OMG waaagh~! (earthquake in england!)
we just had a mini earthquake! o_o; my room was shaking! *flails!*
i know i wasn't dreaming, as i've spoken to several really freaked out flatmates. the entire building is now awake. ^^; not scared or anything, but a bit shocked, it's not often something invisible shakes your furnature!
either that, or we all just had a major polterguist attack!
i just experianced an earthquake, waaagh! o-o

Re: OMG waaagh~!
Sounds like earthquakes are quite infrequent over there. Here in California we use them to scare the tourists.
Anything fall over? Also, be prepared for aftershocks. |

Re: OMG waaagh~!
the area i'm in seems to most prone of all of england to get them (well, from how often it's mentioned in the news), birmingham got a much bigger one a few years ago too.
it was only for a few seconds, but enough to make the entire building shudder. it felt like someone had grabbed my bed and was trying to shake it. ^^; nothing fell over, but a few things rattled on my resk.
aftershocks tend to be milder, aren't they?
Edit: were these other earthquakes also in the midlands? or more widespread? have freinds who didn't notice it who don't live too far off.

Re: OMG waaagh~!
It was quite fun. I'm glad I didn't miss this one as I slept through the one in 2002. Seeing as I'm about 20 miles north of Birmingham, I got a good jolt from it.
Like I said, fun times. |

Re: OMG waaagh~!
hm, think i should shove this over to MFC? sounds like this has more to be discussed. ^^
i think i also slept thorugh that 2002 earthquake, or the shockwaves didn't hit wolves at the time.

Re: OMG waaagh~!
ahh, i love the animaniacs. ^^ why did it ever finish?
after convincing one flatmate that it's only in the case of major earthquakes that you're supposed to sit under the doorframe to your room, i'm off to bed again. ^^;

Re: OMG waaagh~!
It was pretty cool actually, it hit about 10 minutes after I woke up, and I was just sat in bed leaning against the wall, and then everything in my room makes stupid noises (Mostly cans so it was quite musical) and I'm rather plesently jostled by the wall.
Then we had a landing disscussion on it. |

Re: OMG waaagh~!
some of my flatmates right next doors in the kitchen didn't notice a thing.. it took several people from various parts of the building to convince them that we weren't just dreaming. ^^;
okay, just heard that the earthquake went as far as nottingham. o-o; not very local!

Quote:
People from across large parts of England have reported an earth tremor.
The BBC received calls from people in Yorkshire, the Midlands, Manchester, the Thames Valley, Norfolk, Preston, Newcastle and London about a "quake".
The tremor was felt at about 0100 GMT and lasted for nearly 10 seconds but it is unclear if it has caused any damage.
The US Geological Survey's website reported a quake of the magnitude of 4.7 and said the epicentre was 30 miles (50km) south of Kingston-upon-Hull.
Rafael Abareu from the US Geological Survey, which recorded the tremor, said it was an unusually large earthquake for this part of the world.
The West Midlands was hit by an earthquake in 2002 in the Dudley area that reached a magnitude of 5.0 and caused damage to homes.
And last year an earthquake measuring 4.3 hit parts of Kent, also causing widespread damage.
Jemma Harrison, 22, in Bury, Greater Manchester, said: "It was really bad. I was fast asleep and woke up and the room was shaking and there was a loud bang and alarms were going off."
Natasha Cavey, in Tipton in the West Midlands, said: "All my cupboard doors flew open and the whole house shook, it was unreal. I can't believe it."
David Somerset, 41, from Driffield near Beverley in East Yorkshire, said: "I have never felt one as strong as that one before. I was in my sitting room and the grandfather clock was rattling rather violently.
"It was very strong, I felt the whole room moving."

Heh, the guy in the room next to me on one side didn't feel anything, and was just confused as to why the wardrobe was rattling. He assumed we were moving furniture or something XD
Speaking of furniture, I almost wish I'd been downstairs so I could see how the shelves that we nicknamed the "Wacky Shack" faired. |

Re: OMG waaagh~! (earthquake in england!)
I am too metal to even notice anything less than a 6.66 on the richter scale, assuming of course I am at the epicentre. As I was not on this occasion, I understandably felt nothing.
(Okay really I'm just jealous. All my friends felt it why didn't I =() |
