"US President Barack Obama's Kenyan half brother George was arrested on charges of possession of cannabis, police sources said Saturday.

George Obama was arrested on Friday with cannabis, known locally as bhang, and was placed in custody, a senior police officer told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"He was picked up in Nairobi's Huruma area with three other young men," the officer said, adding they were due to appear in court on Monday.

In his memoir, the new US president describes meeting his half brother as "a painful affair". George Obama was one of the few close relatives who did not attend the president's January 20 inauguration ceremony in Washington."

Legalise cannabis, dammit. Then you can put an age limit on it, tax it, create millions of new jobs and totally revitalise the economy. If you don't even have the freedom to experiment with your OWN consciousness, then really, what freedom DO you have?
In certain parts of Indonesia, you get DEATH for experimenting with your own consciousness and yet only a few years behind bars for KILLING someone else. So lemme get this straight: you get several years in prison for taking away someone else's life and you get your OWN life taken away from you by experimenting with the mental aspect of your life?
Surely I'm not the only one here who thinks that's F****D UP?!?!?!

There's plenty of ways to experiment with your own psyche without f**king yourself up with drugs.

Anything can f**k you up, especially if you're stupid enough. Drugs are no different in this regard. If used reasonably, responsibly and respectfully, certain psychoactive drugs will open sublime doors in your mind which would otherwise usually remain closed. In the end, that's why these kinds of drugs are illegal while cigarettes (a type of drug in and of itself!) remain legal despite killing millions of people each and every year. Hell, you can't even get high on a cigarette.

I would comment on the drugs thing but Rishi's over-the-top use of bold, italics and underlining has distracted me

...

oh yeah. I knew it won't be President Obama when I saw who posted it 😀 I was expecting it to be a prank though. Pretty suprised when I realised that a) he has a brother and b) he did get arrested so technically the title is correct.

lol

Well, I actuallly have to agree with Rishi. Many famous poets and writers have used drugs in the past (Kubla Khan by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. If you haven't read it, do so and you'll see how ****ed up he was.), for the purposes and intents of expanding their mind. I consider myself a novice poet, maybe amatuer at best (I have no concept of how to use fecking meter... I just don't bother with it, it infuriates me too much >_< ), but I haven't done that, but I'll admit, I have trouble coming up with ideas for poetic works, I only get inspiration once in a while for them, and it lasts like 10 minutes... (Did I mention all poems I've shown on the MoFo are... rough drafts? Enough self-advertising for today I guess...).

Three choices:

1) puking on the sidewalk (alcohol)
2) getting lung cancer (cigarettes)
3) sailing currently unexplored seas of the mind (the good s**t)

If I were given these three choices and had to choose one, I know without ANY doubt in my mind which one I'd choose. Hint: it sure as hell isn't 1 or 2. Dammit, I don't even LIKE the taste of ANY type of alcohol I've tried (mainly out of sheer curiosity only) and I've never had a cigarette before and never will.

Same boat, but that doesn't mean I'm gagging for some restricted drugs.

2) getting lung cancer (cigarettes)

Nice bias there. Remember saying that you have to use drugs "reasonably, responsibly and respectfully"? Well your examples for cigarettes and alcohol are definately not using them like that.

True - but whilst the human body can recover from alcohol damage if the intake's moderate, I don't think that there's a responsible way to use nicotine. The only way to protect yourself from the effects of that's to stop using it altogether and stay upwind of people who do.

I know, thanks! BTW, everyone is biased. Everyone. No-one can be truly objective.

Remember saying that you have to use drugs "reasonably, responsibly and respectfully"? Well your examples for cigarettes and alcohol are definately not using them like that.

Um, that might be because not everything CAN be used "reasonably, responsibly and respectfully" (and I never actually stated that it could).

You'll find alcohol certainly can be.

I don't think nicotine can be no, tbh. You're right on that one.

Well, Trudi was pointing out the hypocrocy(sp?) in doing so. While I agree it is rather difficult to be entire objective, it doesn't appear like you are giving any kind of effort whatsoever in doing so, and thus your credibility on the matter becomes compromised as a result.

And while the dangers of alchohol are quite obvious and don't need to be repeated, I remember hearing some time back that IN SMALL AMOUNTS, certain liquors can be beneficial to various organs (Don't remember which ones, and this was basically a "I saw this on the news" kind of thing, so if I'm totally wrong don't kill me :P).

Now, I don't plan on drinking myself, since my family is loaded with alchohol abuse... yeah, I'm sure its pretty obvious not going down that route would be a great idea =D

And while certain drugs can unlock various recesses of the mind, they are not simply wonder-drugs that make you creative instantly. There ARE going to be some major-side effects to doing so. Why, just ask many of the famous poets and writers that used drugs for creativity... oh wait... most of them are probably dead from drug abuse... sorry about that 😛

Irrelevant information alert!

It's not irrelevant. It's related to a world leader. That makes it somewhat relevant. Important? Probably not. Relevant? Yeah.

You are all on drugs right now. Oxygen is totally ravaging your body, aging you, and also giving you the ability to live. You also have lots of drugs inside you digesting your food and giving you emotions. I'm pretty much just calling any chemical a drug right now, get it? Hurray. Welcome to planet Earth where the differences between things actually aren't vast enough to permit such stupid language variance. Simply, some people discovered ability-giving chemicals not already forced into their body by the planet, so they help those chemicals along into their bodies.

By the way, everyone who does drugs started drugs because everyone does drugs. And by the way, everyone who fails fails because they are comfortable with failing and know how to enjoy it. People who have never tried drugs but insist on insisting things about them are a plague. Just overly chatty types who need a missionAND COPS I HATE COPS [/point degeneration and cop hate]
