So, Sagey did a favorite song topic... So I'll do a favorite movie/ TV Special topic...
My favorite movie would have to be It's A Wonderful Life.
My favorite TV special is "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street"
Mr Hooper and the Ernie and Bert ftw... "I sold my paper clip collection for to buy a dish for you Rubber Duckie" "But I sold my Rubber Duckie to buy you a cigar box for your paper clip collection" Classic, and heartwarming.
I know there are hundreds of others... Home Alone, Frosty, Rudolph and the like... What are you favorite's? (I'll probably post again when I remember more)
One of my favorites is Santa Claus is Coming to Town and The Year without a Santa Claus, the Heat and Snow Miser themes are so darn catchy!
The Charlie Brown Christmas special. I love it! And that ABC family movie...2 Days. I think that's what it's called. Maybe it's 3 Days. And Christmas Every Day is wonderful. As is Home Alone 2.
Definitely Rankin-Bass's Rudolph. It's a family tradition around my place to watch it every year.
It's a Wonderful Life is obviously a classic, and there are other christmas films I like like Muppet's Christmas Carol, but one film that I've taken a liking to which is seemingly underrated is Jingle All the Way with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's a simple premise but it's a fun, feelgood christmas film.
I've always been partial to mickey's Christmas Carol and the Charlie Brown Christmas Special - but I'd have to say that the Rankin-Bass speacials are ALWAYS tops to watch every season.
Charlie Brown, the usual Rankin Bass shows, Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol, yes...
I really enjoy the first Santa Clause, too, although its sequels can go take a long walk off a short pier.
lol, anybody remember the Claymation Christmas? With "Here We Come A Waffleing" and the like? The California Raisins ftw
I have that on tape somewhere, Hiro. I stumbled upon it when I was looking through some of my old VHS tapes. I really should put it on DVD when we get a new VCR.
I can't believe I forgot about Mickey's Christmas Carol. That was the first version of A Christmas Carol I ever saw. I finally got it on DVD two days ago.
I've also become fond of the Christmas Carol musical that aired on CBS or NBC a couple years ago. It has Kelsey Grammer as Scrooge and Jason Alexander as Marley. Those guys can sing too.
Lee and I watch Muppets Christmas Carol together almost every year. It is our holiday tradition and a great movie!
Like THS said, "jingle all the way" is such a great movie, easily one of my favourites.
Muppet Christmas Carrol is probably my all time favourite, but cutting it close is the Nightmare Before Christmas!
...hmmm....does Batman Returns count? 😛
Oh yes Jingle All the Way does rock. And I didn't even realize there was a Muppet's Christmas special. Wow...I KNOW it rocks.
Holy crap I am an idiot... I forgot the greatest movie of them all
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation m/ Fried cat is Fried -
It's not anywhere near christmas yet }=O
But since the topic is here, I don't have any particular specials that I like, but film wise, the aforementioned Muppet's Christmas Carol is awesome, as is the Blackadder Christmas Carol.
But what really stays in my mind from when I used to watch it every year, is The Santa Claus Movie. It's god Dudly Moore as an elf man =D
Santa Clause is also cool, and I'd forgotten about it because its sequels has made me ungh at the series as a whole. Blackadder Christmas Carol was also cool, but I've only ever seen it from youtube =/
sadly, due to it being played every single year.. when asked for a christmas film, my brain automatically responds with 'the sound of music'. ><; whyyyy?
Umm wow, a whole topic of Christmas movie and no one's mentioned Die Hard :O. You all Fayl!
That and Little Drummer Boy. That one always makes me wanna get up and dance!
Screw Die Hard, nobody mentioned How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Not even me. I did the team a disservice... ;_;
Gremlins is also another really good Christmas movie. Any movie which uses the analogy "While some people are opening their presents, other people are opening their wrists" deserves to be in the list. Why? To battle the cheery super happiness of the rest.
If we have a super cheer balance then that means there has to be like a super miserable day. Like Valentines or something.
As far as "Christmas Carol"s go, I do like the Muppet one, as well as the one with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge. I like Ebbie (a female version of the story with Susan Lucci as the Scrooge character) alot as well.
Screw Die Hard
May God have mercy on your soul, sir.
As for the best Christmas movie... Well... It's definatly not The Friday After Next.
A Christmas Story, anyone?
Charlie Brown Christmas ranks probably number 1 on my list. In addition to being a beautiful story with the classic characters, the music is absolute beauty. Vince Guaraldi is jazz pianist of awesome. <3 But that belongs in the other topic.
Mickey's Christmas Carol... I remember watching it as a kid, but I don't remember anything about it besides that. For some reason, clips of Chip and Dale in a Christmas tree come to mind. o.O In terms of absolute classics, The Little Drummer Boy is a great one, though it's really showing its age.

Scrooged was quite a good film, too, with Bill Murray playing the part of Scrooge in a more modernised setting. Unfortunately it doesn't get shown on TV much, but we have it on tape (somewhere!), so~
C'mon, no love for How the Grinch Stole Christmas? ='(
My mum loves National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and forces us to watch it every sodding year.
Die Hard is great.
"Mickey's Christmas Carol" - genius casting of Uncle Scrooge, and the last feature where original Donald Duck, Clarence Nash, lent his talents. You can also play spot the cameo as half the cast from "Robin Hood" turn up at Fezziwig's party and Mr Toad screams past on a fire engine. Also has a very sweet theme tune which I managed to get on a Disney read-along tape.
"Muppet Xmas Carol" - Michael Caine sings! And he's not bad! Rizzo & Gonzo star! The soundtrack is amazing (and has finally been re-released). Robin manages not to annoy me as Tiny Tim, Piggy is a great Mrs Cratchett and who could forget Fozziwig?
Honourable mentions also go to "Scrooged" and "Gremlins" for the reasons people have already said above.
For special episodes, I am very partial to the Tiny Toons Xmas special (another take on "It's a Wonderful Life") and Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries (set in "Bedspread Falls"). Darkwing's Christmas ep is quite good, as Bushroot plots to steal everyone's presents because the Xmas shopping crowd in St. Canard are almost literally murder. And to be honest, I don't blame him!
I haven't seen it in years, but there's a TaleSpin one too - I think Baloo moves heaven & earth trying to get it to snow for Molly. That's on my DVD that came through the post the other day, so I look forward to it.

What DW said. 🙂
Although I'm another fan of the original It's a Wonderful Life - and also Miracle on 34th Street, before it was remade with the cheesy token Christianity clubbing the audience over the head at the end.
I grew up on A Claymation Christmas - to be honest, I wonder why it's not seen a revival since Aardman made claymation trendy again.
I also possess a copy of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians... 🙂
LMAO @ Sam
My dad just had me order a copy of A Claymation Christmas off of eBay last night Here we come a Waffling ftw
I also have a copy of "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians". Thankfully, it was filmed in beautiful Shadowrama & has Joel, Tom & Crow talking over the top of it.
Tom's imagining the fate of Father Xmas in space is great...
I do like "It's a Wonderful Life", having finally caught it one Xmas rerun - so many Xmas specials now make sense Jimmy Stewart had such a great voice - he was amazing in "Harvey" too.
DW
The Garfield Christmas special. It's always held a special place in my heart - it's always been a childhood favorite. That and the Charlie Brown one have always been like some sort of indestructible duo. Shame the Garfield one doesn't seem to be aired anymore. Luckily I managed to find a DVD with that and the lesser-known Halloween and Thanksgiving specials for $15 I think. Let the traditions continue.
