That's probably the only thing that Acrio changed that I fully approve of.  There's that silver lining.  However, it is still available in the Forum Jump.  Or you can use this link: http://sonichqcommunity.yuku.com/forums/72

So I guess it is still there.  Oh well, maybe next time.

Whilst the Marble Garden has historically been an incredibly handy and useful forum and one of the best parts of the MoFo, it hasn't been anywhere near as good as it was since I came back almost two years ago.

We've already prevented it from dying with dignity, can we just let it die in peace?

I was never that keen on us having a debate forum in the first place, even if it was supposed to be skewed towards "social issues". To me, it implied that MFC wasn't for actually discussing things in (just as some people seem to think that having the SPA means that you can't be silly in MFC, either) - which was never the case.

That was always my assumption - silliness would be moved to SPA, discussions would be moved to Marble Gardens.  Chit-chat type stuff would stay in MFC, provided it wasn't too fluffy and / or pointless, in which case it was probably SPA material.

Let's face the facts ladies and gents, the debate forum, just like the SPA was destroyed by the great evil known as Rishi. His consistent BS topics in both forums eventually lead to them losing what originally made them fun. SPA has recovered (slightly) from this but Marble Garden was not as lucky.

I stopped using the marble garden because I came off as annoying and pretentious and a know-it-all. Dear god I was an awful poster back when I used it.

What Sam said.  As well as everyone else.

Frankly, I liked Marble Garden better when it was named the Ladies Lounge.  It was so hilarious that people thought it was a girls only forum, and we had some of the best frank discussions there, or I thought so at least.

Come to think of it, it is because Marble Garden became a place where there was the pressure of having to debate and prove your points and back yourself up with evidence, that I didn't find it any fun to post there anymore.  Ladies Lounge didn't have that pressure, which is probably why I liked it better.

I liked the Marble Garden, too, SF.

I always thought it was for the really really deep, serious stuff that might be considered sensitive topics that would probably get people up in arms. So I thought that's why it was a seperate forum... to keep possible Flame Wars and lengthy, not-so-fun (for some people) debates off of the MFC.

Not that that's a bad thing. I mean, I'd post there if I had an opinion I wanted to air or if I felt like arguing. ('Tis a weird impulse to want to argue...)
Some people like having those kinds of war with words... and I'm one of them, deping on the subject or my mood.

I don't think I posted there too much because there weren't too many topics I was interested in participating in and because of the lack of activity.

I was a tool and an idiot back when I used Marble Garden, so, yeah.

MFC needs more discussions anyway.

ummm hukos that's how debates work.... you shouldnt judge yourself for what you said or behaved in debates, we all turn rough and mean in thoseXD the idea is to shake hands at the end and go at another debate.
i think the thing that bothers people about debates is the one with the weak points ends up looking dumb but that's the point of it enlighting others and sharing ideas. i know sam has a point but people are probably scared of getting into debates so knowing where it is they kept away if i start debates on the mobius forum it might not go well. i dont know -___- i feel like the mobius forum is mainly a news forum.

and CT <hugs> i'm glad you like debates too and i agree with you completely. its a shame we didnt enjoy debating together. but we might just start topics on the mobuis forum sometime and go from there.

Isn't there enough random drama on the Mofo without having a board devoted to it? 😛

I'll have to say no as well.

Granted, the debaters here were far, far more tolerant of beliefs that ran opposite of theirs compared to other forums I've been at, but it just doesn't seem right to have a forum specifically for debating.

I'll second Mobius's statement that the MoFo has enough drama as it is.

You have to understand that part of the reason Marble Garden came into existence was when there were literally over a hundred different people posting daily (on a slow day), the "serious" debating annoyed some people to cause the need for some separation. All the stuff in Marble Garden does technically belong in here. The lack of people posting in it means it isn't currently necessary either.

That used to be the problem - I acquired a rep for being no fun and a bit of a rules lawyer (not all of the time, but most of it), as well as catching a lot of backlash when implementing rules that various people didn't like.

Jin'll back me up on this.

She was only unpopular with the crowd that thinks they were cool for maintaining a peanut gallery whenever someone was called out for breaking rules.  For those who know the score, Sam is rightfully the Queen of the Mobius Forum.

It is unfortunate that there have been times when those whose allegiance to the throne were outnumbered by those in said gallery.  But the times have been a-changin' again!

<_< >_> Welp, as someone who doesn't know you that well...

Your manner when posting has always come off as aloof, unfriendly and a tad dry. I'm pretty sure that's a woefully inaccurate assessment of your personality, but I can't quite shake that impression and I suppose most other people couldn't either.

I've been referred to as intimidating before: when people actually start talking to me via messenger they usually something to the tune of "you're actually nothing like what I thought you were". I got that a lot not too long ago.

You have no clue how true that is.

Let's not forget that if you don't add "imo" to something you're speaking in objective terms automatically, and you're never referring to an opinion of yours.

i thought that way, its more caues i'm used to people being mean to me and i was very sensitive from everything going on in my life so i took it really bad ... its just some people cant stand strong characters and feel so beating towards them.. i miss judged her i'll admit that and it took me a long time to accept her personalitiy but in the end she's the better person.  having a strong character is useful and a sign of sucess.

so not just people that read her wrong will be offensive towards her but even people that fear her strong character like i did. in the end sam you got a strong personality and a popular one so just shake off the past and focus on having fun now. and please please post a lot .. and better yet be a pony, be the princss she suits you. XD someone was saying that on the chat today. i think they're right.

With the lot we've had here over the years, she has to have a strong personality in order to moderate everyone. She'd have gone mad years ago if not.

I guess that's just the thing.  To me, there's a difference between, say, having a debate over hot-button issues, and a debate about who would win in a given match-up of superheroes (leaving Squirrel Girl out because she would win in all cases, of course).  The first one tends to get very heated because people will feel there is only one "right" answer, and it's an argument - and arguments by their very nature aren't typically fun for anyone involved and generally don't change people's minds.

But discussing the pros and cons of which fictional character would win against another fictional character in a fight, as an example of a debate I would say is truly fun, doesn't usually have the same blistering heat of indignation that RL hot-button issues do.  Batman vs. Dr. Doom?  The Blue Beetle vs. Tergonaut?  Deadpool vs. Pinkie Pie?  We may come up with reasons, make them up, base judgment on the games or shows or comics they show up in, but it's all in good fun and usually doesn't harm anyone in the process.

Hail to the Queen, baby. *shades* |3
