HA TMNT[originals] actually made the list. Awesome! Would've preferred top 50, but hey 55 works. But I agree...Looney Tunes rocks hardcore. Still though...glad it beat out the more modern age shows. Yay yay! And I feel ya on the no Rocko's Modern Life thing...that show was hilarous! And strangely enough...Beavis and Butthead is pretty crazily awesome. It's been all the rage at work..."I need TP for my bunghole." Never understood the commotion over the show, until now. xD! Thanks for posting this, Torn. Saved me about 10 minutes by not having to click, "next". Haha

89. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) ...

... really? Maybe I haven't seen the right episodes, maybe they are totally different from the crap 2008 movie, but I thought this show was terrible.

I'm also confused how 100. Josie and the Pussycats (1970) got on there, but what ever. No SATam, although disappointing, is understandable, I guess... The real shame is no mention of Haruhi =(

Also Clerks should have been a lot higher

Dragonball Z and Pokémon are lower on the list than Naruto? F*****g NARUTO?!?!?! WTF?!?!?! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pokétards > Narutards

TMNT should've made the top 10. That s**t was NICE, yo!

I'm sorry, but any list that considers Naruto to be rated better than classics like Batman Beyond and Gargoyles needs to be raped and beaten to oblivion. Just like Naruto himself.

But at least Batman: The Animated Series got to #2.

I'm sorry, but any list that considers Naruto to be rated better than classics like Batman Beyond and Gargoyles is utterly worthless.

Amen to THAT! Naruto shouldn't even be on that list!

All these comments, and not a single one of you has mentioned the absolute travesty that is Darkwing Duck at #93? How could Darkwing Duck be rated ANYWHERE below crap like Frisky Dingo, Fosters Home or Naruto?

Also, as much as I'm loving IGN for putting The Maxx at 16, can you really rate that above Animaniacs or Ducktales? No. You can't.

Oh wow...I didn't didn't even notice Darkwing or Ducktales. I immediately ctrl + f to search to TMNT, just to see if it was even on here. LOL But I guess I should maybe take another gander at this here list. As for Naruto...i've never watched it, but it's all the craze...I can tell you that. *shrugs*

Heh, I love Naruto, believe it! *shot* I'm upset that CN didn't finish it off; I mean it only has a few more eps until it's over with and then I want Shippuden darnit!!!

No Freakazoid or Rocko's Modern Life = crap. Also, I happen to like Frisky Dingo, but one of the top 100, really?
PS. What the hell is Spawn doing on there, I didn't even know it was a cartoon.

I've seen a few of the Clone Wars episodes, they were all right. Josie and the Pussycats is really horrible. And Haruhi should have easily hit the top 10, but I guesse Haruhi is too awesome to be acknowledged by the likes of IGN.
X-Men should be bumped up quite a bit too. I'll just stop there; it'll take at least an hour for me too give the rest of my opinion.

I'd be happy if they kept anime off entirely. Save that for a different list. And I like Haruhi but 10th? Agree to disagree there.

Freakazoid was there at 53. Also, Spawn was an awesome cartoon series.

XD! Hilarous! We're so opinionated! Yays for individuality and message boards letting us express them! As for anime being on an enitrely different list...I was so going to say that too. I was going to ask why it was even on here actually. Then went back and re-read the title...Top 100 Animated, so that's why. Lame! Seriously though...no Rocko = Sucko. >_>

I'm glad Spectacular Spiderman is high up on the list, as it is awesome, and I'm really glad X-Men is up there and Batman's Number 1.

Yes, number 1.

Any top 100 will shoe horn the Simpsons onto the number 1 spot somehow without it being that good, so I just ignore it whenever it comes up.

Besides, can anyone honestly say there aren't better cartoons than it?

According to my limitless knowledge (which of course means none), shows like South Park and Family Guy supposedly owe a lot to The Simpsons for being the first to break the mold for edgy programing. So there.

If you really want to go on that route then you could one up Batman with the 1940s Superman cartoon, which was the first cartoon that wasn't a comedy as far as I'm aware, and inspired Batman TAS greatly.

As for the Simpsons itself, well, just because it was an innovator doesn't mean we should herald it as number 1 despite the fact that it's no where near as good as the first few seasons. The Simpsons is just popular these days, that doesn't mean it's quality or deserving of a number 1 spot every sodding time there's a top 100 something. It's pretty much like Sonic these days, something that was once amazing and deserving of it's success, but now the success has continued long after the quality died off, and exists purely for Fox to make money.

Also I think Batman TAS is overall a much better show, it was one of the very few cartoons to treat children as adults, with mature storylines that were about character rather than powers, and didn't always give a happy ending. Hell, the three animated movies it spawned were more mature than most Superhero movies usually dare, Mask of the Phantasm being everything you'd want from a Batman movie and it was released the same year as Forever.

