Or...

A Genius Promotion Campaign?

From 10 to 24 March 2010, IKEA develops an interesting event in four
important metro stations in Paris. Furniture collections are currently
displayed in high-traffic spots, giving the potential customers a
chance to interact with the brand by checking out the products. The
subway walls are also filled with prints that showcase IKEA interiors.
What a creative way to do advertising! Moreover, this action completely
changes the way the Paris subway station look and creates a cool
atmosphere. Imagine waiting for the train n a comfortable sofa! We are
certain this is the sort of event that French people will talk of for
years to come. What do you think of this idea?

... GENIUS!

Yeah, I'm gonna go with genius as long as they're willing to pay for vandalized couches and stolen pillows as the price for the media exposure.

BUD LIGHT PRESENTS: REAL MEN OF GENIUS

(real men of geeenius!)

Today we salute you, Mr. Ikea Subway Idea Guy.

(Mr. Ikea Subway Ideeeeeea Guy!)

Any marketing guru can come up with an ad campaign,

but you just had to take it to the next level.

(look at those couches!)

There's nothing like sitting in someone else's stink

to make waiting for the train a night to remember.

(wooooh what's that between the cushions!?)

Billboards? Online advertising? That's soooo every other year but this one.

(just say no to pop-ups!)

And by the end of the week, each and every sofa will have been declared a toxic waste dump.

(someone get me some soap!)

So crack open a nice cold Bud Light, Couch guy.

'Cause we all know what you'll be advertising next: Complete Living Room sets for airport terminals.

Actually, I'm fairly sure I've seen this before with concept art years ago in a train station. I think it was in Amsterdam. Wasn't IKEA, but they were all for sale, and was functional (In most cases) furniture.

Personally, I'm sure the Paris Métro could use some comfortable seating. It's been twelve and a half years since I was last in Paris, but I don't remember there being any seating at all on their station platforms. If there was any, I doubt it was as comfortable as some of those seats look.

Personally, I think this is a very clever marketing scheme. After all, here we all are talking about it. Job done.
