless the person had uploaded the wrong episode. it's hard to be sure.)
So, wait, it's finally over?! Done with? I pretty much stopped after the fourth Endless Eight and decided to hold out until all of them aired so I can just skip to the last one. If that's the case, then I can cry out a "FINALLY".
I can get the artistic merit for the arc and the purpose on why they did it; fine, I'll appreciate the unique movement, but I'm not a patient person and it sounds like the plot is finally moving on.
Only for one more five episode story, Remy. And it's all just context for the big giant in-joke that is "Advevntures of Asahina Mikuru 00" So don't get too happy just yet.
That said, assuming they do animate Sighs, which seems the logical step, it will be interesting in seeing this early novel, designed to demonstrate the full extent of Haruhi's world changing ability (and while the author was still trying to find the characters voices), from it's chronological perspective.
Can't deny that, that was pretty epic. But MAN, why did he not SLAP HER after she got all crazy. AWGH. Stace and I were just like "SMACK HER! SLAP HER! PUNCH HER IN THE FRACKIN' FACE!!! DOOO IIIIIT!"
The alternative ending to endless eight is (imo) much better (not really spoilers):
Ah. Eight on its side is ∞. Reading up upon this the creator of this has "balls," that's for sure. Pretty soon you willl all look back upon this and see it as art. Something no one will try to attempt before and again, I doubt any other show could pull something like this off, especially to their viewers.

That... was... AMAZING, I LOVE YOU HAVE MY BABIES!!!!
Heh, I messed up. I was trying to watch Haruhi, and the site I found had the chronological order listed above links to the first and second season. I watched episode two and three in the correct order, and reaching for episode five, I accidentally clicked five from season 2, and found myself smack dab in Endless Eight. And I didn't realize it until I recognized the final scene from creo's video up there. XD Doi.
