Honestly, I've never done it before, but a friend of mine on another forum dragged me into it, and I've seen this announcement get posted up here before, so I figured, why not? XD

I already have my idea planned out, got a lot of free time, just gotta have the motivation to get 2k words a day! @_@

Just wondering who else is getting in on this, if any.

Links to participating MoFo novels (in alphabetical order)
Craig Bayfield - "Grief"
"
Rapidfire - "School Daze I"
Shadowed Spirit Sage - "Confessions of a Combat Waitress"
SilverShadow - "Beyond The Sky"

I have theoretical plans to get to it. However, it will be an uphill task this year, for my docket also includes two senior theses. Reasonably plowing through the word count per day will be...an interesting prospect, to say the least. At least I have my ideas prepared.

I think, just as Craig did last year, it'd be encouraging for those of us participating to put up our works-in-progress in Carny Isle.

Eh, I'm not too confident in my skills as a writer, this is a mostly "for-fun" thing for me. Only thing I post there would be my own poetry (Speaking of that, I'm still working on that epic poem.....). Still, be awesome to do this alongside other MoFo'ers.

I will be doing it again, as always.

I have successfully completed it six times. I know I say this every year, but this time I really think I might not be able to make it. Schoolwork is really intense this year.

I think anyone can do this. It just takes motivation, fortitude, and a certain recklessness.

I've always wanted to try it (might motivate me to actually finish a story for once), but between school, work, and a general writer's block I've had all year, I don't think there's time.

Kind of already in the middle of writing one...and I can't really work on two so perhaps I'll...try to finish it in November?

It's time, time, time, time, time... to write a book. To write a book.
Gotta write the book on time!
If you don't, you're gonna get in trouble!
Time, time, time, time, to write a book--- ...write a book.

I don't wanna do it again. I don't wanna do it aga--- *looks at plot outline and the loose continuity crossover with Tricia's project*

DANG IT. NOT AGAIN! (Won my first two years, this will be my third)

Well, technically all you need is 2k words a day to beat it, I can get that in a couple of hours of typing (Maybe less depending on how inspired I am).

Oh well, I'll be trying to get this done. I'm sure it would be way more fun with the lot of us doing it =D

Technically you could just write 50k words of gibberish and you would have passed, it just wouldn't be any good

I'm going for it, this will be my first attempt and as such will probably suck. But, I'm hopeful that I'll finish.

And free time, and inspiration, and imagination, and a certain talent for writing...

"Free Time" isn't so hard to come by. Just stop doing some things you usually do. Tell friends you can't hang out, play video games less frequently, write during your lunch time, get up an hour earlier than usual, watch less TV or fewer movies, spend a bit less time at this forum, or whatever. Every day you have to write 1667 words, which should take you somewhere between one and three hours. And you can do it in short bursts, just little bits at a time, or clear a block of space and do it then. I guarantee the time is there if you look for it.

As far as inspiration and talent, those don't mean as much as people think they do. Granted, they can be a help, but getting the job done is more down to hard work. And as far as imagination is concerned, that's something everyone has but not everyone is accustomed to using. Which is one of the great things about NaNoWriMo: it puts you in touch with that creative part of yourself. But as I said, it takes hard work.

Now now, I'm sure you're downplaying how good you can possibly be. In any event, I suggested displaying our works in Carny Isle because, at least from my vantage point, reading and comparing others' material can be a striking source of inspiration. Not plagiarism, obviously, but there may be a particular turn of phrase in someone else's work that, once read, sticks in the mind and generates images that make for inspired literature.

I wholeheartedly agree with posting each novel in Carnival Island.

Of course, if you genuinely don't want to, that's perfectly fine. But feeling self-conscious about your writing compared to other people is not a valid excuse in my opinion :3 I don't claim to be a writer at all, neither does Craig, but he and I are both planning on posting our progress. Why? Because there are few motivators stronger than knowing someone out there might actually be reading the words you spent hours spewing out into a Word document, and maybe if we're lucky, someone will actually go out of their way to say some kind things about our hard work.

And I will definitely say kind words to anyone who posts. 🙂

So, does anybody have a title, plot, characters, or anything in between yet?

I have a title, characters, and idea of whither the story is going to go. It doesn't, per se, have a plot, though. Rather, it's a little like a sitcom narrative, if I had to give it some kind of classification. If it isn't clear, you'll see once I get into it. I don't want to give anything serious away yet, so I'll leave it at that for the time being.

Oh yeah, should anybody be possessed by some unruly, burning passion to see whatever it is I'm up to on a quotidian basis, my NaNoWriMo username is Rapidfire, so you can become my friend and meticulously scrutinise my literary movements.

I've got an set beginning and a set ending, some characters and a little bit of a plot. I'd say that's good enough to work on. EDIT: Also if you want to track my progress my username is Jesse Swanson.

I think I might just start writing with no actual plot in mind. I've never done that with stories before, but it might be fun to just meander around and see if I can form a coherent plot out of nothing.

