I'm no doctor, but "not breathing" and "dead of cancer" can't be good? D:
also: beeb news. for the news.
Well, make that a triple whammy. Ed McMahon, sidekick to Johnny Carson and spokesman for Publishers Clearings House, died 2 days ago as well. Three stars dead in one week, and two of them on the same day; wow!
Normally, I don't like to bad mouth the recently dead, but Ed McMahon is the only one of those three worth mourning.
Only one of the three dead "stars" mentioned in this thread didn't require a google search, guess which one...
*Puts Thriller on*
Random person receiving this news:
Michael Jackson?! Michael Jackson is dead?! nooooooooooo!!! or Michael Jackson is dead? Well...crap.
Farah Fawcett...I think I remember who she is. Yeah./Poor girl.
Ed McMahon...who?
*Plays Thriller and Off the Wall*
I can't believe some of you haven't even heard of Ed McMahon. Am I that old or did I just watch TV Land and Nick at Nite too many times as a kid?
The only one of those I've heard of at all was Michael Jackson.
D: Quite shocked. 50 is still fairly early D: And his music was ace, even if he was a bit wierd...
r.i.p. moonwalker, may have been weird in the end, but will always be remembered for his jackson 5 and solo careers which were great.
Who will everyone accuse of composing Sonic 3 now?
rip
shocked more that he died kind of early but that thing becomes less and less shocking.
Death not taking a holiday.
LA coroner confirms Michael Jackson's death, according to the UK arm of Fox.
Yea...today was ridiculous! Like goodness gracious! And Ed Mcmahon...now I;ve watched my fair share of I Love Lucy, Mary Tyler Moore and Happy Days on Nick at Nite...but I can't say that name stands out. Surely if I saw him or heard him I could probably remember. Sad news, sad news.

He was Johnny Carson's helper on The Tonight Show: the guy who played the straight man for Carson.

He also did the Publisher's Clearing House and Star Search (the original American Idol). You've probably heard the phrase he's most known for, too: "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Johnny!" (His introduction to Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show.)
I hate to speak ill of the dead, but out of the three, the only ones I care about about are Fawcett and McMahon. My sympathies go to all three families, but I can't say I'm upset about Michael Jackson. I mean, I loved his earlier music, but I can't help disassociating that Michael Jackson with the current one. As far as I'm concerned, they're not the same person.
celebrity deaths always happen in 3's
I heard about the abrupt death of Michael Jackson several hours ago while I was still in my bed. My mum told me that Michael Jackson had died and at first I thought she was just messing with me (even though she doesn't usually mess around with me like that). I was (and still am) shocked by this news yet not surprised by it..... if you know what I mean.
I think Michael Jackson had such a diverse personality that I just don't know where to begin when it comes to describing it. This news about the death of Michael Jackson will resonate throughout modern history and I feel that his death is going to someday become something akin to this current generation's equivalent of the death of Elvis Presley. Though Michael Jackson the man was deeply flawed, Michael Jackson the musician was breathtakingly perfect. Indeed, it was Michael's complete and utter drive for perfection when it came to refining his chosen art forms that shall be his lasting legacy..... or such is my sincere hope anyway.
He will certainly be remembered for the accusations of child molestation and just the numerous controversies in general which dogged both his career and his overall life, but I have no doubt whatsoever in my mind that he will also be remembered for the musical genius that he was and STILL IS. I grew up as a fan of Michael Jackson and though I by no means consider myself one of his hardcore fans, I still immensely enjoyed his beautiful songs (who could forget Thriller, which REMAINS the highest selling album of all time?), his iconic dancing (the moon-walk shall FOREVER remain his signature dance move) and his intense performances in general?
Obviously Michael Jackson had flaws, that is undeniable, but it is at least EQUALLY undeniable that ALL of us fellow human beings have flaws. Indeed, if we lacked flaws, we would simply not be human beings. However, in Michael Jackson's case, I SINCERELY and FIRMLY believe that his strengths both outnumbered and outpowered his weaknesses. He was a man who was extraordinarily charismatic and extremely enigmatic. He was as gentle as he was wild. I know it's a predictable cliche, but he was, in many ways, a genuinely tortured soul throughout his relatively short sojourn of 50 years on this planet. He came from a fractured family that was deeply divided and experienced a sudden transition from dire poverty to abundant wealth. He has been haunted throughout his life by a starving media circus and mobbed by his many fanatical fans. Michael Jackson was and is a household name and most people who know his name either love him or hate him. He had an incredibly polarising personality. There really was no 'in-between' when it came to Michael Jackson (usually, anyway). It was either one extreme or the other. Michael Jackson is celebrated as the 'King Of Pop' (and deservedly so, in my opinion) and it was his sheer drive for artistic perfection which ignited his career into the passionate flames of superstardom, yet, ironically, it seems that it was also this very same drive for perfection which led him to his untimely death. Michael Jackson was due to do 50 final shows in London, one for each of the 50 years of his life up until that point. He appeared to be very cheerful and enthusiastic about doing these shows in front of the ever-watchful eye of the general public, yet behind the scenes, he was supposedly frustrated about this understandably daunting prospect and wanted to do a mere 10 shows in London instead, whilst doing various other shows around the world.
The 'King Of Pop' title is a very lofty title indeed and Michael felt that he owed it to his devoted fans to prove why he is widely recognised as the 'King Of Pop'. It was these 50 concerts that were supposed to be his comeback, his final curtain call. Alas, it was not to be. Needless to say, such a heavy burden was placed on a man whose physical health and mental health were never robust to begin with! Even relatively recently this year, Michael appeared to be even more frail than he usually was. Though we contain great strength within us, we also contain great fragility within us as well. With this knowledge in mind, is it truly any wonder that Michael Jackson died of a heart attack? Excessive stress can KILL. That is a universally recognised medical FACT. I hope that the privacy of Michael Jackson's family is respected during these obviously difficult times so that they can not only mourn Michael's death, but also celebrate his life. I am a passionate believer in life after death and I have absolutely NO doubt WHATSOEVER that his consciousness still lives and will continue to do so forevermore. Consciousness is energy and energy can NEVER be created nor destroyed. I hope that Michael Jackson has attained the infinite spiritual bliss which I feel is ultimately the birth-right of ALL living beings. I hope you have now found the true happiness which should be afforded to ALL living beings, Michael Jackson. Thrive in Heaven! Oh, and though I don't really know much about Ed McMahon and Farah Fawcett, I hope that they also thrive in Heaven. I know this is another typically long-winded post from me, but I chose for it to be this way and to dedicate this time and effort in making this post because I love Michael Jackson - warts and all. Farewell for now Michael Jackson, I will ALWAYS remember you!
Yeah, this is super suckage. I heard about Fawcett this morning while getting ready to take the wife to work, (that she was on her deathbed and was given her last rights), and then she calls me saying some customer said Jackson was dead, and then as I pick her up, she tells me McMahon died two days ago. Jesus McChrist.
Fawcett... honestly, I don't care. It sucks. Best to the family.
McMahon... mannnnnnnnnnn, really? No more silly laughter nor handing out the million dollar checks to peoples doorsteps?
And MJ... oh MJ. I'm so torn on how to feel about this one. It's MJ, and a huge part of my life, hell, my generation's life. Huge influence in music, and more or less shaped pop music to get to where it is now. But this MJ that died is not the MJ I knew and love. MJ died mid nineties... about after Black & White, and the last good thing he did was HIStory. Anything after that... yeah, no.
Personally, I'm a little happy he finally passed. It's an end to his final, sad, sad chapter of his life. No more pain in his heart, no more "wacko Jacko" stories to endure. Just peace. RIP, good buddy. *plays Stranger in Moscow, probably the last good song he ever did, and no, not because of the ties to Sonic 3*
[Oh, and Rish, seriously, the ENTER key, dude, THE ENTER KEY... PARAGRAPHS! I've seen you do it before!!! Here's a hint, you typing stuff out like that makes everyone SKIP YOUR POST AND NOT READ WHAT YOU SAID. Seriously, dude. Get with it]
Stop me if you've heard this one before.
Okay, so an angel, a pop icon and an eternal sidekick are at the Pearly Gates, and... something something something "THE ARISTOCRATS!"
Listening to some old-school MJ today after I heard the news. DAMN. Even his cheesiest songs were light-years ahead of today's Top 40 on the quality spectrum. It's insane just how much BETTER he was than the crap we get inflicted with today.
Plus he also helped Weird Al get famous. That's definitely marks in the 'cool column' for MJ.
Final note: shock and sadness at the suddenness of death is a normal thing. Just don't take it too far... like the Cincinnati Bengals' Chad 'Ochocinco' Johnson
Is it wrong that the first thing that came to mind was an episode of KSK's "Marvin and Ocho"?
It would only be wrong if it WASN'T the first thing to come to your mind.

