Many games to Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and other game consoles have 'close to reality looking' graphics and cd-quality sound effects and music!

I like them, but i also like older games.

Do you sometimes prefer to use older games?

Are you used to experience that you live in the games you play? ( Do you understand the question? )

Some older games to Amiga computers, Sega Genesis, Nintendo Entertainment System and some other systems have FM sound effects, FM music, odd graphics or something like it.

These would'nt give me same experiences.

Guilty as charged on the first question.

A while back, I bought one of those controllers with built-in games. It was an Atari 2600 joystick, and I still enjoy playing those games. I'm particularly fond of Adventure.

I also have a fondness for the older DOS (wonder how many kids even know about that now) computer games such as Oregon Trail, Super Munchers, and the Super Seeker series.

As for the second question, I have no clue what you mean.

It seems that the more technology progresses, the further entrenched I become in my desire to play Mega Drive games. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of new games that I adore, and will play again and again.

But it's with the Mega Drive my heart doth lie.

Oh man old school is my guilty pleasure. Super Star Soldier, Gradius, Galaga and Gunstar Heroes are among my newly est. favorites. Then of course, the old Sonics, Marios, TMNT IV, Ninja Gaiden and Top Gear games set the foundation of my gaming fondness. Old School vs. New School...that's a battle for the ages, my friend.

I've actually found that my heart seems to lie with my Saturn and not my Genesis, but, eh, close enough.

Someday...

I still have my Super NES and Genesis hooked up, alongside my Wii and PS2. I love playing games like Mario RPG and Tetris Attack, also I play some S3&K and Rocket Knight Adventures.

Oh man, if my Sega Genesis/CD worked, I'd be all over it like a kid on a cupcake. I'm making do with emulation (for legal purposes, I do have a copy of every game I emulate >> I'm a good girl). There's something about their simplicity, and yet they're complex enough to keep me interested for a long time. And the music.... ohhh, the music... I could listen to sega music all day. <3 MIDI FTW.

Speaking of old games though, a friend at camp sent me the Best of Windows Entertainment Pack, and Chip's Challenge has been my guilty pleasure as of late. Oh, how I love that game....

Never played Panzor Dragoon, but I remember that commercial for Orta a few years back made the game look awesome. Someday...

I'm all around the board, seeing as I have my entertainment room with the current gen stuff, (PS2, XB360, Wii), and my PCs, the living room is my old school area, (NES, SNES, GEN/32X/SEGA CD, and Master System still hooked up), and then the bedroom lies the Xbox and the Gamecube.

As for DOS, I will have an older PC dedicated to just the awesomeness of DOS games soon. At least, I hope to.

Our Atari is boxed up in the garage somewhere.

To answer the question, I enjoy them both to an even degree. The games of today have that greatness that comes close to reality, and a great atmosphere to pull you into the game, story driven games, action, sports, it's there. The old-school games, however, retain that charm for me; gameplay we, pretty much, don't see at all anymore. Not to mention a lot of game soundtrack styles that seem to have been dropped altogether.

Best of both worlds though; past and present.

PS: Yes, there is no N64 or PSX mentioned. To me, that was the worst era ever. I think I played my SNES and Genesis more than I ever did the N64... and I hated the PSX.

Worst era ever? Wow man...I suppose the transition to 3D may not have went over so well with some people and yes it definetly isn't the best era, but worst? Geez, Jin. But I do admire your video game console collection. *high fives*

I actually don't mind the PSX for some of the RPG's that came out...however for the most part, I'm still a fan of the Genesis/SNES era. While my Genesis is a cranky old fart, my Nomad serves as my gateway back to the time when I first got into games...most of the next gen games, I tend to lose interest in no time fast but the older ones...ahhh

I forgot to mention that I'm still fond of my PSX games. I often find myself replaying Monster Rancher 2, Rayman, and Spyro.

Eh, while I'll play "classic" (I read that as outdated, seriously. It's not like music, where a song is still a song, games DO age.) games and enjoy them, I focus most all of my time on current games. I mean, I play Goldeneye, and I just LMAO at the graphics before witching to say, Resistance.

