A huge interstate highway bridge collapsed about 15 miles from my house... 3 dead so far... This is really frightening. I drive on that highway all the time... As far as I know none of my family members were on that bridge... no clue about friends though =
Happened during the peak of rush hour traffic to boot.
Wow man...that is super scary. I'm sorry. I'm hoping all of your loved ones are safe.
I hope things turn out the best they can for you, and others as well. :<
I've been watching that on MSNBC... I just had to stop watching. Jeez...
That's awful. I hope your friends are okay.
Wonder what could've caused the collapse.
Oh snap! I sure hope everyone in the hospital recovers, that everyone who died finds peace, and there's enough funds to figure out what wrong with the bridge and fix it.
Please keep us posted when you learn how your friends are doing and stay strong *hugs*
What the...that's insane. Hopefully everything turns out all right...and it happened at rush hour...I guess the only good thing you can say is that thankfully there weren't any trucks carrying hazardous material....
Good thing there weren't any gas trucks or Hiros on the bridge, dude. Glad you're okay.
Whoa.. I wonder what caused the bridge to collapse in the first place?
According to an article I read the number of dead has risen to 9, there's around 60 injured and 20 missing.
Hey, any word yet on family/friends/loved ones Stewie? Talk about a freak disaster.
apparently none of my family are hurt. i don't have many friends in minneapolis, but i hope they aren't hurt
Tht's crazy and so scary. I wish the best for those people.
I heard (the source being BBC) they found that the structure was unsafe in 2000 (or around about), and was going to be rebuild at some point. They found that a single crack in the steel guilders would cause it to collapse. Yet it was surveyed in 2005 and 2006 and found to have no faults, so it must have been very recent.
I've been following the news because I was worried about Hiro D:
Hope your friends are okay Boston
'This is America. Bridges shouldn't just fall down,' said Amy Klobuchar, a US senator from Minnesota.
AMERICAN BRIDGES. AMERICAN STEEL. AMERICAN INGENUITY.
Beyond that, I'm lolzing at how many of the comemnts are HAET BUSH crap.
Yeah, the numbers have been all over the place. First 4, then 6, then 9 confirmed dead... We are back down to 4, thankfully. 20 to 30 missing though =. 80 injured. I find it quite amazing that there aren't more dead. Hell, we haven't even broken double digits yet... That said, they haven't really even begun to sweep the river.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I'm fine, and it seems nobody I know was hurt at all. My Uni sent an email saying no students or staff were involved.
What makes this even worse is how important this highway/bridge was. If Minneapolis was a heart, this highway is it's aorta... It takes about 25% of the traffic load. Sure, there are others that wrap around and go off along the sides, but this is the main one...
Ouch... I'm really hoping everything turns out okay over there, Boston. D=
That for a bridge to collapse like that is pretty horrible.
Yeah, this is America, that shouldn't happen.
Glad to hear noone you know was hurt, if I read that right.
My mom and my sibblings went down to the site today. Pay their respects to the victims and also to see the wreck first hand. I'll probably make my way over there at some point in the next week or so.
I also wanted to post a clip from one of the local morning shows. They were covering the news Thursday morning (the morning after) and received a phone call. Turns out it was one of the victims calling from his hospital bed. If you've seen any footage, this is the dude who was barechested, with a huge brace around him. I'd suggest listening to the first 5 minutes. You'll laugh and you will cry. He watched his buddy burn up infront of him =. He also saw the school bus of children.
i'm going to a karate thing on the 21st, so i'll go by then. or atleast i'll pass by, if i have time i'll go.

What makes us so much different then other countries with bridges? Let alone the fact that we have poor bridge maintenance.
This is really what we get for having obsolete bridges.
Yes, it is a tragedy of the death's it caused. But better maintenance and maybe even complete modernization and repair could of avoided it all.
I blame the way our society cheapens repair.
I heard about that on the news

THAT is the point there Mike. We are freakin' America. Wealthiest country in the world. THIS shouldn't happen here. You want to know where the blame for this lies? It's on all of us Americas. Those of us who vote politicians that care only about their personal agendas and not for getting things done. You know who else is to blame? People who cheat the government. Some lady out on the east coast acquired almost $2 million in child support from the government (She had adopted 11 children and was barely taking care of them = ).
