So, having got my laptop about a month back I noticed there was a VGA output. My TV accepts VGA input, so I finally got hold of a VGA cable and tried it out successfully. Sure, the resoliton rescaled but I was expecting that, the TV isn't up to the resolution my Lappy is. However, the laptop only really likes sticking with mirroring what's going on on it's monitor - whenever i try to adjust it so it outputs either an extended desktop or to output only onto the TV, the laptop begins to change this setting then appears to crash it - both screens go black and the laptop shows no indications of activity at all. Does anyone else use dual monitor setups ever? Is such activity the norm?
For the record, I'm running on Vista Home Premium (i know i know) with a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2 gigs of RAM and an NVIDIA 8600M GT 256MB graphics card.
When I have the TV hooked up, Windows makes that sound to say that I've hooked up another monitor, but when I click the Identify Monitors button in the control panel, both output 1, and the NVIDIA control panel sees only the laptop monitor.
I think the issue may be in the television, perhaps it's just some flaw in the vga input. If it's not the television it's vista.
