As for how they intend to celebrate outside of the strip, just read up on this. But yeah, they're intending to release a bunch of books, some clothes, a new direct-to-DVD movie, and a new cartoon show with all cgi and apparently no U.S. Acres.

I can't read Garfield anymore without imagining what it would be like if Jon is just talking to himself with no thought bubbles over Garfield's head. Then it makes me laugh because of that.

That would be quite epic if someone went to the trouble to cgi out garfield (and devoice if needed) from the entire film the uploaded it.
