April 8, 2008 -- Despite being the victim of an on-line prank, the Mets are gonna give Rick Astley a chance.
Thanks to a pair of humor sites, the cheesy 1980s pop singer and his hit "Never Gonna Give You Up" received more than 5 million write-in votes to be the Mets' permanent sing-along song in the eighth inning.
The Mets are playing the top six vote-getters' songs in order during the eighth inning of their first six home games, starting with Astley's song today in the final Shea Stadium opener. The winner will then be decided by which song the club feels gets the strongest fan reaction.
The other candidates are Bon Jovi's "Livin' On A Prayer," the Monkees' "I'm A Believer," Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," the Foundations' "Build Me Up Buttercup" and Billy Joel's "Movin' Out."

I love how everyone boos. XD
lol, I saw that, but heard they weren't going to use it... Glad to see they actually did
also, since when isn't Take Me Out To The Ballgame NOT good enough for the stretch?
Little baseball 101 for you Hiro.
Seventh Inning Stretch - Period of time between the bottom and top halves of the seventh inning.
Eight Inning - Not the seventh inning.
old news for me.. it was reported ages ago in the newspapers here. ^^ (we even got an article about rickrolling in the times. oo; )
lol... I thought I knew better. One of the articles I had read earlier said they wanted to replace Take me Out... maybe it was wrong?
Hiro, I know nothing about this situation, but if they were replacing Take Me Out To The Ballgame, I would renounce my status as a Mets fan. That's how unlikely that is.

You must be a Rangers (baseball not hockey) fan. Aren't you? -__-;
Uh...no. I don't watch baseball.
I am, however, a New York Giants fan as of 1997.
Edit: wait, no it doesn't.

As for the comment... eh, don't worry about it. We all make mistakes.
