Not a pretty thing, eh?
I have family in the middle of this. People that lived practically next door to me for the better part of a year. I don't usually get along with relatives but these were different. Heck I'm even worried about that bratty nephew of mine.
Their house is in the path of this firestorm. My sister got word they are evacuating along with pictures of the eerie smoke already loaming over them.
As the character of my universe would say. Art protect them.

Poor California. :< It seems there's at least one of these huge fires somewhere on the globe at least once a year.
And it's usually in Cali. Maybe they'll move back here.

the most i've heard of it in a recent newspaper was that it was the fault of celebraties and etc not letting people do controlled burning as it'd leave ash and etc in their hottubs and pools. >>; not sure how 100% accurate that new is.
still, i hope not too many houses are burnt by this, and that noone dies. ox;
There are a lot of factors involved.
One factor that sticks in my craw is, as Becca pointed out, environmental laws preventing the burning of old, dead trees that are nothing more than kindling. :/
If anyone recalls a forumer named Tails2K, he lives right around that area and he's fine, though many of his friends are being relocated, from what I understand.
**hugs to all families and friends in the middle of this** May their lives be restored sooner than later.

I'm in California and stuff, the only thing that reaches the place that I'm at is smoke. Really messed me up. Other than that, doesn't affect me much. They need to figure out a way to prevent fires like this. It's starting to become annoying. D:
I just got an e-mail regarding the meetings taking place in downtown San Diego. There's a Genetics conference this week, next week I'll be heading there for the International Retrovirology meeting and the week after will be the Society for Neuroscience meeting. Nothing is being canceled since the airport and hotels are working normally. Official word is that fires are located 20 miles from the downtown area. So animals in the zoo are safe. Over 1K acres have been burned/damaged and over 500 homes destroyes, 750 houses damaged. The winds are decreasing in speed and the fire is slowly being contained. Bush headed to S. Cali this morning to do who knows what. The Red Cross is sending volunteers with supplies and stuff, that included people from as far as Nebraska.
I was thinking of packing the fire-resistant blanket, my N-95 mask and a fire extinguisher but I guess that won't be necessary.
Am I the only onet hat keeps misreading this as "Cali Fries"?
Nay, you are not.
I could go for some Cali Fries, actually...
Wow. Two weeks with no activity. Nice to see you guys again. ^.^
First, my computer broke down, so I didn't have internet access. Then, I'm right in the middle of all this fire. I was pretty close to being evacuated too. Luckily the fire wasn't that close to my house; but, there was so much smoke and sutty air that made the air unbreathable for three whole days. My family and I ended up evacuating anyway to a close relative not affected by the fire. This was a pretty traumatizing experince for me, and I'm glad that my house turned out okay.

It's been repored that one person has died. 🙁 Yes. It's very sad.
You know who's fault these fires are? Al Gore's... Had it not been for his damned movie, California would have been underwater by now
Oh GAWD, don't you dare bait the cloudephants into my thread. I will whip you young man. And not the good kind either.