Okay, seriously, what now? What the heck is "KSK's 'Marvin and Ocho'" if you don't mind be asking?
Also, while I agree with Jin on Rish's post and I did have to highlight segments to read better, I actually was able to read through all that where I usually skim over such long posts at best. Have to say, beautifully put, as is all the philosophical posts I've read of yours, Rish.
Personally, Pop is FAR from my favorite genre of music, I tend to prefer more Underground acts (Ya, lol metal, etc.), but MJ is probably the only pop artist I could tolerate listening to (Especially compared with what we have nowadays...), so considering my opinion of pop, that's a complement.
Do I like him personally? Can't say I do, considering the allegations pressed against him, but its completely pointless to hold negative feelings over a man who's dead. So, MJ, RIP.
I hate music channels. Why does somebody have to DIE before they start playing music videos.

It goes with all deaths of famous people. It's the inadequecy of our species. =/ We don't miss it until it's gone. And ochocinco...really? >_>
Well, damn, I heard the news a few days ago. And apparently another celebrity recently passed away. What does that make, four? Geez, 2009, you...you're gonna be one damn depressing year.
There's nothing I can really add here that hasn't already been said. I'd mostly echo Rishi's sentiments - granted the man had his flaws, but I'm shocked he's gone, and especially so close to when he'd planned a comeback as well.
Rest In Peace MJ, and thanks for making the 80s and 90s an awesome time to be a music lover.
This is how I some up this entire issue
Then:
WTF, MJ's a pervert. I wish he was dead. -(
Now:
OMG! MJ's dead. I always loved him. 🙁
i'm just curious now as to what exactly killed micheal jackson. sure, he wasn't in the best of health for ages and had been working hard for his upcoming concerts.. but i'm wondering if his doctor really did accidently kill him.
still, the timing was dreadful for him and his family. his come-back could've been pretty successful and paid off some of that debt the papers kept talking about.
So who is paying off the debt now?
wouldn't some of it be written off if the person in debt dies?

I'm guessing the Beatles catalog, which he still owns a significant portion of, would more than cover his debts
The heart of a boy encased
Within the body of a man
His name was Michael Joseph Jackson
From poverty to superstardom
From slums to stadiums
From obscurity to immortality
He was and always will be..... the King of Pop.

It's usually passed onto the still living spouse and children
