...and hte mouse didn't move. Moved the mouse back and forth, but it stayed in the center of the screen. I use a wireless mouse from Logitech (Logitech Cordless Click! Plus, optical wireless mouse), and it's lasted longer than my computer. The batteries are fresh. So I unplug it from the PS/@ port, plug it back in ,still nothing. I unplug it and take off the USB-to-PS/2 adapter, and use a USB slot, and it works fine. So I go into Chat...to realize my keyboard isn't working either. This is a Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard, which has also lasted longer than this computer. Also fresh batteries - but no USB port - and it simply wouldn't type. The device settings recognised it, and recognised when I unplugged it and plugged in the cheap wired keyboard that came with the computer - and automatically adjusted for that, which is normal. That keyboard would not type either. With the wireless keyboard (the reciever has three lights for function, caps, and number lock), all of the lock lights were lit and didn't respond when I pressed the keys, and with the wired keyboard, all of them were off and I couldn't turn them on.

At this point, I figured the PS/2 ports simply failed - It's a budget eMachines POS (eMachines T3410). Cost $300 and came with a 15" LCD monitor and a printer. - and used my mouse in the USB slot to check the drivers, devices ettings, all of which were normal, uncorrupted, and claimed to be operating normally.

So I turn my computer off, restart it, and the keyboard works fine. In the PS/2 slot. But I had the keyboard that came with the computer plugged in, so I turned it off again, swapped keyboards for the wireless one, and turned it on - And it worked, but only after a minute. I haven't had trouble since. I'm typing this with my wireless keyboard plugged into the PS/2 slot, and my mouse is in its' PS/2 slot as well, because I only have five USB slots and most are taken.

Any ideas what happened? Will I wake up tomorrow to find the same problem? I haven't had any noticable issues with my keyboard or mouse before today (was around noon IIRC, I woke up hours earlier but was just reading a novel in bed, so that's when I got on the computer), and will a simple unplug and replug and restart work again?

If not, I called Dad an told him to buy a cheap USB keyboard, because my USB slots seem to be working for the moment. Will that work, if nothing else?

Hmmm Ive had something similar happen to me (though reading through your post, it doesnt look like its quite the exact same thing). Every now and then, when I turn on my comp (or sometimes just restart it, I think), Ill suddenly find that my mouse and keyboard dont work. In general, they normally work just fine after turning on/restarting the comp. However, this "failure" (for lack of a better term right now) has happened enough times for me to just consider it a relatively normal occurrence.

What I have is a mouse and keyboard (both non-wireless, unlike yours) hooked up via a keyboard/mouse PS/2 to USB adapter, which is itself plugged into a USB hub, which in turn is plugged into a USB slot on my laptop. Whenever these sudden failures of the mouse and keyboard happen, I just unplug the PS/2 to USB adapter from the USB hub, plug it back in, and everything ends up working fine after that, as far as I can tell. So far this has worked, and I overall dont really mind it happening every now and then as it does, as long as this method of fixing it continues to work and its not actually some sort of problem that should be fixed some other way.

So perhaps what you experienced was something similar to that (ex: perhaps it took your wireless keyboard a minute to work again because it had to re-recognize the wireless feature of itjust guessing here, though, since Ive never owned a wireless mouse/keyboard, and am overall quite unfamiliar with them). Anyway, good luck, and hopefully everything ends up working out okay!

Hm. Well, I have a wired mouse and keyboard, and I've never had them fail yet. More than likely, it has something to do with the wireless functionality. If you keep having problems, then yeah, I'd get a cheap USB keyboard.

Dad couldn't find a USB keyboard. However, I found one in about five minutes at Walmart. $30 USB keyboard, backlighted, 104-key. It looks pretty sweet, but it's wired, so it's a backup (I usually have my keyboard in my lap).

It's a Saitek Eclipse, I'd heard their keyboards were of pretty good quality, and the backlight looks pretty cool.

YOU ARE A VICTIM OF LULZ-KILLERS.

Report this problem to Fox 11 and everything will be fine.
