My computer can read Japanese text, and that ain't Japanese.

The problem is that your computer doesn't seem to have a Japanese character font set. Fortunately, I've long since installed one. I C&Ped the result of a babel fish translation into wordpad, blew up the font size, and took a screengrab.

The small text at the top is the same as the big text below.

I can't guarantee how accurate it is, as I am not fluent in Japanese. I attempted to paste the plain text here, but it seems EZboard doesn't support Japanese text.

Curiously, heres the result of attempting to translate that back into English with babel fish.

I said in the first post that I tried Babelfish, and it came out weird. Like incorrect English definitions and the like (e.x. even as an adjective instead of an adverb).

Honestly, I've hated BabelFish for reasons like that anyways. It's like you're having your passage translated by a Korean rice picker with a pair of dictionaries! (No offense to any Korean rice pickers out there) I mean, I'm sure everyone has heard the joke that when they translated "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" into Russian and back and got "The vodka is good but the meat is bland" before, right?

Alternate idea: Go hire a personal tutor and speand hundereds of dollars and hours of your life to learn japanese and come out with only being able to say "Where is the toliet?"

I don't think the Japanese language is learnable by non-Asians, much like DDR and Starcraft.

My best friend Aubyn is learning Japanese and he got an 88 on his Japanese Regents (a state exam). And being Puerto Rican/Jamaican/Irish, I'm pretty sure he ain't asian.

Empathy with the culture is more important than race, come ON. Maybe most people just look at the surface and not what lies underneath when it comes to Japanese culture. It's all wierd anime clichs, harajuku outfits, and other stereotypes. Of course, if you actually cared about the country....

Perhaps, but then wouldn't it be stupid to only do something halfway? And you can learn kana in practically a fortnight or even less, so reading isn't so hard, it's just the kanji which is a bit of a hurdle, but even then it takes the japanese up until High School to learn it all so they don't exactly do it overnight either. Personally, I find reading Japanese easier than speaking or listening to it. The japanese speak at like warp-speed, it's no wonder they have l337 DDR skills they're trained like robots from day one.

And also, the japanese suck at learning English just as much as we suck at Japanese, but they get taught it from the start of Primary School so they have no excuse really.

Sorry Spite, but I still say you get what you put into it. If you maintain an interest and a drive to learn something then you'll excel at it. If you find it boring or superficial, you fail. o.o

Which just proves it's easier to learn Japanese than people think. But yeah, I meant the Kanji, unfortunately most manga are mostly written in Kanji! Which is a major pain.

Well yeah, I don't disagree with that. In my Japanese class I've seen the numbers go from around 30 to something like 10-15 students because people come in thinking it'll be just a few lessons before they'll be reading raw yuri manga and playing their loli-witch touching games. I guess some people can't fathom how hard it is, even I anticipated it'd be harder than I could imagine, but as time went on I just adapted it to my day to day life and found ways to make sure learning it doesn't get boring.

For example, I think of learning new kanji as acquiring new Pokemon for my Pokedex. Gotta catch all 2000 of them.

Actually, the matter about the translation's been kinda resolved...^^;;