I've added both Rapid and Swanson, and if you feel inclined to add me back, my username is my standard, Shadowednavi.

Also, the title of my novel this year is "Confessions of a Combat Waitress". I have several things I want to incorporate, and I'm still not sure what kind of tone I want it to take, but we shall soon see :3

Ha, sounds pretty interesting.
I've never done this, but I'm seriously considering it this year. I'll decide by tomorrow. I definitely have the time, so that's not much of a factor; I just don't have a good idea of what to write about.

I can't even write 100 words per day right now
Supposed to be writing my 25 page grant for my comprehensive examination and it's not happening... I blame GaiaOnline and fanfiction.net ... also long phone conversations and photoshoots oh and PhotoShop

Ok, so I get ADD when I sit down to write hence I will be looking forward to reading everyone's works on Carni Isle

Well i'm doing it again for the 4th time, even though i never finish because i am the king of laziness, but somebody has to lose so i'll be there for that at least. I'd be happy to even get 20k before i get distracted by

Already just past the 1600 word mark by a good 300 words. Still got more to go, but I wanna pace myself and not write too much in one day.

My SN over there is Rufus_Falcon btw. That's also a big hint to anyone familiar with my RPing as to what the novel is about.

Will likely post up what I have so far in Carni Isle.

I got about my first 2k done this morning (Setting aside time in the morning to do it, I have free time with unemployment and all >.>), but I can honestly say I'm not all that pleased with it............

I can post it if anyone wants to see it, but it was mostly an attempt to fluff up words so I could get to that 2k mark......

I've got about 200 handwritten in an outline that I managed to finish while at work. Craig and I are about to head out to a Denny's for dinner and CONSTANT NANO.

Also, Hukos - THAT'S THE POINT! 😀 😀 😀 If you don't like it, that's totally okay! That's what editing's for, and you can save that till December. I would love for you to post it, and when I get the chance, I'll give it a read.

....in other news, I did a Very Bad Thing and started playing Shining Force II this morning. It is one of my favorite games of all time and I haven't played it in close to ten years.

.....

@_____@

EDIT: 1,688/50,000. Kind of pathetic, but considering it's all rather dry exposition, I guess it's not bad. Compared to Craig, though - who has nearly double mine - I seriously need to catch up. XD

Yeah, so I have 374 words written, I'll probably do double tomorrow to cover for it, but it looks like I'm off to an awesome start.

I had 2k in my first day, so I guess that's good. I'll work on it tomorrow again in the morning, even though I'm not liking where my story is going......

My post count for the day? Zero, huzzah! To be fair, I spent most of the day researching and writing about the most banal opinions ever written for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, so my urge to write was mercilessly murdered by that. Tomorrow, though, I'll begin in earnest.

While I'll never reproduce the crazy amount of production I used to do a few years back where I would churn out 9 pages (single spaced) of story a day, the little scroll bar on the document page is getting smaller a lot quicker than before so I am making decent progress, lol.

Well, I'm probably not going to get to 2000 today either, but we'll see how many pages I can get done when I have an entire day to do it.

I'm already past 4k, and though I wasn't happy with day 1, I rather liked my efforts in day 2

I managed to catch up and break 4k today - still trailing a bit behind everyone else, but that's still about 2,500 in a day, which is much better than yesterday. This is excellent competition, I like it! XD And the novels I've read so far have all been rather awesome. Here's hoping we continue with this kind of start, as I'd hate to see any of these stories die.

Also, once I'm done with this, I'll edit the first post to have links to all posted novels. I hope you don't mind, Hukos? ^^;

So I checked my writing buddy stats and noticed that a few people haven't updated their word counts in awhile. If you're going by the 1,667 per day, you should be at 18,339 or something along those lines.

So far, me and Craig are both above that line with 20k words, and Bryan's coming up really close (19,180 if I remember correctly - awesome!)

How are all you doing? 😀 I'm gonna use this weekend to catch up reading and actually make some freaking comments for a change, like I said I was going to.

As you can probably judge from my stats, I'm being quite erratic in my updates. Again, life keeps getting in the way; I could go on and on about that (such as being in a car that was front-ended quite rudely the other day, which even today has had my heart physically stressed). Nevertheless, I remain determined to make it on time. More immediate deadlines from professors and peers being relentlessly intrusive have contributed to my delinquency as a writer.

Meh, I was getting bored with my story, stopped with it. Sure, I could have churned out 2k every day like I planned to but writing the story is just a chore more than anything, rather than it being fun which NaNo is supposed to be. So, maybe next year I suppose. I'm just dreadfully bored with my own story

Well, that's all she wrote.

I have over fifty thousand words by this point, and somehow I'm still not done. I guess that's close enough to victory for me, but I suspect I could easily get to fifty-five thousand with as many scenes as I believe I still have to go.

Anyone else terribly relieved at having crossed the finish line?