The only old console I have right now is my Genesis, which was also my first console. I occasionally pop in Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 2, or Sonic 3 when I'm bored, which are quite fun.

Ah, I remember spending many nights locked away in my room in the dark, trying to get past that blasted Carnival Night drum...

For me the Dreamcast is in a spot of it's own. Not just because it's my favorite system[EVAR], but it came out in like '98[?] and had fairly decent graphics(way better than SS, PSX, N64 and not too bad when the most visual appealing games[Soul Calibur, Shenmue, VOOT, JSRF]are compared to this day and age's games), online play, rather inventive and creative ways of playing games(VMU was awesome and you know it) and some pretty good games, IMO. I'm never getting rid of it. Ever, ever!

For this generation, I think the new games are looking incredible and there are some very inviting titles on the way that ooze with what this ampt up power should provide. Not only do they push on realistic looks, but realistic AI, realistic physical presence in the game world make them very exciting prospects.

However, I often find myself wanting a retro style, two player co-op, arcade styled beat 'em up like Final Fight or Streets of Rage, or an arcady shooter like Metal Slud or Time Crisis. Platformers of old also have a big place in my heart, like Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros. 3. 2D Fighting games like Street Fighter 2 and King of Fighters, old RPGs like FF6 and Seiken Densetsu 3 are also things I love playing.

I'd love to see some of those retro elements brought back properly, the beat 'em up especially, I'm getting tired of seeing another game with a gun or sword.

I haven't touched my PS2 in maybe a year and none of the new consoles interest me at all. I seems that I do prefer older games to newer ones. It may explain why my collection of NES games has grown to 130+ in the past 10 years. The NES/Famicom (my first console ~teehee~) is home to some of the craziest games - it's all so charming!

But there are so many great classic co-op games out there. There are many times where my friend and I have fallen over with tears in our eyes, laughing at the things we do and events that happen in games like Goldeneye (both single and multi-player) and River City Ransom. Good times to be had.

I like the advances in computing technology in terms of AI and features more than I like HD graphics. The graphics in Goldeneye 64, for instance, made me LOLZ by today's standards, but it's sitll pretty clear what's going on. But the AI is crap, as are the physics, etc.

*shrug* I just never really cared. Let's see, N64, Mario 64, Star Fox 64, Ken Griffey Baseball, Zelda, and Golden Eye, were among my favorite, memorable games. The PSX had Metal Gear Solid and... yeah, that's it. Everything else sucked for me, and the horridness graphics of the PSX and the Saturn made me want to puke.

That is WEAK as hell compared to the rest of my collection of awesome games. For my NES I had 12 games, my Genesis had 10, my SNES had 10 games, my GameGear, for crap's sake, had 8 games. The 64 and the PSX was a joke. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the games I mentioned for them. Worthy of a purchase from me? Blegh.

Oh, and Conker. Yay Conker.

i'm tempted to get myself a PS1 or PS2 sometime.. just to play the games i've missed out on.

my dreamcast and megadrive have both been boxed up due to moving house, but my gamecube has several of the games i used to play on both of them (sonic, PSO).. so i'm not missing them drastically.

but sonic on the megadrive is the best way to play him. the controller fits in your had so much more easily, especially since the old sonic games were built for the 4-way keypad thingies, not an analog controller. it just feels more right with an older controller. ^

Hahha only MGS for PSX. No Tekken or Gran Turismo? No Madden or NCAA? What about Crash Bandicoot and Resident Evil? =P Then of course for the 64 there's Diddy Kong. Don't even tell me you didn't like that[or even worse never played it *gasps*]. Oh yea and Smash Brothers I never played Conker[except for on Diddy Kong...Conker was my dude :D ]

And Chibi yes...purchasing a PS2 would probably be a very good investment. Probably even more so than a new console. Too bad the PS3 doesn't play PS1 games[correct me if i'm wrong], because if it could that would be your number one bet. =P

It upscales them, too, so while it looks outdated, it looks as clear as it did on a PSX, but on an HDTV.

So much for old games always looking like ass on HDTV. I love the way my PS2 games look, and I've played a PS1 game that wasnt so bad, just dated, on my PS3.

Of course, you're going to want to buy it before you can only get the 80GB one.

