What does religion have to do with this? A nutcase doesn't have to be religious to believe that this thing will blow us up or implode us or whatever.
But yeah, I agree with Cinder - the joke's been old for a while now, and it's silly to worry about it if anyone is actually serious about it.
However, I think this thread is still useful for keeping us updated on the progress of the LHC, as well as on the useful staff additions at the facility to make sure that we're kept safe from rampaging monsters from another dimension. Now we just need to get the Stargate people onto this and I think we'll be set.

What does religion have to do with this? Quite a lot, it seems. Yeah yeah, I already know that a nutcase doesn't necessarily have to be religious in order to believe that the LHC will cause worldwide doom. However, MOST of the negative reactions toward the LHC HAVE actually been by nutcases of the religious variety (I'm lookin' at YOU, fundamentalist Christians!). We're all gonna die anyway, so chill the furk out dudes.

whoa there son. Best settle down.
Where are these negative reactions from these "religious nutcases"? Like, actually links, please.
Also, I assume most religious peoples would figure God wouldn't let something horribly bad happen to us >>

Links? Sure. Here are a few links which adequately describe the dreary religious doomsday fanaticism I'm referring to:
Large Hadron Collider: 10 other dates when the world failed to end
Those pages were boring. Very boring.
Those pages were boring. Very boring.
Good! Then my job here is done!
Well, it was good fun while it lasted. Thank goodness nothing happened after all... yet.
He he, just joking. Funny how art imitates life, doesn't it? Anyway, I'll leave this out there for anyone who didn't see it a while back, just for kicks.
He knew about it all this time and tried to warn us!!!
GUYS CALM DOWN BREEN WILL SAVE US FROM OUR NEW MERCIFUL ALIEN OVERLORDS.
I love how there are "how the world failed to end" articles about the test laser. Perhaps we should keep the fact that the first particle collision doesn't take place until October 21st all hush hush. That way, all the conspiracy theorists and armagedonists will keep their mouths shut while the scientific community smash expectations and go further with particle physics than mankind could ever dream.
PS: I am genuinely fascinated by the outcomes of this and not because of stupid video games or fear mongering. The idea of a "man made big bang" is freaking fascinating as heck to me.
Don't worry people.
Gordon Freeman is there to make sure nothing bad happens.
And just in case things go bad, Reddits has send him a special package.
Thank God. No experiment that Gordon Freeman has been present at has ever gone horribly wrong. I stand by my resonance cascade scenario statement. Buy your crowbars while you still can.
o.O You all should read Cosm. Cosm is basically the best -case scenario outcome for this.
Note: Cosm came out 11 years ago. That's how long I've been waiting for this to occur in real life.

assistant: Professor! the ominousosity meter on the LHC is off the charts! the public is worried! what should we do?
professor: Well, we'll rename it halo. OH! and we'll add a nice tense waiting period for its firing!
assistant: But how will that help?
professor: *puts a hells reject decal on the side* what was that?
assistant: ...
the only way this could be better is if the umbrella corporation took over the project
Right now I'd WELCOME the Umbrella corp...they were my fave part about Resident Evil, after all. XDD
Still - I'd like to join the mass hysteria of it's fully operational firing, but sadly...I'm grounded in 'This is no longer news, and the world will not end' camp now! 😛
I'm bitter about my thread being locked... and now I want this thread to BURN.
