Did anyone else catch the premiere last week of the debut of the Flight of the Conchords new American show on HBO? If you missed it, you can actually get the entire first episode by subscribing to HBO's video podcast for ths show.
I was pleasently surprised at how good it turned out, with the first episode having 2 songs I hadn't heard before out of 3, plus the return of one of my favorites ("The Humans are Dead"). It looks very good, although I'm not certain how much of an audience it's attracting, as I really think FotC humor style is hit or miss for most Americans. I think I read that the first episode had 1.5 million people watching, which is good for cable. Let's just hope it lasts.
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, Flight of the Conchords is New Zealand's fourth most popular folk parody duo. I think of them as a nerdier version of Tenacious D. Anyway, they're hilarious and you can either check out their show sunday nights on HBO, or you can listen to some of their better songs on youtube.
Wait...
If they're from New Zealand, that means they're either Hobbits... or ORCS!
Actually, on an NPR interview with Terry Gross of Fresh Air, Brett revealed he was an extra in Lord of the Rings. He was an elf.
And of course they do have a LotR themed song: Frodo, Don't Wear the Ring
I saw the premier, but I missed this week's episode. I'll catch it later; it seems like a pretty funny show.
