I believe someone described him as an albino hobo version of Carrot Top. Ugh... like, is that really Johnny Depp under there?
Why did I think of Batman 3 when I read the title?
I like the super creepy Cheshire Cat but I thinks Wonderland is too grey, they need to color it up
I just watched the Disney animated version. Johnny can't even come close to that guy.
Although, as a fan of the books it seems like maybe it'll be a closer adaptation (except for a minor character like the Hatter now getting top billing). I see some scenes from Looking Glass in there (like the Tweedles getting attacked by the crow, and the White Queen).
The Disney version basically took the plot of Wonderland, removed some of the more boring characters and situations like the Duchess and the Mock Turtle, and replaced them with iconic characters and situations from Looking Glass, like Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum, and the flowers. Basically, it was a decent adaptation of the original, but totally canibalized the second book to the point where they would never get a second animated film.
Looking at the cast list, it looks like a few other Burton alumni are along for the ride; Charlie's Dad is the March Hare and Mrs. Lovett is the Red Queen.

I thought that too, at first. =D
Yeah, Mad Hatter getting top billing is just bizarre, if he's the focus then the movie will be rather odd. Also thanks to the purple, he just looks like a younger and more insane form of the Depp Wonka.
Cracked up laughing when she fell down the hole and landed with a bump.
Mad Hatter does look weird. I'm excited to see the movie though. I'm a big fan of Burton
I think it's more of Johnny Depp getting top billing than Mad Hatter. The whole trailers looks kind of off to me though.
Yeah, I thought that new Batman series. Anyway, yeah, it looks like he is a main character. Odd.

I always liked how he and the March Hare had cameos in Disney's Bonkers...
Total Film this month has an article on Burton's version. I think I'll probably end up seeing it eventually.

its the unholy child of it & Ronald mcdonald! LULZ!
but besides the odd hatter design. im looking foward to this movie!
.... @ Hatter.
How would you like to meet THAT in a dark alley
Hah! And I was thinking the same thing, Legion. Its like if Ronald got possessed by Satan and sexually accosted Tim Burton's Joker. Who looks more sane by comparison.
