Quote:
World renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti has died at his home in the northern Italian city of Modena.
The singer, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year, was 71.His charismatic performances - particularly alongside fellow tenors Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras - helped bring a new audience to opera.
Pavarotti had cancer surgery in July 2006 in New York, five months after his last performance. He had not made any public appearances since then.
He underwent five bouts of chemotherapy in the past year, and was admitted to hospital with a fever on 8 August. He was released two weeks later following diagnostic tests.
Fellow tenor Domingo said he had "always admired the God-given glory" of Pavarotti's voice, while Carreras called him "one of the most important tenors of all time".
The Vienna State Opera raised a black flag in mourning, while Modena said it would name its theatre after its famous son.
Sauce beeb.
....Damn, that was sudden.
RIP, though. He was a pretty good singer.
I wasn't very fond of his voice, but it's a shame that he's passed on. I know that many people enjoyed his singing.
RIP.
I'm old enough to remember watching the live debut of the Three Tenors. He probably made opera acceptable for my entire generation - and at least one, maybe two, either side of it.
And he seemed like a genuine man, as well. Someone who didn't see a camera crew and telling everyone and their dog what he was doing as an essential element of charity work.
RIP.
Durn, that sucks. I didn't know much of him, but his voice was mighty impressive. RIP.
So much for the return of the Three Tenors...
RIP Signore Pavarotti.
My mother actually went to the local library and rented a tape of the 3 tenors playing. I've never appreciated opera before, but man did I enjoy listening to it! Sad to hear such a great voice give us a farewell.
I just found out about this... I really enjoyed his singing. It's a great loss to the world but a gain up above.