So yeah, screw the Simpsons!

And Evangleon for that matter...really messed up that one.

I really can't say for sure The Simpsons should be the #1 top spot in IGN, let along a variety of different other sites, but what is absolute is the massive impact the series had. Innovator or not, better cartoons or not, The Simpsons is placed among the tops of what has defined the culture of America. And rarely does a cartoon ever signify such a position, one that has impacted so much of the entertainment and the real world. So while it is cliche (and tiresome) to put it on the top, in some ways, it's the most appriorate.

....Or I'm just being horribly biased. Hey, I love The Simpsons.

I thought most knew you were a chick O.o... guess not.

Anyways, I don't think that Haruhi is top 10 material, but definitely top 100.

And I think Looney Tunes should have been #1. Honestly influenced almost all of the cartoons we watch today. Its a shame that the cartoons aren't still in syndication. I remember watching them on Saturday mornings, along with our generation's cartoons.

Again? They do this just to get people to argue about the list and we've had at least 1 topic before about a previous version of it.

Robobotnik: While it may be true that the later seasons of The Simpsons are not that good, its prime seasons were so amazing that it must be #1.

The list has no credibility for not including the new adventures of Winnie The Pooh. Well, more like for being a top 100 list by IGN, but whatever. The point is that I just watched an episode on youtube and am reminded of how awesome it is and how well they walked the tightrope of writing such a series that had to use an established and beloved universe, be accessible to preschoolers, and entertain any age group.

1. The Simpsons (1989) - Where it should be

2. Batman: The Animated Series (1992) - Solid choice. I can't say there is a specific show that absolutely should be higher, other than Simpsons

3. Looney Tunes (1930) - Overrated due to longevity, though I'll admit that it's probably better than I think it is. Some of them made more sense after I read information about the cultural environment they were produced in.

5. Beavis and Butt-head (1993) - And here we have the first big WTF of the list!

8. The Flintstones (1960) - Overrated by their longevity. Can you actually say it was good?

10. Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) - I don't get the big deal about this show honestly. It was how some people got into anime, but so? This brings up the question, what are we rating by? Quality? Historical significance? Some of these are good but obscure, while others are bad but famous.

19. G.I. Joe (1985) - Seriously, is this a top cartoons list, or a list of shows the author watched? I understand that it is famous, but what else?

24. Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! (1969) - Overrated by its longevity. Can you actually say it was good?

25. Robot Chicken (2005) - Too inconsistent, a small amount of extreme hilarity buried in pop culture references and offensiveness disguised as comedy

29. Speed Racer (1967) - Overrated by its longevity. Can you actually say it was good? Third anime of the list. Apparently these are ranked by the number of people they got into anime.

36. Superman: The Animated Series (1996) - No. That show was an epic disappointment after Batman: TAS and killed it by merging them.

37. Space Ghost Coast to Coast (1994) - Okay, but kind of high isn't it?

38. Naruto (2002) - Apparently these are ranked by the number of idiots they got into anime.

46. The Jetsons (1962) - Overrated by its longevity. Can you actually say it was good? The Jetsons was not even entertaining.

47. Pinky and the Brain (1995) - It was the best Animaniacs skit, but turning it into its own show just didn't work, and after that the Animaniacs were not as strong beause every other non-Warner skit sucked (other than Chicken Boo, but that could hardly support much screen time).

49. ThunderCats (1985) - I never got the hype about this. Their explanation is worse, citing furry fetish and "Cheetara is hot." Maybe that IS the mysterious reason this show has a cult following? 😛

50. SuperFriends (1973) - LOLWUT? Shouldn't that be in a list of the worst 100 cartoons? "You've heard of it" is not a reason to put it here guys.

53. Freakazoid (1995) - This is another following that I don't understand. It was not that funny.

52. Galaxy High (1986)
58. He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983)
59. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (1981)
64. Dungeons & Dragons (1983)

IGN's Top 100 shows that these editors watched at some point regardless of quality and hey only our age group is reading so they probably saw these. Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends is the only one of these I ever watched, and it was for Spider-Man and Iceman's awesome ice tracks, not the writing. I'm amused to read the name Galazy High so many years later, because it's super obscure and I remember that I saw commercials for it on Saturday mornings. I didn't watch it as it sounded incredibly dumb. Looking it up at youtube, I was right and it doesn't even belong in discussion of such a list. I went to the link to read the explanations, and apparently, "dark moments" or "introduced licensed characters" are reasons to be among the top 100 cartoons ever.

66. Tom and Jerry (1940)
80. Alvin and the Chipmunks (1983)
88. The Woody Woodpecker Show (1957)

I admit that I watched these often because the local stations played them A LOT, but I seriously hated those shows. Woody and Jerry were too mean, and the Chipmunks show was kind of dumb, though its 80's movie was surprisingly decent.

89. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) - It started as a terrible show, and got better writing, but Top 100? Is this a top cartoons list or did somebody just rank these by their number of Google results?

95. Fullmetal Alchemist (2004) - I admit that the ending made no sense, but it should be higher.

100. Josie and the Pussycats (1970) - Hey this list was clearly written by guys. We need a show with a girl in the title. Oh there's one more spot to add? What's something you've heard of?

These inclusions made me grin:

6. The Tick (1994)
17. Animaniacs (1993)
18. DuckTales (1987)
31. Muppet Babies (1984)
33. Schoolhouse Rock (1972)
44. Battle of the Planets (1978)
54. Inspector Gadget (1983)
60. Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers (1989)
81. TaleSpin (1990)
93. Darkwing Duck (1991)

Disney animation was just incredible in that period, movie or television.

30. The Spectacular Spider-Man (2008) - I want to watch this. Why is it from an obscure network I don't have?

61. Count Duckula (1988)
62. Danger Mouse (1981)

71. Johnny Bravo (1997)
72. Dexter's Laboratory (1996)

I amused that these sets of shows are together, like the author just made it up as he went along and added them at the same time.

82. Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids (1972) - I watched what were apparently some of the last seasons of this when I was extremely young, so young that I don't remember if it was any good, but the opening theme was funny and it had a guy in an amusing hat, which is what made it memorable to me.

84. Spider-Man (1994) - The early seasons were rather good, but especially later it spent too much time covering stupid ideas from the comic, like Morbius, Peter mutating into a spider monster, or Madame Web, and not enough with cooler villains. Thus why I want to see how Spectacular Spider-Man does it better.

"8. The Flintstones (1960) - Overrated by their longevity. Can you actually say it was good? "

I think that ike 'The Simpsons', it did things back in the way that paved the day for imitation, and seems to get lauded for that rather than actual quality.

I doubt we'd have had 'The Simpsons' without 'The Flintstones' being willing to do what it did with the domestic sitcom format, and cover storylines like pregnancies and childbirth.

Haahah! Sonicfans...stop. LOL But good gosh Vec...you got a lot of time on your hands? 😛 Anyhow...you really do want to see The Spectacular SM. I mean ive only seen like 2 and a half episodes, but that was all it took. I'm probably going to end up buying the Dvds. xD #100. Should've been shared with Jabber Jaw. lol And i'm with Sam...besides who says "great quality" is the only thing to make an animated series great. Sure it helps and is rather nice, but plot, character development, setting, etc are key too. *shrugs*

Yea the list is made to be debated and maybe remind of us of those little ol shows we once watched.

P.S. Looney Tunes is NOT overrated. Take it back Vec, take it back! *whines*

And with all due respect... You honestly wondered why the forum thought you were a young teen when you corrected them, but you make statements like that?

I tend to ignore these lists, since the opinion of one person or a random sample of people who I'll never meet and who might be nothing to do with my demographic isn't going to change my mind on what I like. It might inspire me to look up a few things, but it doesn't mean anything to me.

But just having an "anime" label on something does not automatically make it the greatest thing since the bread slicer. There're so many elements in what makes a good story - from any culture - that I don't hold much stock in giving things kudos just for being called "animation" in a language other than mine.

Carmen? As in Carmen San Diego?

Or are you just trying to give us mental images of Eric Cartman in drag?

I wholeheartedly approve of Hypersonic watching Spectacular. Given that Greg "Gargoyles" Weisman did such a good job on it, the show really is worthwhile. Season 2 was a lil bit of a mixed bag due to the Liz Allen subplot (ie: Peter is an idiot/jerk) and the crime lord arc (Silvermane should not have an action fi-- battle suit!) but there were some really good moments like that The Final Chapter homage during the Master Planner arc.

I hope Disney commission a third series now that they have the rights for the show.

Also, the origin episode was a dang fine piece of cartoon, I recall being moved by it the first time and when going back it stood the test of time, I'd rate it as one of the best standalone episodes of anything I have seen in years.

Would talk more about the show, but the topic is about all 100 of these toons and not just one. *Laughs*

And I believe, Mada, the reason there are not that many anime on the list is because it is only listing the ones which have been embraced by culture at large, to the point where you can mention Cowboy Bebop or Dragonball Z in the break room at work and some people who are not neccessarily of the anime demographic will know what you mean.

I guarantee no person who does not seek out anime will have the slightest clue what Slayers, Haruhi, Azumanga, Sonic X, Outlaw Star or even Lupin III are.

I disagree with you there, Craig. SX has the marketing campaign and the airtime and timeslot to be stumbled on or absorbed by osmosis by people who wouldn't be looking for anime, or even people just looking for Sonic.

Maybe you can mention those series outside the standard anime demographic in the US (where it gets more airplay), but most people here'd still be clueless.
