"OMAHA, Neb. - A man who tried to cool out his hyper cat by stuffing her into a boxlike homemade bong faces cruelty charges"
.... WTH!!!!!!! Seriously! Who shoves there cat into a bong? Apparently the guys cat was hyper, so he shoved it into a bong while smoking marajuana out of it. The cat's condition is currently unknown, but at least its still alive. Poor thing. As a cat owner, if I knew where he lived, the guy would be found at the bottom of the hudson river. Grr... Anyhow, what are your opinions on this. (BTW: I'm fine with the guy smoking, its the cat abuse part I can't forgive)

You can find teh story here

Oh the poor, poor thing. At least it looks like she's recovering.

What a prat. Shows what drugs make you think like to do a thing like that huh.

o.o Presumed cause and effect much? What makes you think it's the marijuana that made him do it? Can't help but think you're jumping to conclusions here.

And fangoram, I don't doubt that this is wrong, but when you say he'd be at the bottom of hudson river, are you saying you'd kill him over what he did to a non-human? I don't know much about bongs or what they'd do to a cat, but it just seems like an irrational response; no offense...

And why would it be any less rational because it involves a non human?

... actually, come to think of it, my seeing it that way probably has more to do with my own perception of mainstream animal rights as being connected to people's emotional favoritism towards cuter animals (ie. more focus on cats than on spiders and ants) and the emotional knee-jerk response to things like this simply being a case of the same thing. I make myself look at things from an anthropocentric perspective, but I'll grant it certainly doesn't have a monopoly on logic.

My main point was more so about the marijuana though. o.o

Wow, my sister lives there now, I wonder if she heard of this. x_X

I don't really feel differently if it were an animal or a human being. Any living being that has some horrid thing done to them gets my sensitivity. Such a bizarre story though.

I'll admit that I am biased to cuter animals, but keep in mind that most insects don't have brains. To me intelligence ranks your moral status.

Hell, I'm biased to cuter animals myself. It's just that I think of looking at things in terms of "human" vs "non-human" as a way of holding that emotional favoritism back just a bit, along with the knee-jerk reactions that seem to come with it. Reminds me of a dream of mine where I was in some outdoor grassy area and people were having chickens float on huge sets of balloons, and when the balloons started popping (in chain reactions, for whatever reason) the chickens fell to the ground and suddenly the crowd started slapping red paint on their faces and screaming. o.o

That's not how you shotgun the kitty at all!

His weed technique leaves much to be desired...

Well, first of all, its a cat, which are one of the few things I don't hate. And no, I don't think what I said is irrational. Just because something isn't human doesn't mean it lacks the right to live a life that doesn't involve it getting put in a bong. And I would assume that the effect of getting put in a bong is the same as if you were taken and locked in a small closet with a few pounds of Marijuana burning. Also, on the part where I said I would kill him, it's called a hyperbole, Matt. The guy however, obviously needs help with his drug problems, and the Cat needs to be moved to a safer environment for now.If it were up to me, the guy would be in jail for a year or two, but, he'll probably get off easy because of his drug problems. Well, whatever. I'm fine as long as he gets some form of punishment.

Indeed.

I'm fine as long as he gets some form of punishment.

He should be shoved into an even larger home-made bong, amirite?