I gots a hankering for the SotN (NoM?) soundtrack! *grabs CD*

I'm a 50/50. I still can't get into alot of SNES titles and Mega Drive classics have been done to death by me.

I'm planning on getting Super Mario World and Zelda 3 on the Wii!SNES as... I never played them...

But these days I mostly stick to handheld (DS) stuff. All the advantages of modern gaming with oldskool games.

Portrait of Ruin and Dawn of Sorrow! = too much <3

something ive noticed is older games seem to be more challenging than new games..altho that could just be from the fact i was just a kid when i first played them..
but im kinda 50/50. old games = fun, and so do new games.

A PSX game is a game played on a PS1, PS2, or PS3. I think. PSX might just mean a game for PS systems before PS3 or just PS1. x.X *is not helping*

True or not, the fact still stands that there is a PS2 variant in Japan that is called the "PSX" and that this fact kind of confuses the whole issue. Hence why I just use "PS1"...

Japan is dumb. =] No not really. >_> But what Criag said. Handheld own. When I had my DS i'd play it more than all my other systems. It really is the best of both worlds.

Really? My DS doesn't see much use past hte token hours to play a new game to completion...

...and not many DS games appeal to me.

I was kinda underwhelmed with the whole DS. The 3D games suck; all the good ones are 2D or 2.5D.

But yeah, the best DS games are like modern retro games or something.

I don't mind some of the newer games today, but I still like the older ones better.

Super Mario Bros. is a game that is simplistic in nature, but is still a ton of fun to play. It was fun to attempt to make the many tricky jumps that you were required to make (yet very frustrating at the same time). Bowser would also prove to be a challenge for those fortunate enough to be able to brave the dangers and elements of his castle; those lucky enough to get their with a fire flower were able to dispatch him easily enough, but those who didn't would have to carefully time their run to get under him just as he jumped. It was such a rush for people like me when the game was finally won.

Sorry for the rant there, but my point is that I still do like to play the older games once in a while. Some of my best memories lie within the older systems, too. They're still fun for me today.

I like a bizarre variety, myself. Some of my favourtie games were released only this year, some in the early 90s.

PSX: Was actually the shortname given to the PS1 in the states. Remember, there was never a "PS2" to go by when the PSone came out, in fact, it never got to PSone until it's tiny redesign.

The PSX in Japan, is in fact, the set-top-box PS2 with DVR type functionality. It tanked. Badly.

Then we have the PS2, and the slim model PStwo, (seeing a trend here?). Now the PS3.

To clarify, I can't believe I forgot my little white box that could--and still can! I still have my DC hooked up in my entertainment room. Usually sits with Capcom vs SNK 2, but it's all good. :)

Yes, I forgot Smash Bros. I played the hell out of that. Diddy Kong Racing was OKAY, (god the DS remake SUCKED). Tekken? NCAA? Madden? PFFFT. Whatever. Give me 2D fighters, any day, and I wasn't into the sports game back then, not unless it was Triple Play or World Series Baseball on my Genesis! Granted, Resident Evil 2 was cool, that was the other game I had for it.

Eh, that's about it. I'm not counting handhelds, but I got my DS, DS Lite, a GBC, and, unfortunately, a good-for-nothing PSP, (yay MP3 player).

Good for nothing PSP? I could reccomend a few games - MGSPO and both Ac!ds are great if you like MGS, and then turn based card combat things. Ace Combat X is truly worthy of the Ace Combat name, if short, and Field Commander > AWDS. GTALCS and VCS are great if you like GTA games. I don't even use it for music or movies, and I use my PSP a lot more than my DS. A handheld full of N64 remakes is worse than a console full of PS2 remakes.

Smash Bros...if I still had an N64, I'd have just as much fun today putting in a music CD on the surround sound speakers, muting the TV, and kicking ass to blasting music (this works no matter your music preference.) I played Paper Mario on PJ64 a month or two ago and had more fun than I did on TTYD. =D

My gamecube is sitting behind my PS3 gathering dust, and I sold my N64 and Game Boys and GBA and whatnot. I do emulate N64 and S/NES games sometimes. And genesis.
