I recently had a revelation that I do a lot better at the gym if I'm listening to battle music from turn-based RPGs, and was wondering if people could recommend some tracks to me so I can diversify my portfolio. If you have a link to where I can download/purchase it, even better.

What, like this?

Curious, what tracks have you been listening to?

*dives into his music montage playlists on Youtube*

Mass Effect 2: The End Run
The Legend of Zelda, Spirit Tracks: Malladus Beast
Blue Dragon: The Seal is Broken
Super Mario RPG: Fight against an Armored Boss
Pokemon Stadium: Mewtwo Battle
Final Fantasy VIII: Maybe I'm a Lion
Disgaea: One With the Stars

Persona 3 FES: Darkness
Golden Sun: Saturos Battle
Seiken Densetsu 3: The Sacrifice (III)

However, a lot of my favorite ones are non-RPG:

Iji: Tor
No More Heros: We Are Finally Cowboys
Super Street Fighter II TURBO: Guile's Theme
Ninja Gaiden Black: Doku Battle
Punch-Out!!: Von Kaiser
Punch-Out!!: Soda Popinski
Punch-Out!!: Mr. Sandman
Dance Dance Revolution: Tsugaru OR-IF-IS Mix

For ones you can't really find online (i.e. most video game soundtracks), you can use the free version of RealPlayer to rip them straight from Youtube and then convert them to MP3. Others (like Mass Effect and Final Fantasy) can be bought via iTunes or AmazonMP3.

PSX: Actually, the music that kicked the revelation into effect wasn't actually VG music. It was the first Homestuck album. But I tested it later with the FFX battle music, and it was sound. '

I actually have an entire theory as to why this works so well. I'm currently reading "Reality is Broken" by Jane McGonigal (which everyone in this forum should read) and one of the things it talks about is recreating the feeling of "epicness" gamers get when they play games, but in other situations.

Let's face it, spending an hour on an elliptical isn't a very epic situation, but I think the music is tying it all together for me.

*go to GameStop*

*ask clerk for a copy of Dragon Quest VI*

*points to guy about to leave store and says he just bought the last copy*

*look over*

*guy's just standing there, admiring the box*

*he looks up*

*eyes meet*

*Suddenly...*

Yeah, I can see that.

Wow, trying to narrow this down to a few(?) items and one song per game series was a bit of a chore.  A self-imposed limit, but if I didn't, I'd be here all day. >.>
Disgaea 2: White Tiger

0_____0  hey for a disgaea fan i'm surprised you didnt choose the secert boss in disgaea 1  priere's song was really cool to me back then XD

as for boss songs i like this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C34BzC7rnos&feature=related    final fantasy 10 is the best battle theme in my opinion also

the best battle song that gives you a rush is defiently laguna's theme battle in ff8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-wcX-ptx3E

XD hope you like my choices i would recomend more but the others done a good job of covering most of what i like.
