Man in India Marries Dog As Atonement
NEW DELHI (AP) A man in southern India married a female dog in a traditional Hindu ceremony as an attempt to atone for stoning two other dogs to death an act he believes cursed him a newspaper reported Tuesday.
P. Selvakumar married the sari-draped former stray named Selvi, chosen by family members and then bathed and clothed for the ceremony Sunday at a Hindu temple in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, the Hindustan Times newspaper said.
Selvakumar, 33, told the paper he had been suffering since he stoned two dogs to death and hung their bodies from a tree 15 years ago.
"After that my legs and hands got paralyzed and I lost hearing in one ear," he said in the report.
The paper said an astrologer had told Selvakumar the wedding was the only way he could cure the maladies. It did not say whether his situation had improved.
Deeply superstitious people in rural India sometimes organize weddings to dogs and other animals, believing it can ward off certain curses.
The paper showed a picture of Selvakumar sitting next to the dog, which was wearing an orange sari and a flower garland.
The paper said the groom and his family then had a feast, while the dog got a bun.
I wonder whatever happened to that guy who married a dolphin...
^^^ There's got to be SOME reason they keep bringing this guy back.

. . . uhm sorry, but "beliefs" or not, that is just friggin' wrong.
And amazingly idiotic.
That's just sick and inhumane to the poor dog.
From my point of view, I'd have to agree with SU and Jin.
On the other hand, people believe what they believe. It may be stupid to us, but to them it means the solution to a problem, even if it doesn't work.
Since no one else seems to be, I'm gonna play the role of devil's advocate.
Okay, the guy wholeheartedly believes his misfortunes are the result of his, frankly, rather brutal killing of two dogs some fifteen years ago. Therefore, if he intends to marry a dog so as to counter-act this bad karma, then it would seem to me to be more of a marriage of convenience then anything else. Also note that the article never mentions him claiming to be attracted to the dog, much less wanting to do anything I don't need to describe here. If he seeks to atone for murdering two dogs, then violating another one doesn't make any sense. More over, some one please correct me if I'm wrong, and I could well be wrong, but doesn't Hinduism allow Polygamy? IE, he could still marry a woman.
The bottom line is, this guy is only paying lip-service to his deities. I await your responses which quote me out of context.

Although it'd be hilarious if he started goin' all gangsta on this new lady and everything.
"Hey, honey, I wanna introduce you to my @#%$..."
I am aware that word will be censored, but technically, that was the legit usage of that phrase. Assuming the dog was female. 🙂

Pretty crazy stuff happens in this world. o_O
Apparently wives don't need to consent to being married in India? Otherwise I don't understand how the dog said yes.
It made "woof!"
"Then let's ask the dog... Hey dog, does 'woof' mean yes?"
Dog "WOOF"
"OMG HE JUST SAID WOOF MEANS YES"
"Yeaaaah, unless 'woof' means no, in which case he just said no, 'woof' does not mean yes"
