Have you ever remembered part of something (such as a movie, book, etc.), but just can't seem to figure out where it came from?

For me, I've been trying to figure out the name of (or at least find out something more about) a movie that I remember parts of back from grade school, but have had no luck finding the name of it, even after trying to Google what I'd hoped would be key words or phrases.

So I've finally decided to try posting a description of it here, to see if anyone might recognize it. Anyone's welcome to post descriptions of stuff they've been trying to remember as well, so even if you don't know what other posts are referring to, feel free to add a description of your own if you have one. For those who are able to identify or otherwise help solve the mini-mysteries, thanks in advance!

------------------------------------------

Anyway, here's what I remember: (spoilers for the ending part of the movie, but since I don't actually know where they came from, I guess that doesn't help, does it? o.o; )

The Movie: This is one that I have been searching off and on for for years now. I'm assuming it's a movie, though it's possible that it could have been some sort of TV special or something, but neither of my parents remember a thing about it (even though they had been the ones who turned it on >< ). Anyway, I mainly remember two scenes from it. The first scene had to do with a girl (I think she was a princess, and that this takes place inside a castle within some kingdom) trying to find a ring that she lost. A boy she meets asks her if she's checked under her bed, and later on, when she checks there, she finds the missing ring.

In terms of plotstuffs, the girl and boy fall in love when they're a bit older. However, elsewhere, there is an evil witch who attacks the kingdom via a huge machine that accelerates time, causing the king and everyone else to start growing older at an alarming rate. In an effort to save the kingdom, the boy from the previous scene I mentioned (now a man), goes out to find and stop the witch (who of course is unaffected by her own device). Which takes me to the scene that I remember best: the "final battle" scene.

In this scene, the man has finally reached the witch and her machine. He has climbed up onto a platform of the machine, the giant gears turning beneath him nearby. However, he is now too old and frail to be able to do much of anything, much less stop the witch/machine. Realizing this, he slowly reaches into his pocket and takes out a ring that the princess had given him prior to his journey (possibly the same ring that she had lost before), and lifts it up to look at it, seeking strength from his love as he tries to figure out what to do. To his horror, the ring slips out of his grasp, and he can only watch as it drops to the floor, falling down into a gap between the boards. The man falls into despair, and the witch claims victory. Yet even as she does, the tiny ring continues to fall, landing amongst the turning gears of her machine. The ring's stone (which I'm assuming is diamond) gets caught in between two of the gears, jamming them. The gears continue trying to turn, but they can't break through the ring, and, finally, the gears snap out of place from all the pressure. This leads to a domino effect as the entire machine breaks down, falling apart and leaving the witch's plans in ruins. (I'm assuming this somehow also reverses the effects of the accelerated aging, since I'm pretty sure everything was back to normal in the happily-ever-after ending.)

Even if it turns out some of my details are off for the two scenes I mentioned, I know for certain that it had to do with the guy going out to stop the age acceleration machine, being too old to do so by the time he got there, and accidently dropping the ring. The ring then jammed the gears to take the machine out of operation. Perhaps this description will ring a bell for someone o.o

I'm guessing this was animated? It doesn't seem to ring a bell at all, to me, though.

Actually, unless my memory's being really weird, it wasn't animated. Thanks for asking about that, since that probably helps the description quite a bit, or at least helps point things in a more specific direction.

It's ringing a bell with me. I'm not sure why, but I get a feeling that it was released around the same time as Dark Crystal and Labirynth, and with a similar sort of feel.

Dang it Ari. Now I'm going to be thinking about this all day.
